 Grants are taxpayer dollars. The political environment in Canada and the USA will likely experience change in 2025. How will these changes impact grants? Some grants will be gone. Some grants will change names. A number of grants will likely still be going strong. Track your top grants carefully. Attend grant agency events to monitor the latest developments.

1. Agriculture

Protein Industries Canada – Technology Leadership program: now accepting EoIs. EOIs for projects may be submitted until Jan. 16, 2025.

Protein Industries Canada opens call for projects to explore blending of pulses and cereals to create new ingredients and food products. Access up to $10 million. EOIs for projects may be submitted until Jan. 16, 2025. 

Agricultural Clean Technology Program Research and Innovation Stream – Accelerator: provide non-repayable contributions up to $8 million over 3 years. Deadline: January 10, 2025.

Dairy Direct Payment Program: $250 million will be made available up to March 31, 2025. 

Alberta Agricultural Societies Program: 2025/26 Grant Application Intake: Spring 2025. 

Genomic Applications Partnership Program (GAPP): Total Funding Available: $6,000,000. Expression of Interest/Project Pitch Video Submission: Spring, 2025.

On-Farm Efficiency Program: funding to $150,000. Application is closed but will re-open in April 1, 2025.

FCC’s Sustainability Incentive Program: receive one payment per year at a maximum of $2,000. Applications will close on December 31, 2024, and will re-open in May 2025.

AgriMarketing Program: is oversubscribed, and currently out of funding for applications. There will be second intake for applications in the Spring of 2025. Stay tuned for more details.

AFPA’s Food Futures Program: – Alberta Business Grants: wage subsidies of up to $5,000 for temporary work experience placements. This funding concludes Sep 30, 2025. 

Food Innovation Challenge – Cultivating a resilient food future: Developing the end-to-end Cellular Food capacity for Canadian global leadership. May open in 2025.

AgriAssurance Program – National Industry Association Component: AAFC will contribute up to $1 million grant per year. Application is ongoing until September 30, 2027; however, the application period may close sooner if funding has been fully committed.

AgriAssurance Program – Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Component: AAFC contribution toward a project up to $50,000. Application is ongoing until September 30, 2027; however, the application period may close sooner if funding has been fully committed.

AgriInnovate Program: funding up to $5,000,000. Applications is ongoing until the end of the program on March 31, 2028, or until funding has been fully committed.

Agricultural Clean Technology Program: Program funding for the Research and Innovation Stream is $50 million. Program ends March 31, 2028.

Supply Management Processing Investment Fund contributes up to $5 million in non-repayable contribution to an organization over the life of the program until March 31, 2028.

Canadian Agricultural Strategic Priorities Program: access up to $1M funding per year up to five years. Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis until the end of the program on March 31, 2029.

Poultry and Egg On-Farm Investment Program (PEFIP): provides non-repayable contributions of almost $759 million over 10 years. Applications will be accepted until March 31, 2030.

CAAIN 2024 Open Competition: $6M CAD in funding to support innovations in agriculture and their adoption in the commercial space. Rolling intake is now open. 

Market Development Program for Turkey and Chicken: The program will provide over $44 million to the sector over the next 10 years.

Agri-Food and Bioindustrial Innovation Program provides support for up to $500,000. Application is ongoing. 

Canada Pavilion Program: aims to make trade show participation easier for Canadian companies at the world’s premier food and beverage events. Application is ongoing. 

Protein Industries Canada will be investing $30 million into these artificial intelligence projects, benefiting the plant-based and agrifood sector. Application is still open.

RDAR – Irrigation Targeted Call for Proposals, which focuses on Drought Management and Production Resilience is now open. Funding up to $500,000 in capital expenses on a similar cost-shared basis.

RDAR – Producer Research and Evaluation Program is still open for applications. Receive up to $20,000 per project to complete on-farm research.

Water Pumping Program – Provides assistance to producers in securing adequate water supplies for domestic, livestock or agricultural purposes.

Rural Electric Grant Program (REGP) assists farmers financially to access a basic, essential service at a reasonable cost and aids in the diversification of our rural economy.

Venture-Capital Ready: This fully funded investment training program is specifically designed for established food businesses throughout Canada. Register now.

Farm fuel and rural utility programs: Funding and programs to assist rural Albertans with essential services at a reasonable cost. Learn more.

