The Regional Slaughterers Competitiveness Support Program ensures the sustainability and development of animal production sectors by increasing the competitiveness of slaughterhouses and improving the slaughter supply according to regional or sectoral needs.
Eligible Applicants
Slaughterhouses and groups of producers, processors or entrepreneurs who generate sales of $ 100 million or less.
Eligible Expenses
Component 1 – Diagnostic studies – the objective of component 1 is to support a company or a group of producers, processors or entrepreneurs in carrying out a diagnostic study which will make it possible to:
- guide the applicant in their strategic decisions
- carry out a regional or sectoral diagnosis
- carry out plans and specifications for a project that will improve the competitiveness of a slaughter establishment or respond to a regional or sectoral issue.
- The financial assistance granted can reach 60% of eligible expenses, up to a maximum of $ 20,000 per applicant, for the duration of the program. The only eligible expenses for this component are the hiring of an external consultant.
Component 2 – Improving the competitiveness of existing slaughterhouses – aims to support a business in the improvements to be made to fixed assets to increase the competitiveness of its establishment, such as:
- optimizing the company’s slaughter capacity and improving its profitability
- the promotion of products from the main activities of the company, in particular by cutting and manufacturing cold meats
- the achievement of environmental or regulatory requirements in terms of hygiene, sanitation or animal welfare.
- The financial assistance granted may reach 50% of eligible expenses, up to a maximum of $ 100,000 per applicant, for the duration of the program. Modification of premises and purchase of equipment may be part of the eligible expenses for this component.
Component 3 – Improvement of the slaughter supply
– aims to support a company or a group of producers, processors or entrepreneurs for the realization of a development project that will meet a regional or sectoral slaughter need. The project will concern:
- construction, change of vocation or return to service of a slaughterhouse
- the addition of a production line in an existing slaughterhouse to meet a regional or sectoral need
- obtaining an operating license which will increase the level of service of a slaughterhouse.
- The financial assistance granted may reach 50% of eligible expenses, up to a maximum of $ 200,000 per applicant, for the duration of the program. The construction or modification of premises and the purchase of equipment are part of the eligible expenses.
