Farm Technology Program

The maximum grant an applicant can receive from the program is $50,000 over the Program Term (April 2021 to March 2023).

The Farm Technology Program supports the adoption of innovative technology that minimizes agricultural waste, optimizes farm efficiency, and encourages the adoption of best management practices in farm security.

This program provides financial incentives on new technologies that are commercially available and already demonstrated under Alberta conditions. To be eligible for funding, the program targets technology that is proven, but not yet widely adopted within an applicant’s farm type.

Eligible Applicants

To be eligible to apply to this Program, the applicant must be a Primary Producer:

  • operating in Alberta that is responsible for input costs or agricultural crops or livestock producing at least $25,000 worth of farm commodities annually. This does not include a landlord whose only interest in the crop or livestock is ownership of the land, and
  • has either a current Environmental Farm Plan (EFP) Certificate or letter of completion from an EFP technician; or is currently working on an EFP and is in a position to receive an EFP certificate or letter of completion from an EFP technician before the end of the Project Term.

Eligible Expenses

Examples of eligible expenses are electronic sensors, data collection and storage units, livestock ID readers, GPS equipment trackers, and remote monitors.
