Beef Herd Renewal and Improvement Program | Government of New Brunswick

Description

The objective of this program is to grow, renew and improve the New Brunswick beef cow herd.

Eligible Applicants

All beef farms are eligible for financial incentives if they meet the following conditions:

  • Premises on which the farming activities occur must be located in New Brunswick.
  • An individual representing the applicant farm operation must have attained the legal age of 19 in the province of New Brunswick.
  • Applicants must be compliant with the Livestock Operations Act or have a license application or renewal in process. In the case of license application or renewal, the Registrar under the Livestock Operations Act should be consulted to ensure that no major limitations to the issuance of a license exist.
  • No current or former public office holder, public servant, Member of the Legislative Assembly or Member of the House of Commons who is not in compliance with applicable conflict of interest guidelines and legislation shall derive any benefit from
    this program.
  • Applicants must be members in good standing with the New Brunswick Cattle Producers. The annual producer registration
    form must be submitted.
  • Retained Bred Heifers must be kept for a minimum of 1 year unless culled for health or production reasons.

Eligible Expenses

  • Basic Herd Growth
    • Applicants will be eligible for financial assistance of $300 per retained bred heifer above the usual 5% replacement rate. Eligible numbers of heifers will be determined based on current mature cow numbers, defined as cows that have already had at least one calf. Eligible heifers will be those heifers above 5% of mature cow numbers. All retained heifers must be confirmed pregnant by a veterinarian or presented for veterinarian confirmation as a heifer with her newborn calf.
  • Gonomic testing Premium
    • Applicants will be eligible for financial assistance of $100 per retained bred heifer that has been genomically tested The maximum assistance will be $3,000 per farm.
