Canada Cultural Investment Fund (CCIF) – Strategic Initiatives | Department of Canadian Heritage

Value:Maximum $2 million per project per fiscal year, up to 50% of total project expenses. In exceptional circumstances, up to 75% of total project expenses.


The Strategic Initiatives component of the Canada Cultural Investment Fund (CCIF) provides financial assistance for projects involving multiple partners that help arts and heritage organizations improve their business practices and diversify their revenues.By supporting collaborative projects, the Strategic Initiatives component encourages knowledge and resource sharing and the strategic use of technologies. This strengthens the business operations of arts and heritage organizations, helping them make stronger contributions to the Canadian society and economy.


o      Arts or heritage not-for-profit organization

o      Post-secondary education institution

o      Heritage organization governed by another level of government

Eligible Projects:

o      Developing and sharing of expertise, best practices and tools

o      Marketing and audience development

o      Innovation, experimentation and development of new approaches

o      Strategic use of technologies

Eligible Expenses:

o      Pro-rated salaries and wages directly related to the time spent on the project

o      Consultant fees

o      Promotion and marketing

o      Technology costs (specialized software, custom programming, etc.)

o      Translation costs

o      Evaluation of project results

o      Costs of producing the project audited financial report when the project funding is over $250,000

o      Administration expenses of up to 15% of total eligible expenses

o      Project-related travel and accommodation costs (must be reasonable and must not exceed the rates permitted in the federal government’s Travel Directive)


o      March 15th for projects starting on or after October 1st of the same year

o      September 15th for projects starting on or after April 1st of the following year
