Soil and Water Sustainability Program

Value

Maximum of 25% assistance to the lessor of 10% of their gross commodity income, or $15,000 per year for all projects listed within this program.

Description

The Soil and Water Sustainability Program assists farmers to mitigate on-farm environmental risk for soil and water as identified in their individual Environmental Farm Plans that accelerate environmental farm stewardship in Nova Scotia.

Eligible Applicants

A farm that:

  • Has a current Farm Registration
  • Is at least 19 years of age
  • Reports farming income & expenses that show gross commodity income of at least $30,000

Eligible Expenses

  • Sustainable Agriculture Water Supply
  • Water Well Management
  • Improved Water Practices and Efficiencies
  • Fuel and Chemical Storage
  • Improved Manure Storage, Composting and Handling
  • Winter Pasturing Management
  • Farmyard Runoff
  • Field Water Management
  • Erosion Control Structures
  • Enhancing Riparian and Agro-Ecosystem Health

Deadline Date

  Two intake periods will be offered: (1) Spring- March 15, 2020–May 15, 2020 (2) Fall- July 15, 2020–September 15, 2020
