Museums Assistance Program (MAP) – Access to Heritage | Department of Canadian Heritage

Value: Up to $400,000 per project ($200,000 per fiscal year), up to 70% of expenses.

Description:

The Museums Assistance Program (MAP) supports heritage institutions and workers in the preservation and presentation of heritage collections. The program fosters the preservation of Aboriginal culture and facilitates access to heritage collections for all Canadians. It also promotes professional knowledge, skills and practices related to key museum functions. The MAP provides funding to Canadian museums and related institutions through five separate components:

  • Access to Heritage
  • Exhibition Circulation Fund
  • Aboriginal Heritage
  • Collections Management
  • Canada-France Agreement

The Access to Heritage component provides funding to heritage organizations for travelling exhibitions in Canada, to promote access to heritage across different geographic regions.

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the criteria in one of the following two categories:

  • Incorporated non-profit Canadian museums* which:
    • Provide services to the public year-round
    • Employ the equivalent of one full-time paid professional staff
    • Have policies for key museum functions
    • Have a current three to five-year strategic/business plan
  • Museums associations and incorporated non-profit Canadian service organizations whose membership relates to the museum sector which:
    • Provide services to the public year-round
    • Employ the equivalent of one full-time paid professional staff
    • Have policies for key museum functions
    • Have a current three to five-year strategic/business plan

Eligible Projects:

  • Design, production, promotion and circulation of travelling exhibitions where the conceptual stage has been completed
  • Research, design and production of interpretive material associated with the travelling exhibition
  • Design, production, promotion and circulation of travelling art exhibitions that are retrospective or present a historical perspective
