Don’t Give Up On Grants

Don’t Give Up in Grants

Hello Everyone,

I’m always trying to teach you about government grants.

Do you know where all grants begin?

Take a guess?

Answer: election platforms.

When candidates are running for office, they say, “I want to do X.”

Once they win, the elected politicians look at each other and say, “wow we won!”

Then they say, “how are we going to do “X”?

One of the most popular tools they use to fulfill their promises is government grants.

They “dangle carrots” (i.e. $$$ called grants) to entrepreneurs or non-profits and say, “can you solve this problem?”

The entrepreneurial ecosystem should then kick into gear.

That is the theory anyway.

Here are the key lessons:

  • When should you influence government policy? When the government is already formed? Maybe. But a much better time is when the candidates are looking for input on their election platforms!
  • You need to be ready when the grant competitions open. I use LivePlan for my clients. It’s amazing.
  • When new governments get elected, they change grants, so you need to be watching and apply fast.
A recent example of this happened with Energy Efficiency Alberta. The announcement has been taken down. Next time I’ll use a screenshot!

BIG PROGRESS!!

I’ve had a couple clients make big progress this week.

The first pertained to persistence. After completing a VIP Grant Calendar for them, I’ve been helping them secure the funds. After initially getting stalled, they are well on their way to having a system in place to win grants EVERY YEAR! Hello return on investment.

Next, I have another client getting close to winning an employee grant that will – wait for it – cover 100% of the salary for a year! You read that correctly. If you’re interested in learning which grant I’m talking about so you can win it, sign up to my paid newsletter. I share all these grants (and more) there.

These examples remind me of one major important lesson in grants: don’t give up.

Success in grants can be measured in months, even years sometimes.

In the video blow, I give you a couple of real-life examples about the importance of “just keep going” in grants.

Tip of the Week

If the grant agency hasn’t contacted you when you expected, you should call them. The grant agency’s correspondence might be in your junk folder. It happens.
