A number of grant deadlines, grant events, and business awards are below.

1. Agriculture

AgriCompetitiveness Program: applicant can receive maximum of $1 million per year. Intake period ends September 30, 2022 or until funding has been fully committed.

Receive a maximum of 75% AAFC contribution through AgriAssurance Program: National Industry Association Component. Deadline: September 30, 2022.

On-Farm Climate Action Fund (OFCAF): Alberta farmers and ranchers can apply for up to $75,000 in funding. Application intake is now open until March 2024.

Emerging Opportunities program: Maximum grant funding provided by this program is $500,000 per fiscal year. Apply now!

CAAIN Competition for the Smart Farms Program dedicates up to $5 Million to supports physical platform to showcase the integration and application of new technologies in agriculture.

2. Arts and Culture

Literary Individual Project Funding provides up to $15,000  funding for a specific literary arts project. Deadline: September 1, 2022.

Access to Heritage — Museums Assistance Program: provides funding to heritage organizations for travelling exhibitions in Canada. Deadline: November 1, 2022.

Indigenous Heritage — Museums Assistance Program (MAP) provides funding for projects related to the preservation, management, and presentation of Indigenous cultural heritage in Canada. Deadline: November 1, 2022.

Collections Management — Museums Assistance Program (MAP) provides funding for projects to improve knowledge, skills and practices related to key museum functions. Deadline: November 1, 2022.

Sector Innovation and Development component of Supporting Artistic Practice funds up to $50 000 per year to support the growth and improvement in the arts sector. Next deadline for Project Component is November 9, 2022.

You may request up to $30,000 through Invent & Adapt to addressing the needs of Edmonton’s various arts network and disciplinary capacities. Application is ongoing.

Marketing and Promotion for Non-FACTOR-Funded Sound Recordings: Application has rolling deadlines. Learn more:

3. COVID

Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program: COVID-19 Resilience stream: The maximum size of projects under the stream is set at $10M total eligible costs.

The Jobs and Growth Fund provides funding to businesses and organizations to help create jobs and position local economies for long-term growth. Learn more.

The Tourism Relief Fund (TRF) is a $500-million national program to support the tourism sector in Canada.

Work-Sharing Program: special measures for employers affected by the downturn in business related to COVID-19 effective March 15, 2020 to September 24, 2022.

Indigenous Community Business Fund: access funding to support their community-owned businesses whose revenues have been affected by COVID-19.

The Digital Economy Program helps small businesses take their businesses online.

The Aerospace Regional Recovery Initiative (ARRI) is a national program that will provide $250 million over three years to help the Canadian aerospace sector.

Arts Presentation Fund for COVID Recovery: the City of Edmonton allocated funds for artists to present and perform their work. Application is still ongoing.

The Major Festivals and Events Support Initiative (MFESI) is a two-year, $200-million national fund to help major Canadian festivals survive and adapt to the pandemic.

4. Employment | Varies

Are you a dynamic youth wanting to demonstrate leadership and commitment to your community? Apply to Youth Innovation Component of the Enabling Accessibility Fund. Deadline: October 17, 2022.

Science Horizons Youth Internship Program: provides wage subsidies up to $25,000.

TECHNATION’s Career Ready program provides up to maximum of $7000.00 wage subsidy. Deadline: Ongoing.

Explore job funding opportunities through Eco Canada. Over $50 million in funding for youth employment has been distributed.

NRC IRAP provides financial assistance to companies so they can hire young talent to contribute to their innovation needs. Application is ongoing.

Apprenticeship Incentive Grant for Women helps you pay for expenses while you train as an apprentice in a Designated Red Seal Trade. Check here.

5. Environment/CleanTech

Application for Zero Emission Vehicle Awareness Initiative is now open. Deadline: August 18, 2022.

Up to $20 million is available for Advancing Hydrogen — Competition One. Deadline: September 6, 2022.

Toward net-zero homes and communities program supports creative energy efficiency initiatives for the Canadian residential sector Deadline: September 7, 2022.

ERA is seeking innovative CCUS technologies: Total funds available is $19 million. Deadline: September 12, 2022.

Energy Innovation Program – Carbon capture, utilization and storage RD&D Call: up to $50 million in support for FEED studies for large-scale CCUS facilities. Deadline to submit Expression of Interest: October 3, 2022.

Up to a maximum of $50,000 incentives available through the  Incentives for Medium- Heavy-duty Zero-Emission Vehicles (iMHZEV) Program. Learn more.

6. Export

Alberta Export Expansion Program: up to 75% funding to eligble costs in the promotion of Alberta exports. Application is now open.

Europe – Eurostars call for proposals: maximum funding possible is $500,000 CAD. Registration Deadline: August 18, 2022 (for non-IRAP. For IRAP clients:  September 15, 2022).

CanExport Community Investments (CECI): will be accepting new applications for the 2023 call for proposal in September – October 2022.

CanExport Associations: 2023-2024 application process will open in November 2022. Stay tuned!

7. Indigenous

Aboriginal Business Investment Fund: provides up to $500,000 to support economic development projects. Deadline: September 30, 2022.

