We fund feasibility studies of initiatives that address specific waste stream challenges (e.g., biosolids, specific types of construction, renovation & demolition (CRD) waste, household hazardous waste, textiles, furniture, diapers, polystyrene, certain plastics, other substances). This funding helps Canadian cities and communities of all sizes improve their waste stream management.
Eligible Applicants
All Canadian municipal governments; Municipal partners applying in partnership with a municipal government.
Eligible Expenses
Your project must address a particular type of item (e.g., biosolids, specific types of construction, renovation & demolition (CRD) waste, household hazardous waste, textiles, furniture, diapers, polystyrene, certain plastics, other substances), improve its waste stream diversion rate by weight or volume and offer other environmental benefits.
Your feasibility study should assess the feasibility (e.g., technical, financial) of an initiative as well as its potential environmental, economic and social impacts.
Examples of what you might study:
- A facility to treat or process a challenging waste stream
- Collection programs, waste stream sorting mechanisms, or value-added processing that diverts the waste stream from landfill
- Partnerships with the private sector to divert and/or process the waste stream