Protein Industries Canada moves to continuous intake for Technology Leadership projects. Learn more.

Canada Brand is open to export-ready, registered Canadian business entities that have a role in producing, promoting or supporting Canadian agriculture, food or seafood products.

Agri-Processing Investment Tax Credit (APITC) provides a 12% non-refundable tax credit when corporations invest $10 million or more in a project to build or expand a value-added agri-processing facility in Alberta.

Emerging Opportunities Program provides maximum grant funding to a project up to $2,000,000 funding.

Resilient Agricultural Landscape Program (RALP): program funding up to $300,000. Year 3 Intake Period: February 1, 2025 – November 30, 2025.

The Water Program supports agricultural water management by helping primary producers adopt agriculture water better management practices and priority actions.

CMF launched the Iteration Program. Deadline: January 30, 2025. 

Community Cultural Action Fund — Development of Official Language Communities. Deadline: LoI – February 1; Funding application- April 6. 

Prairies Performing Arts Initiative (PPAI): maximum of $750,000 per project over a maximum of 3 years in non-repayable contributions. EoI will be accepted on a timed intake until February 1, 2025, or until funding has been fully committed. 

Historic resource conservation grants: access funding ranges from $50,000 – $100,000 to conserve historic places. The annual application deadline is the first working day of February.

Heritage Preservation Partnership Program: Maximum grant is $25,000. The annual application deadline is the first working day of February. 

Heritage Awareness grants provide matching grants of up to $25,000. The annual application deadline is the first working day of February. 

The Canada Feature Film Fund (“CFFF”) of Telefilm Canada (“Telefilm”) seeks to improve the long-term viability of the Canadian audiovisual industry. Deadline: February 18, 2025. 

International Promotion Program: aimed at encouraging the international promotion of Canadian audiovisual works through participation in international festivals and events. Deadline: February 18, 2025. 

Community Support Organizations Operating Funding – supports arts programs and services to communities. Deadline: March 3, 2025.

Visual Arts and New Media Individual Project Funding: provides up to $18,000 to support development of individual Alberta artists, arts administrators, or an ensemble of artists. Deadline: March 3, 2025. 

Dance Individual Project Funding: provides up to $18,000 funding. Deadline: March 3, 2025.

Literary Individual Project Funding provides up to $18,000 to support the development of individual Alberta artists, arts administrators, or an ensemble of artists. Deadline: March 3, 2025.

Indigenous Arts Individual Project Funding: provides up to $18,000. Deadline: March 3, 2025.

National Multisport Services Organization — Sport Support Program: Deadline: March 16, 2025. 

Apprenticeship Completion Grant (ACG): one-time taxable cash grant lifetime amount of $2,000 per person for registered apprentices. The program will end March 31, 2025. 

Artist – Driven Organizations component of the Explore and Create program: The Canada Council for the Arts has extended the deadline to the spring of 2025.

National Creation Fund: invest up to $2,000,000 a year in 9 to 11 projects.  Application is ongoing. 

Alberta Made Screen Industries Program: Supporting Alberta’s screen-based production sector with targeted grant funding. 

Canada Cultural Spaces Fund supports the improvement of physical conditions for arts, heritage culture and creative innovation. Application is ongoing.

International Single Sport Events — Hosting Program: access up to $250,000 (Tier I) or more that $250,000 (Tier II). Application is ongoing. 

Research and Creation component of Explore and Create: provides up to $25,000. Submit your application anytime before the start of your project.

Limited Support to Endangered Arts Organizations – Canada Cultural Investment Fund: access up to $250,000 funding. Application is ongoing.

Film and Television Tax Credit offers a refundable Alberta tax credit on eligible production costs. Applicants may apply for either a 22% or 30% tax credit rate.

Movable Cultural Property Grants help designated organizations acquire cultural property of outstanding significance and national importance to Canada. Application is ongoing.

The Events component of the Community Support, Multiculturalism, and Anti-Racism Initiatives Program provides funding to community-based events.

Arts, culture and sports grants search: Find funding opportunities for projects in the areas of arts, culture, community, heritage, recreation, sport, and diversity and inclusion.

Legacy Fund – Building Communities through Arts and Heritage: access up to a maximum of $500,000.

Video program: A maximum of $40,000 in video funding is available per qualifying release per fiscal year, across all programs. Apply multiple times throughout the year.

Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit (CPTC) provides eligible productions with a fully refundable tax credit, available at a rate of 25 per cent of the qualified labour expenditure. applications on an ongoing basis.

NEW! Young Canada Works in Heritage Organizations (YCWHO) is an employment program for students. For the 2025-2026 funding cycle, the application deadline is January 17, 2025. 

NEW! Young Canada Works at Building Careers in Heritage (YCWBCH) is an internship program. Eligible employers may benefit from wage subsidies and access a pool of college and university graduates. Deadline: January 17, 2025. 

NEW! Young Canada Works in Both Official Languages (YCWBOL): employers may benefit from salary subsidies and access to a pool of talented youth with innovative ideas and competitive skills. Deadline: February 3, 2025.

Green Jobs in Natural Resources – Call for Proposals 2025-28: Deadline: January 15, 2025. 

Social Development Partnerships Program – Disability Component – Disability Benefits Navigation (Navigation Services): up to $1 million for a project that is up to 2 years in length. Deadline: January 16, 2025. 

Alberta Industry Skills Grant pilot program: provides $5 million in total funding for all grants, but each applicant can qualify for funding of up to $1.5 million per project. Deadline: January 24, 2025. 

Personal Support Worker Retirement Savings Innovation Program– Call for Concepts: funding amount between $1,000,000 and a maximum of $30,000,000 for a project spread over 24 months. Deadline: January 24, 2025.

Canada Green Corps – Science and Technology Internship Programme: Up to $28,000 wage subsidy. Last day of placement funding: January 31, 2025. 

First Nations and Inuit Summer Work Experience Program will open January 3, 2025 until March 7, 2025. 

First Nations and Inuit Skills Link Program will open January 3, 2025 until March 7, 2025. 

Canada Retraining and Opportunities Initiative: application is until March 31, 2025 or close earlier if funding has been fully committed. 

TECHNATION’s Calgary Wage Subsidy Program: provides substantial wage subsidies for tech-immersive placements.  Apply now! 

Industry r&D Associates Program supports Alberta tech companies with up to $105,000 to employ in-house professional research and developmental expertise. 

Micro Voucher Program provides up to $10,000 to help Alberta tech companies design and/or develop innovative technological solutions. 

Voucher Program provides Alberta tech companies with up to $100,000 to accelerate new product commercialization. 

TECTERRA Legacy Program: attracts aspiring geomatics enthusiasts and offers co-op and internship opportunities for job placement, and invests in advanced technology to enhance geomatics education. 

High School Youth Researcher Summer Program: provides exceptional Grade 11 and 12 students in the province with paid experiential learning opportunities at post-secondary institutes in Alberta. 

EHRC – Destination Trade: Providing financial incentives of up to $5,000. Open to applications. 

Helmets to Hardhats Skilled Pathway program offers safety certification, personal safety equipment, supervisory training and employment referrals for service members. Learn more. 

Rural Team Recruitment Grant Program: maximum salary, inclusive of benefits, is $145,000 of which 50% will be paid by Alberta Health. 

Summer Research Studentships (SRS) program provides undergraduate students with paid experiential learning opportunities at post-secondary institutes in Alberta. Application is ongoing. 

ECO Canada – Youth in Natural Resources: Eligible employers can receive 75% of the candidate’s wages up to $30,000. Application is open.

Self Employment Training Program: To learn more, join an online Information Session offered every Monday at 11:00 am or Wednesday at 2:00 pm.

Student Work Placement (Co-Op): provide 50% of a wage up to a maximum of $5,000 to eligible employers who hire the brightest minds in STEAM and Business. Application is now open. 

Indigenous Employment Training Partnerships provides grant funding to Indigenous communities and organizations to deliver group-training projects.

YMCA Summer Work Student Exchange (SWSE): Applications are open for the 2025 summer exchange program!  

Alberta is Calling! Moving Bonus Program will give  $5,000 refundable tax credit to eligible skilled tradespersons who move to Alberta between May 1, 2024 and December 31, 2024. Eligible applicants can start applying on May 1, 2025.

Workforce Strategies grant: Funding for projects that address labour and skills shortages and support Alberta’s economic recovery. Application is ongoing. 

Innovative Work-Integrated Learning (I-WIL) initiative helps give valuable and relevant work experience to post-secondary students across Canada. 

