Description

The Cancer Research for Screening and Prevention (CRSP) Program Fund grants are available to support and encourage cancer prevention and screening initiatives to improve health outcomes for Albertans.

Eligible Applicants

The following Alberta-based institutions can apply for the grant:

  • post-secondary institutions
  • incorporated provincial non-profit community organizations
    • Organizations must be in operation for a minimum of one year and be in good standing with required filings and their status.
  • Alberta Health Services, including the Strategic Clinical Networks
  • Métis settlements and First Nations communities and organizations
  • municipalities (cities, towns, villages, etc.)

Indigenous Stream

The Indigenous Stream of CRSP prioritizes Indigenous-led initiatives that foster cancer prevention and screening within Indigenous communities and organizations. This funding stream will specifically consider Indigenous-led programs that foster reconciliation, healing and cultural safety for Indigenous peoples and communities, while addressing the challenges posed by cancer.

Eligible applicants must be a legal entity located in the Province of Alberta and include:

  • First Nation “Band” as defined in Canada’s Indian Act
  • First Nations
  • Tribal Councils and Treaty Organizations
  • Metis Settlements General Council
  • Metis Settlements
  • Métis Nation of Alberta association
  • other Métis regional or local associations or societies
  • Indigenous not-for-profit organizations

Eligible Expenses

The Alberta government is allocating time-limited grants of up to $1 million to principal investigators from eligible institutions for:

  • research or proof of concept initiatives that promote improvements to cancer screening practices
  • health promotion and prevention research with cancer-related outcomes
  • development of care pathways

Deadline Date

The Expression of Interest (EOI) submission for the 2025-26 Cancer Research for Screening and Prevention (CRSP) Program Fund has closed. The program operates on a periodic/cyclical basis, and the EOI submission for the 2026-27 program is anticipated to open in Spring 2026. This is a multi-stage process, where eligible EOIs are invited to submit a full application. Please visit the official website for the most current details and guidelines.
