Emerging Immigrant and Refugee Communities (EIRC) Grant Program – Space Rental Subsidy | City of Edmonton

Rental of commercial space is subsidized at 60% up to a maximum of $5,000 per year. Rental of space in not for profit or public facilities such as Community Leagues, schools, cultural halls, etc. is subsidized at 80% up to a maximum of $6,000 annually.

The 2017 Emerging Immigrant and Refugee Community (EIRC) Grant Program aligns with the City’s business plan by supporting immigrant and refugee communities who are new to Edmonton and in the process of settling and integrating. EIRC Grants provide assistance to:

  • Rent space
  • Host community events
  • Strengthen cultural identity and pride
  • Partner and collaborate with other community not-for-profit organizations to address gaps in existing programs and services

The Space Rental Subsidy assists emerging immigrant and refugee communities to cover the cost of renting space for their organization and/or programs.

Eligible Applicants

  • Be an Edmonton-based immigrant or refugee community organization in the process of settlement and/or integration
  • Be registered as a not for profit organization for at least one year (short term or one-time rentals do not require the group to be registered as a not for profit)
  • Be up to date with reports from previous grants received through the City of Edmonton
  • Show an ability to pay their portion of the rent not covered by the subsidy for a minimum of three months
  • Have a bank account in the organization or group’s name
