Outreach Support Services Initiative Funding Information | Alberta Human Services


Approximately $82.6 million will be provided to community-based organizations (CBOs). These organizations provide funding to homeless serving agencies in seven cities in Alberta.

Calgary: $39.1 million

  • Permanent supportive housing programs for individuals and families impacted by severe addictions, medical and psychiatric diagnosis and having criminal justice involvement
  • High intensity case management will be provided for homeless individuals, youth and families who have severe addictions, medical and psychiatric diagnosis and criminal justice involvement

Edmonton: $26.3 million

  • Various programs including intensive case management teams that provide housing and support to individuals and families
  • Winter Emergency Response programs that provide additional support to emergency shelters during the cold winter months

Grande Prairie: $3.3 million

  • Permanent Supportive Housing for chronically homeless clients

Fort McMurray: $3.6 million

  • Housing programs that provide a place to live and offer support to address the underlying causes of homelessness by offering medical and psychiatric case management, life skills training, landlord liaison assistance, and addictions counselling
  • Winter Emergency Response System that provides a mat program during cold weather

Red Deer: $3.5 million

  • Shelter Triage program, which administers a housing assessment tool for homeless individuals before transferring them to Housing First programs

Lethbridge: $4.1 million

  • Housing First programs, including wrap around supports that address the causes of homelessness so individuals can work toward building healthier and independent lives
  • Research and analysis activities to better understand program effectiveness and set priorities

Medicine Hat: $2.8

  • Permanent supportive housing programs and rapid re-housing programs providing short-term housing and support services for homeless individuals and families, and winter emergency services
