Grants

A number of grant deadlines, grant events, and business awards are below.

1. Agriculture

Nuffield Canada is now accepting applications with $15,000 scholarship funding available. Deadline: June 30, 2022.

Genome Canada is launching a new Climate Action Genomics Initiative with approximately $30 million available funding. Deadlines: LOI- Sept. 2022; Application – Jan. 2023.

The Canadian Agri-Food Automation & Intelligence Network (CAAIN) launched a $5M call for funding focused exclusively on encouraging the expansion of a national network of smart farms.

AgriCommunication Program: Applicants may apply for funding up to 70% of total eligible costs. Application is ongoing until ongoing basis until September 30, 2023.

Women who lead farms, work on the farm and otherwise contribute to the success of the farm are encouraged to participate in our national survey. Get a chance to win $500!

2. Arts and Culture

Organization Recovery Fund: The total funding available is $500,000. Applications open in May 9 until June 13, 2022.

Canada Arts Training Fund: funds up to a maximum of $6,000,000 per fiscal year. Deadline: June 30, 2022.

Artist Development Microgrant: total pool of funding available through this program has been increased to $400,000. Deadline: July 4, 2022.

Alberta Made Production Grant: covers 25% of eligible Alberta production costs to a maximum of $125,000. Next application window: July 2 to 16.

Summer School Project Funding: up to 40% of eligible expenses will be covered. Deadline: July 15, 2022.

Visual Arts and New Media Individual Project: provides up to $15,000. Deadline: September 1, 2022.

Media Arts Equipment Acquisition Fund: valued up to $30, 000 grant. Deadline: November 16, 2022.

Invent & Adapt 2022: Organizations may request up to $30,000. Application is ongoing.

3. COVID

COVID-19 rent and property expense support for businesses: you may be eligible for a subsidy to cover part of your commercial rent or property expenses. Next deadline: June 16, 2022.

COVID-19 wage and hiring support for businesses: enable you to re-hire workers, help prevent further job losses, and ease your business back into normal operations. Next deadline: June 16, 2022.

U.S. Mission to Canada Funding Opportunities: Combatting COVID-19 Grant Program with up to $100,00 grant available. Deadline: July 6, 2022.

The Tourism Relief Fund (TRF) is a $500-million national program to support the tourism sector in Canada.

The Major Festivals and Events Support Initiative (MFESI) is a two-year, $200-million national fund to help major Canadian festivals survive and adapt to the pandemic.

Work-Sharing Program: special measures for employers affected by the downturn in business related to COVID-19 effective March 15, 2020 to September 24, 2022.

Indigenous Community Business Fund: access funding to support their community-owned businesses whose revenues have been affected by COVID-19.

The Digital Economy Program helps small businesses take their businesses online.

4. Employment | Varies

Alberta Jobs Now program: Third intake is now open and will close when all funds are allocated. About $90 million in total funding is available.

TECHNATION’s Career Ready Program: An increased subsidy up to $7000 is awarded to employers hiring students from under-represented groups. Fall 2022 program opens in June 2022.

Industrial Research Assistance Program Youth Employment Program: Hire young tech talent to help breathe new life into your business.

Young Canada Works – Parks Canada: hires youth to work in all of the National Parks, National Historic Sites and National Marine Conservation Areas across Canada.

Computers for Schools Internship Program: Apply here to provide young Canadians with paid, practical, on-the-job information and communications technologies experience.

Alberta at Work supports access to training and career development opportunities, helps out-of-work Albertans re-enter the workforce and increases awareness of the benefits of living, working and investing in Alberta. Learn more.

5. Environment/CleanTech

Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP): The Request for Proposals (RFP) focusing on public places, on-street, multi-unit residential buildings, workplaces and vehicle fleets is now open until August 11, 2022.

ERA is seeking innovative CCUS technologies with strong potential for commercialization in Alberta.  Total funds available is $19 million. Deadline: September 12, 2022.

Financial support for technology innovation through NRC IRAP: expand its support to include an increased funding threshold of up to $10 million. Learn more.

The Alberta Methane Emissions Program is a three-year $17.6 million initiative to support methane emissions reductions, funded by the Government of Alberta through TIER fund.

Water Innovation: supports to to create a cleantech industry in water treatment.

NRCan plans to launch another Zero Emission Vehicle Awareness Initiative – Calls for Proposal in summer 2022. Stay tuned!

6. Export

Canada – Spain 2022 collaborative industrial research and development call for proposals and receive up to $500,000 CAD reimbursement. Canadian registration deadline: August 17, 2022.

CanExport SMEs: access up to $50,000 in funding to assist with international market development activities.

