The LEAD Program is supporting students who are working to reduce gender discrimination in their communities, or who are studying in fields where their gender is traditionally underrepresented. The program is a consolidation of 2 funding streams: the previously announced Women in STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) Award stream, and the Persons Case Scholarship stream.
The program is composed of two streams:
- Persons Case Scholarship (PCS)
The Persons Case Scholarship was established to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the “Persons Case”. There are 40 awards of $2,500 available for this stream. - Women in STEM Award
The Women in STEM Award will support young women to reach their career goals. There are 50 awards of $2,500 available for this stream.
Eligible Applicants
Eligible applicants under Persons Case Scholarship (PCS):
- can be any gender; are a Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident or Protected Person
- are an Alberta resident
- can be any age
- must have student status:
- undergraduates must be a registered (full or part-time) student in an approved Alberta post-secondary institution
- graduates must be an Alberta resident (as described above) and be registered (full or part-time) in a graduate program in Alberta or elsewhere
Indigenous students, racialized students and students living with a disability are strongly encouraged to apply.
Eligible applicants under Women in STEM Award:
- identify as a woman studying in STEM
- are a Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident or Protected Person
- are an Alberta resident
- must be 30 years or younger by March 31, 2021
- must be a registered (full or part-time) student in an approved Alberta post-secondary institution
Indigenous women, racialized women and women living with a disability are strongly encouraged to apply.
Eligible Expenses
$225,000 is available through the program and 90 students will receive $2,500 each for their studies.
