The Donation Fund Program has been set to encourage support for the development of sport, physical activity and recreation in Alberta, the Donation Fund Program gives individual and corporate donors a tax incentive to invest in the future of the sector and a process for the acceptance of contributions from charitable organizations. The Ministry of Culture and Status of Women, responsible for Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation, administers the Donation Fund Program supporting the development of sport, physical activity and recreation in Alberta. This includes support for the development of athletes, coaches, officials, instructors, leaders, volunteers, programs, facilities and events.
Provincial sport, physical activity and recreation organizations receiving operating grants from the Ministry are eligible to participate in the program. Understanding the unconditional nature of a donation, donors may suggest their donations go to support eligible sport, physical activity and recreation development programs and qualify for an official donation receipt.
- Donations must follow the Donation Fund Program Guidelines and must be given freely, with no benefit to the donor in alignment with Canada Revenue Agency gifting guidelines.
- Only donations received during the campaign, April 1 to August 30, 2022, or until the $350,000 commitment has been spent, will be eligible for matching.
- The maximum individual donation match is $1,000.
- Eligible sport, physical activity and recreation development programs are those delivered directly or in partnership with the organizations enrolled in the Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation Donation Fund Program.