Canadian Technology Accelerator (CTA): Learn CTA programs and be explore opportunities to grow your business worldwide.

Mitacs Entrepreneur International assist with travel costs up to $5,000 to help you explore new business opportunities abroad.

Export Readiness – Micro Vouchers: with up to $20,000 funding to build and develop a strategic approach for expansion globally. Set to end on May 1, 2023 or when all funds are disbursed.

CanExport Innovation is now accepting applications for projects starting next fiscal year (2022-23). Up to $75,000 in funding available.

7. Indigenous

Submit a 1-minute pitch by June 21 to qualify for the 2022 Pow Wow Pitch with $200,000 in cash prizes! Learn more.

Clean Fuel Funds: funding for Indigenous-led clean production capacity projects. Applications will be accepted until funding is no longer available. Apply now!

Professional and Institutional Development Program:  funds projects that develop the capacity of communities to perform 10 core functions of governance. Deadline: Varies.

Community Opportunity Readiness: addresses the financial needs of Indigenous communities when they are in pursuit of an economic opportunity. Learn more.

Aboriginal Head Start on Reserve program helps enhance child development and school readiness for children living in First Nations communities on reserve.

Aboriginal Futures offers a Wage Subsidy program intended to assist First Nations and Inuit people who live in Calgary and the surrounding area secure employment.

Rupertsland Institute (RLI) provides post-secondary financial aid to Métis students to reduce the overall cost of education and the financial burden it can have.

8. Municipalities

Housing Supply Challenge: Round 3 – Northern Access– share a pool of up to $80M to implement your solution. Deadline. June 23, 2022.

Recreation Energy Conservation Program: Municipalities and community-related organizations are able to access up to $750,000 for all projects. Deadline: first-come, first-served.

The $2.75 billion Zero Emission Transit Fund offers support to public transit and school bus operators across Canada who are electrifying their fleets. Check here.

Electric Vehicle Charging Program: provide rebates for municipalities up to $150,000.

SouthGrow Regional Initiative: your community could receive up to $75,000 to install a Fast Charger. Learn more.

Climate Resilience Capacity Building Program: up to $80,000 funding per project available. Deadline: March 31, 2023.

Canada Community Revitalization Fund provides support to build and improve community infrastructure projects with up to $750,000 funding. Deadline: March 31, 2023.

9. Non-Profit

The CFEP Large Funding stream is for projects requesting over $125,001 and up to $1 million. annual intake of June 15.

WES Inclusive Women Venture Capital Initiative: is a 3 year non-repayable contribution program totaling $15 million to strengthen and build a more inclusive venture capital environment for Canadian women. Deadline: June 20, 2022.

Housing Supply Challenge: Round 3 – Northern Access– share a pool of up to $80M to implement your solution. Deadline. June 23, 2022.

Alberta Security Infrastructure Program: a grant for security improvements for groups at risk of hate or bias-motivated crimes or incidents. Available funding: $5-million grant program for 2022-2023, open all year.

The 2023 competition of the Innovation Fund is extended July 15, 2022. Up to $400 million in research infrastructure funding available.

Alberta Health Services: submit a request for expressions of interest and qualifications (RFEOIQ): Budget 2022 includes $750 million for home care. Deadline: July 28, 2022.

Donation Fund Program: Up to $350,000 in matching funds are being made available to support sport, physical activity and recreation in the province. Open for donations made between April 1 and August 30, 2022.

10. Post Secondary | Varies

John R. Evans Leaders Fund: Universities can submit proposals requesting up to $800,000 from the CFI. Next deadline: June 15, 2022.

Alliance International Quantum grants: Up to $25,000 grants for one year. Deadline: June 15, 2022.

The 2023 competition of the Innovation Fund is extended  July 15, 2022. Check here.

NSERC Alliance – Alberta Innovates Advance Program: you can request up to $150,000 per year and can be for up to two years in duration.

Check out the available funding opportunities through the National Quantum Strategy. Grant support available up to $1 million per year, for a duration of three to five years.

College and Community Innovation program: Provides innovative solutions for local and regional business challenges through the expertise of Canadian colleges. Deadline: Varies.

11. Technology | Varies

The IDEaS program will soon be launching a new challenge The Robot Round-up Contest! The challenge is expected to launch in June 2022. Stay tuned!

Zayed Sustainability Prize: apply to the US$3 million Prize with each winner in the Health, Food, Energy, and Water categories eligible to receive USD 600,000. Deadline: July 6, 2022.

Outreach Initiative grants and contributions program: support organizations for a variety of science- or innovation-based initiatives or projects. Application period: between September 1 and October 10.