Wage Earner Protection Program (WEPP): provides timely payment of eligible wages owing to workers whose employer has gone bankrupt or become subject to receivership.

Industry Commercialization Associates – Receive up to $120,000 to help cover the salary for employees to promote the commercialization of your business. Application is open.

Science & Technology Internship Program (STIP) – Green Jobs: Up to 75% in wage subsidies are available for employers. Apply through delivery organization.

Women’s Employment Skills Training (WEST): a 9 week program, specially tailored to empower women and provide them with a comprehensive introduction to essential careers within the aviation industry.

Science Horizons Youth Internship Program: wage subsidies up to $25,000. Applications for 2024-2025 intake are open!

Alberta Advantage Immigration Program: New Law Enforcement Pathway in the Alberta Express Entry Stream.

University of Calgary- Schulich School of Engineering is pleased to introduce a paid internship program for Master of Engineering (MEng) students.

GRIT (Get Ready in Trades) is a trades-focused career exploration and development program created for youth with disabilities and barriers to success. Application is ongoing.

Autism Calgary – Spectrum Advantage: a 4 month program that assists all participants with soft skill development and also includes financial assistance to participants.

DiversityWorks: employers are eligible to receive financial support to train and hire new employees.

Career and Employment Services – Strive 2 is a customized program to help individuals address and resolve their identified barriers, develop skills and secure/maintain employment.

Work-Sharing Program helps employers and employees avoid layoffs, when there is a temporary decrease in the normal level of business activity that is beyond the control of the employer.

Computers for Schools Intern (CFSI) program seeks to enhance the employability and marketability of youth through internships. Application is ongoing.

TECHNATION’s Career Ready Program: An increased subsidy of 70% (to a maximum of $7000.00) is awarded to employers hiring students from under-represented groups

Canadian Benefit for Parents of Young Victims of Crime: eligible parents with payments of $500 per week, paid every 2 weeks, for a maximum of 35 weeks over a period of 3 years.

Career Starter wage subsidy open for a limited time. Get up to $15k to hire young talent.

The Student Work Placement Program gives post-secondary students across Canada paid work experience related to their field of study. Apply for wage subsidies through one of the following funding recipients find here.

Environmental Jobs Growth Program: eligible employers receive up to $18,750 in wage funding. Application is open.

4. Environment/CleanTech 

NEW! Climate Action Microgrant: offers six microgrants of up to $5,000 each to advance projects focused on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, conserving water, or improving waste reduction and diversion. Deadline: February 28, 2025. 

Emissions Reduction Advancement Program: An industry-funded program established under the Clean Fuel Regulations that will support projects that reduce short term GHG emissions in Canada. More details will be available later in 2024.

ERA’s – Advanced Materials Challenge:successful applicants are eligible for up to $5 million with a minimum request of $250,000. Deadline: January 22, 2024. 

Energy Innovation Program (EIP) – National Energy Systems Modelling Call for Proposals: request up to $1M. Deadline: January 24, 2024. 

Energy Innovation Program (EIP) – Mining Decarbonization Demonstration Call: request up to $5M. Deadline: January 27, 205.

FCM’s Tree Planting – Funding for ambitious and equitable tree planting projects. Access up to a maximum of $10 million in project funding. Deadline: February 4, 2025.

Genomic Applications Partnership Program (GAPP): Total Funding Available: $6,000,000. Expression of Interest/Project Pitch Video Submission: TBC, 2025.

Funding for Indigenous-led awareness and education projects for cleaner transportation and clean fuels. Call for proposals with continuous intake open until March 31, 2025, or until funds are fully allocated.

Green Freight Program: Stream 1 (Assess and Retrofit): is providing grant funding up to a maximum of $250,000. Continuous intake basis until March 31, 2027.

Alberta Petrochemicals Incentive Program: open to until November 1, 2030, based on capital investment.

Innovation Employment Grant: Companies can receive a grant of up to 20% toward qualifying research and development expenditures. 

Federal Internal Energy R&D: funds energy-related RD&D activities undertaken in federal departments and agencies. 

Canada Nature Fund for Aquatic Species at Risk: application is now open. 

Critical Habitat Interdepartmental Program: funding up to $80,000. The call for proposals for the 2025-2026 fiscal year is now open. 

ERA’s Strategic Energy Management for Industry (SEMI) program is designed to provide industrial and manufacturing facilities with knowledge, expertise, and training in energy management. 

