“The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago. The second best time is now.” — New fiscal year, new funding, new opportunities.

The Government Just Planted a $51 Billion Tree

Dear CEOs and Leaders,

Last week, the federal government announced the Build Communities Strong Fund — $51 billion over ten years for infrastructure across every province and territory. That’s $3 billion per year, ongoing.

Let me put that in perspective. The government is claiming that this is one of the largest single infrastructure investment in Canadian history. And it’s not just roads and bridges. This fund covers housing, health care, education, transit, climate adaptation, and community centres.

Here’s what matters to you: the Direct Delivery stream ($6 billion) is already accepting expressions of interest for shovel-ready projects. If you’ve been sitting on an infrastructure proposal — a building retrofit, a community facility, a climate adaptation project — this is your moment.

St. Albert, Alberta was among the first projects announced — expanding wastewater, stormwater, and water systems in the northeast. That tells you this fund isn’t just for big cities.

Meanwhile, PrairiesCan continues to roll out the Regional Tariff Response Initiative — a $1 billion program helping businesses impacted by tariffs to diversify, automate, and grow. Two rounds of Alberta funding were announced in March alone: $7 million for Edmonton businesses and $5.9 million for southern Alberta.

The government’s fiscal year just started April 1. New budgets. New programs. Fresh money flowing. If you’ve been waiting for the right time to apply — stop waiting.

Have a great week!

Sincerely,
David Kincade

“We won 3 employment related grants. One of the agencies came back to us when they had more money to give out. This course taught me a lot about the processes and procedures when putting together an application.”