First Nations Enhanced Education Infrastructure Fund: provides funding to build new schools, renovate and expand existing facilities, and operate and maintain existing education infrastructure.  Deadline: September 30.

First Nations Environmental Contaminants Program: supports communities in identifying, investigating and characterizing the impact of exposure to environmental hazards. Deadline: October 21, 2022.

The Reserve Land and Environmental Management Program provides funding to First Nations to develop capacity to manage reserve land, resources and environment. Application is ongoing.

Assisted Living Program provides funds to identified service providers to help provide non-medical, social support services to people living on-reserve with chronic illness or disability.

The Tribal Council Funding program provides core operational funding to tribal councils to deliver programs and services to their member First Nations and to support their capacity development.

8. Municipalities

Revitalization Extensive Project Fund (REPF) offering the funding between $20,001 and $250,000. Next intake: September 15 to October 13.

Funding is available for municipalities to host Alberta Day events for their communities on Sept. 3. Funding up to  $10,000.

The Rent Supplement Program provides a subsidy to help make rental accommodation more affordable for individuals and families. Application is a first come, first served.

Capital project: GHG impact retrofit. Federation of Canadian Municipalities will award up to $5 million per project.

The Federal Community Housing Initiative (FCHI) is a $618.2 million fund to support federally administered community housing projects. Learn more.

Municipalities for Climate Innovation Program: Build sustainable and reliable services in your community while you tackle climate change and its effects.

Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) program:  apply for a funding partnership to support preventive social service programs in communities. Up to 80% eligible cost will be funded.

9. Non-Profit

Child care – Space Creation Grant: A grant for non-profit groups interested in creating new child care spaces or starting new child care programs. Applications are being accepted.

Child care subsidy: Subsidies are available to offset the cost of child care for eligible families.

Outreach Initiative grants and contributions program: support your organization’s science- or innovation-based initiatives or projects.

The Youth Justice Fund is currently accepting new proposals for both multi-year and short term pilot projects starting between April 1, 2023 and March 31, 2025. Check here.

Enhanced Capacity Advancement Program: strengthen and advance your organization’s capacity in the non-profit/ voluntary sector. Next multi-year funding cycle intake is anticipated for the fall of 2022.

10. Post Secondary | Varies

Collaborative Research and Training Experience (CREATE) program: program supports the training and mentoring of teams of highly qualified students and postdoctoral fellows for a maximum of $1.65M over six years. Deadline: September 22, 2022.

The Small Institution Fund (SIF) fund to a maximum of $400,000 or $800,000. Next deadline: October 15, 2022.

Alliance Consortia Quantum grants: supporting coordinated quantum research and innovation with $500,000 to $1 million funding per year. Deadline: October 21, 2022.

Alliance Missions: Anthropogenic greenhouse gas research: provide support up to $500,000 per year. Deadline: LoI -September 15, 2022; Full application – November 8, 2022.

Gain instant access to hundreds of new internships and exciting research projects through Mitacs. A stipend starting at $10,000 per four-month period is available.

Major Innovation Fund: up to $30M over 4 years available funding. Applications accepted until November 15, 2022.

11. Technology | Varies

NRC is seeking potential therapeutics to treat respiratory disease by targeting viral infection, replication and/or address associated co-morbidities. Deadline: August 29, 2022.

Plastics challenge: Mitigating the release of microplastics from tire wear. Deadline: August 31, 2022.

The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) is seeking a technology, procedure or technique that provides the means to detect concussions. Deadline: September 12, 2022.

Ideation Fund NRC researchers to explore transformative research ideas in collaboration with external partners such as academic institutions and small and medium-sized enterprises.

Through the $19 million ACT4 Call, ERA is seeking innovative CCUS technologies with strong potential for commercialization in Alberta. Deadline: September 12, 2022.

Energy Innovation Program – Carbon capture, utilization and storage RD&D Call: supports activities to down the cost and enhance performance of capture technologies. Deadline: October 3, 2022.

Alberta Digital Traction is a funding program of up to $50,000 for SMEs that have software development at the core of one or more of their products and/or services.

Alberta Innovates’ Commercialization Associate provides up to  $105,000 funding per year.

Strategic Innovation Fund supports activities that accelerate technology transfer and commercialization of innovative products, process and services.

14. Government Update

Alberta’s government is providing the opportunity to develop government-owned highway safety rest areas along major highways. Interested parties have until late December to submit a proposal.

Alberta Innovates has removed almost 60 per cent of unnecessary regulatory requirements to support businesses and entrepreneurs.

Funding of $5.2 million is being provided to the Association of Early Childhood Educators of Alberta (AECEA) and the Alberta Resource Centre for Quality Enhancement (ARCQE).

Albertans can learn about what the future of provincial policing may look like through a new website.

The Ministry of Culture and Status of Women recently awarded 104 grants to organizations across the province to host Alberta Culture Days events.

Temporary rent assistance is expanding to more than 80 communities across Alberta.

BioTalent Canada awards 2022 Catalyst Award for Top New Hire.
