The On-Farm Climate Action Fund is an initiative to help farmers tackle climate change. The Fund is part of the Government of Canada’s Agricultural Climate Solutions initiative, which falls under the $4 billion Natural Climate Solutions Fund, a program managed by Natural Resources Canada, Environment and Climate Change Canada, and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.
The Fund will provide $200 million from 2021 until 2024 for the adoption of beneficial management practices in the above 3 areas to store carbon and reduce greenhouse gas emissions directly on farms.
Eligible Applicants
Starting August 12, 2021, the On-Farm Climate Action Fund is seeking proposals from potential delivery partners to redistribute the funds to farmers to support the adoption of best management practices in the 3 areas. Potential delivery partners include:
- not-for-profit organizations, including producer groups, commodity organizations and non-governmental organizations
- Indigenous groups
- for-profit organizations
- provincial or territorial Crown corporations
Eligible Expenses
The objective of the On-Farm Climate Action Fund is to support farmers in adopting beneficial management practices that store carbon and reduce greenhouse gases, specifically in the areas of:
- nitrogen management
- cover cropping
- rotational grazing practices
