The Aboriginal Economic Partnerships Program (AEPP) supports Indigenous communities, businesses and organizations to foster economic development and contribute to improved social outcomes for Indigenous Albertans. AEPP primarily supports capacity development through grant funding, though also provides workshops on economic development and related services. Projects must fall into at least one of the following categories:

  1. Capacity Development(e.g. economic development strategic planning, governance development or restructuring (both corporate and community), management and human resource capacity development, etc.).
  2. Opportunity Development(e.g. opportunity assessments, economic leakage studies, asset and skills inventories, feasibility studies, business plans, marketing strategies, etc.).

Eligible Applicants

  • Tribal Councils
  • First Nations
  • Metis Settlements
  • Metis or First Nations companies or organizations
  • Non-government organizations that directly promote the economic development and capacity building of Indigenous Albertans
  • The applicant should be located, or have established operations, in Alberta and be in compliance with the terms and conditions of all previous funding arrangements with Indigenous Relations

Eligible Expenses

  • Business plans and feasibility studies
  • Management and human resource capacity development
  • Community or regional economic development strategies
  • Investment or marketing strategies to attract external investment
  • Leakage studies and opportunity identification exercises
  • Corporate governance structuring and policy development
  • Regional economic forecasting tools
  • Market Analysis
  • Research targeted to fill information gaps on Aboriginal economic participation
  • Development of a publicly available knowledge resource that can support informed decision-making across sectors
