Nutrient Recovery from Wastewater/Washwater program provides funding for greenhouses, nursery, dairy and poultry operations, and fruit and vegetable washing facilities requiring improvements to wastewater or washwater systems. Projects will focus on responsible water and nutrient management through the use of nutrient recovery systems.
Eligible Applicants
Producers who:
- Verified, 4th Edition Environmental Farm Plan
Eligible Expenses
- Manure dewatering systems to recover nutrients (e.g., on-farm liquid concentration systems using flocculants, membranes, or other suitable technology)
- Milkhouse washwater systems must be designed in accordance with the specifications in Handling Milking Centre Washwater Factsheet 14-047
- Modifications to existing greenhouse irrigation systems to enable nutrient recovery and allow for recycling of washwater or wastewater (e.g. collection, storage, transfer and treatment system)
- Treatment systems and recycling of washwater or wastewater streams from existing milkhouses, egg washing, fruit and vegetable washing facilities, greenhouses, nursery crop and horticultural facilities in order to recover nutrients
- Treatment trench systems, constructed wetlands, or vegetated filter strip systems must be designed by a professional engineer