Energy Storage and Minerals supports development of next-generation materials, critical minerals, and end products for a more competitive, modern, and sustainable minerals and materials industry. Application is ongoing. 

2 Billion Trees Program: The ongoing call for proposals is open.

Ecosystem Development Partnership Program: Building Alberta’s entrepreneurial ecosystem and creating competitive advantage through collaboration.

Clean Water and Wastewater Fund: provide short-term funding of $2 billion for projects that will contribute to the rehabilitation of both water treatment and distribution infrastructure and existing wastewater and storm water treatment systems. 

Clean economy investment tax credits (ITCs): your business may be eligible for tax credits for investments in Canada that support the transition to net zero emissions.

Bioenergy and Circular Economy: supports projects focused on renewable fuels, waste conversion and building a circular economy in plastics. Application is ongoing.

Critical Minerals and Emerging Tech: Supports development of next-generation materials, critical minerals, and end products for a better minerals and materials industry. Application is ongoing.

Renewable and Alternative Energy Program: This program invests in projects to develop and deploy clean technologies to benefit Albertans and contribute to the province’s low-carbon economy.

Methane Emissions Reduction Program supports technologies that detect, monitor, and mitigate methane emissions reductions from Alberta’s oil and gas industry. Application is ongoing.

Recovery Technologies program advances technologies that improve hydrocarbon recovery while reducing associated emissions.

Remote Area Heating Allowance (RAHA) program: currently scheduled to expire March 31, 2026. Rebates to Albertans of up to 25% of the cost of fuel.

Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) and Hydrogen Program invests in projects to adapt, develop, and deploy innovative clean technologies.

AMEP technology development trials funding is to expedite the commerciality of new technologies. grant is up to 100% of the cost.

Clean Energy for Rural and Remote Communities Program: still accepting applications under these streams: Biomass heating, district heating, and combined heat and power systems and Research, Development, and Demonstration projects.

Low Carbon Economy Leadership Fund provides funding directly to provinces and territories to help them reduce carbon pollution, meet Canada’s 2030 climate target, and support our goal of net-zero emissions by 2050.

International Technology Partnership Program supports Alberta businesses with up to $250,000 to develop products or to conduct pilot tests with an international partner. 

CanExport GAC-Led Delegations is now accepting applications. apply for funding to cover up to 50% of costs for participating in certain initiatives organized by GAC – TCS.

Ideation Fund enables NRC researchers to explore transformative research ideas in collaboration with external partners such as academic institutions and small and medium-sized enterprises. Calls for NRC proposals open annually in May.

Regional Artificial Intelligence Initiative (RAII) in the Prairie Provinces: applications will be accepted on a continuous basis until December 31, 2028, or until funding has been fully committed.

Refundable tax credit – Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) Investment Tax Credit (ITC): applies to eligible expenditures incurred for a qualified CCUS project, from January 1, 2022, to December 31, 2040.

Refundable tax credit – Clean Technology (CT) Investment Tax Credit (ITC): for capital invested in the adoption and operation of new clean technology (CT) property in Canada from March 28, 2023, to December 31, 2034.

Strategic Networking and Development Program: Support of up to $25,000 for events that drive innovation and progress in the tech industry. 

Innovation Employment Grant: Companies can receive a grant of up to 20% toward qualifying research and development expenditures.

Micro Voucher Program provides up to $10,000 to help Alberta tech companies design and/or develop innovative technological solutions.

Transition to Scale (TTS) program: funding between $300,000 CAD up to $1,500,000 CAD. Application is ongoing. 

NRC IRAP’s AI Assist program supports Canadian SMEs in undertaking scientific research, product development, testing and validation of AI technologies. 

Opportunity Calgary Investment Fund: provides grant funding primarily for projects focusing on economic diversification, technology-driven innovations, skill training, programs and initiatives.

Alberta Carbon Capture Incentive Program (ACCIP) will support and accelerate the development of new carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) infrastructure by providing incentives for facilities to incorporate this technology into their operations.

Strategic Networking & Development: with up to $25,000 in funding, supports members of Alberta post-secondaries and not-for-profits who are leading events that focus on emerging technologies.

STEM Youth Awareness Program will open later this year Approved projects can be reimbursed for up to 100% of eligible associated costs.
