Description

The Artist in Residence Program is intended for individual artists to participate in residencies and New Brunswick public or private institutions and organizations to host professional artists, and enable them to pursue specific projects relating to their creative work. The artists in residence are also to contribute to the promotion and understanding of the arts by means of the artists’ contact with the clientele of the establishments. The Artist in Residence programs for artists are designed to:

  • Increase opportunities for New Brunswick professional artists to participate in residencies in New Brunswick or elsewhere; and
  • Facilitate creation, creative research, and/or networking opportunities, as well as encouraging artists’ contact with the clientele of the host institution or organization.

Eligible Applicants

In order to be eligible for artsnb funding, an applicant must:

  • Be a Canadian citizen, have an affiliation with a First Nation on Turtle Island, be a permanent resident of Canada or have an application for permanent resident in process;
  • Have resided in New Brunswick for at least one year (12 months) prior to the application deadline;
  • Must qualify as a professional artist: artsnb Definition of a Professional Artist.

Artists who present a project in a discipline other than the one in which they normally operate must have at least one presentation or work in that discipline in a professional context.

Eligible Expenses

  • For residencies taking place less than 150km away from the applicant’s residence, eligible expenses include:
    • Up to $2,000 per month for subsistence (living allowance) and project expenses
  • For residencies taking place more than 150km away from the applicant’s residence, eligible expenses include:
    • Up to $3,000 per month for subsistence (living allowance) and project expenses (including materials, services, artist fees for artistic collaborators, etc.)
      • Note: If the host organization provides housing, this must be disclosed as an in-kind contribution in the project budget.
    • Up to $1,000 for transportation and accommodation during travel to and from the residency location
      • Transportation includes costs for bus, plane, train, taxis, or travel in a personal vehicle; tolls and parking; and freight or cargo expenses.
      • Accommodation includes hotel costs OR $25 per night billeting allowance if the applicant is hosted by family, friends, or a host organization.

Deadline Date

Open and closes. (January 1, March 1, May 1, July 1, September 1, November 1) annually.