Accelerating Innovations into CarE (AICE) – Validate Program: Alberta Innovates will contribute up to $300,000 CAD to support approved projects over a maximum term of 24 months.

The Boost Your Business Technology grant offers support to Canadian-owned small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) who want to adopt new digital technologies.

NGEn’s Cluster Building: provides up to $150K funding. Learn more.

The Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF): Request a minimum SIF contribution of $10 million for a proposal with total costs of at least $20 million.

Global Energy Show: Bringing together industry stakeholders and partners to share knowledge in the ever-changing global energy landscape. Date: June 7-9, 2022.

Join thousands of horticulture experts at GreenTech Amsterdam. Date: 14 – 16 June 2022.

The Avenue Innovation Event: explores innovation in leadership, energy transition and equity in tech access. Date: June 16, 2022.

Greentech Festival in Berlin. Date: June 22 – 24, 2022.

The IFMA23 conference will run from 26th June to 1st July 2022 and will be held at the Frederiksberg Campus in Copenhagen.

Climate Action Genomics Initiative virtual information session. Registration Deadlines: Early July 2022.

Accelerate from Anywhere (AfA): With multiple cohorts running from Fall 2021 to Summer 2022, discover the programs offered.

2022 Decentralised Energy Forum. Date: November 8-9, 2022.

13. Business Award Deadlines

Deloitte Technology Fast 50 Program: recognizes businesses that are transforming everything. Deadline: June 10, 2022.

The Calgary Fintech Award: Apply and compete for the chance to win up to $250,000 cash for your startup. Deadline: June 26, 2022.

Order of Canada. Deadline: July 1, 2022.

The Environmental Stewardship Award: recognizes cattle producers’ leadershio in conservation. Deadline: July 1, 2022.

Siminovitch Prize: Nominations are welcome for artists who have made a significant creative contribution to theatre in Canada. Deadline: July 4, 2022.

Zayed Sustainability Prize Opens Submissions for 2023 Cycle. Deadline: July 6, 2022.

Airdrie Business Awards recognize local businesses that have shown exceptional business practices. Deadline: June 6, 2022 – July 15, 2022.

Digiday Awards. Early Deadline: July 22, 2022. Regular Deadline: August 19, 2022. Last Chance Deadline: September 23, 2022.

Canada’s Healthy Workplace Month: Great Employer Award: Nomination is from August 1, 2022 – October 31, 2022.

The Green World Awards are one of the top environment awards campaigns on the planet. Deadline: November 30, 2022.

14. Government Update

New $2-million Specialist in End-of-Life Care, Neuroprognostication and Donation (SEND) program: a provincewide response for organ donation and transplantation opportunities.

Help shape the Next Policy Framework set to replace the Canadian Agricultural Partnership in April 2023. The survey closes June 6, 2022.

Expanding seats for veterinary medicine: Alberta’s government is investing $8.4 million over three years to this program.

Alberta is expanding the Alberta Security Infrastructure Program.

Alberta’s government is investing $6 million in grant funding for business loans aimed at supporting and empowering women entrepreneurs.

Alberta Women’s Entrepreneurs has received $3 million in grant funding through the Women’s Economic Recovery – Capital Growth Initiative.

A new $22-million affordable housing complex in Calgary’s vibrant Bridgeland community offers comfortable and safe homes to about 200 people.

The new $50-million facility will support Alberta potato producers and create more than 100 jobs for the Airdrie area.

Alberta’s government is committing additional funds to position the province for further expansion in the film and television industry.

Crime Stoppers will use the $850,000 over the next three years to continue its crime prevention efforts and create an independent, provincewide crime prevention task force.

Presenting 2022 Dieline Awards Shortlist.

The Scotiabank Women Initiative ups commitment to $10B to help Canadian women access capital.

An investment of almost $3.2 million will support 10 projects through Alberta Innovates’ Smart Agriculture and Food Digitalization and Automation Challenge funding.

Budget 2022 invests $789.4 million in this year’s Capital Plan for roads and bridges.

Alberta’s government awarded PIP $1 million through the Canadian Agricultural Partnership.

Alberta’s government is providing $100,000 to Bigstone Cree Nation to research, plan and develop justice-related services. The funding comes from the Proceeds of Crime Fund.

Alberta’s government is helping everyday Albertans by providing $600,000 to expand the Edmonton Police Service’s HELP teams.

Alberta’s government is making it easier for Albertans with disabilities to open Registered Disability Savings Plans (RDSP).

An $81-million increase in home care funding will pay for one million more hours of care in 2022-23.

CFI awards close to $1.8 million in research infrastructure to support Canada Research Chairs.
