ValueGrant: Up to 50% of eligible costs to a maximum of $175,000.
We fund feasibility studies of initiatives that have the potential to capture and treat all wastewater in a target area to at least secondary treatment standards using septic system technologies. This funding helps Canadian cities and communities of all sizes protect local bodies of water through wastewater treatment.
All Canadian municipal governments; Municipal partners applying in partnership with a municipal government.
Business-as-usual projects, such as replacing septic tanks with the same system, are not eligible.
Your feasibility study should assess the feasibility (e.g., technical, financial) of an initiative as well as its potential environmental, economic and social impacts.
Examples of what you might study:
- Replacing septic tanks with more advanced septic treatment systems
- Constructing a system to process the effluent from multiple septic systems (for private residences or properties in which your municipality has an interest)
- Alternative financial models that could be used to accelerate the replacement of septic systems with advanced septic treatments (e.g., loans that are repaid through property taxes, financing through municipal environmental bonds)
- The performance of alternative septic treatment systems
Deadline DateApplications are accepted year round, though this offer will close when all funding has been allocated.
