The Surplus Federal Real Property for Homelessness Initiative (SFRPHI) is one of the Homelessness Partnering Strategy (HPS) funding streams. It makes surplus federal real properties available to communities for projects that help stabilize the living arrangements of homeless individuals, families, and also those at risk of becoming homeless.
Eligible Applicants
- Eligible communities
- must demonstrate the need in the community for facilities that could help stabilize the living arrangements of homeless individuals and families or those at risk of becoming homeless.
- Eligible recipients
- Not-for-profit organizations or registered charities
- For-profit organizations
- Municipalities
- Aboriginal organizations
- Public health and educational institutions; and
- Provincial and territorial governments and their entities, including institutions, agencies and Crown Corporations
- For-Profit Eligibility
- must demonstrate that the nature and intent of the activity is non-commercial, not intended to generate profit based on fair market value, supports program priorities and objectives, and fits within the Community Plan, or identified local need where community plans are not required.
Eligible Expenses
The program will fund the following eligible activities:
- Activities designed to reduce homelessness, including through the Housing First approach as appropriate based on communities’ needs and surplus property available
- Activities designed to prevent individuals and families at risk from becoming homeless
- Other activities that support the objectives of the HPS and SFRPHI
