Healthy Eating: Stream 2 – Support for the Development and Modification of the Nutrient Value of Processed Foods│MAPAQ

Covers 60% of eligible expenses, up to a maximum of $150,000 per applicant for the duration of the program.

Description

Increase the number of foods of good nutritional quality, foods of improved nutritional value, foods of health value and foods reduced to food additives through projects to develop or improve nutritional quality.

Eligible Applicants

Businesses that fall into any of the following categories are eligible:

  • food processing companies;
  • companies that outsource;
  • businesses that have a central kitchen;
  • Groups of food processing companies.

These companies must also meet the following requirements:

  • be registered in the Québec enterprise register;
  • be located in Québec or have at least one establishment or branch located in Québec;
  • Carry out the processing of the food developed as part of the project in Quebec;
  • market, at a minimum, one food in Quebec.

Eligible Expenses

Financial assistance covers 60% of eligible expenses, up to a maximum of $150,000 per applicant for the duration of the program. The minimum eligible expenses are $10,000. A maximum increase of 10% in eligible expenditures may be granted for projects that address one of the following departmental or government priorities:

  • The development of a food of good nutritional quality (less than 15% of the daily value for sugar, sodium and saturated fat) and fortified with fibre (at least 7% of the daily value or a minimum of 2 g per reference amount);
  • One of the following improvements (to less than 15% of the Daily Value):
    • Reducing sugar in breakfast cereals or dairy products;
    • Sodium reduction in processed meats, deli meats, breads and sauces;
    • Reduction of saturated fats in processed meats.

Projects are submitted continuously until March 31, 2025.
