1. Agriculture

RDAR – Producer Research and Evaluation Program is still open for applications. Receive up to $20,000 per project to complete on-farm research.

Protein Industries Canada will be investing $30 million into these artificial intelligence projects, benefiting the plant-based and agrifood sector. Expressions of interest will be accepted until Aug. 30, 2024 or until all funds are fully committed.

UFA Agricultural Community Foundation is pleased to present the 2024 Rural Communities Grant. Receive up to a total of $100,000 funding. Deadline: August 31, 2024.

Genomic Applications Partnership Program (GAPP): Total Funding Available: $6,000,000. Expression of Interest/Project Pitch Video Submission: Spring, 2025.

AgriMarketing Program: is oversubscribed, and currently out of funding for applications. There will be second intake for applications in the Spring of 2025. Stay tuned for more details.

AFPA’s Food Futures Program: – Alberta Business Grants: wage subsidies of up to $5,000 for temporary work experience placements. This funding concludes Sep 30, 2025. 

Canadian Agricultural Strategic Priorities Program: access up to $1M funding per year up to five years. Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis until the end of the program on March 31, 2029.

Water Pumping Program – Provides assistance to producers in securing adequate water supplies for domestic, livestock or agricultural purposes.

Rural Electric Grant Program (REGP) assists farmers financially to access a basic, essential service at a reasonable cost and aids in the diversification of our rural economy.

Venture-Capital Ready: This fully funded investment training program is specifically designed for established food businesses throughout Canada. Register now.

Farm fuel and rural utility programs: Funding and programs to assist rural Albertans with essential services at a reasonable cost. Learn more.

Farm Technology Program and Efficient Grain Handling Program: expected to resume in Year 2 of the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (Sustainable CAP).

Value-Added Program. Invests in projects that increase company sales and production capacity, expand market opportunities and create jobs in Alberta. Stream A – Application window will close when funds are fully utilized and may reopen if new funds become available.

On-Farm Value-Added Program. Helps primary producers grow sales, expand production capacity, explore market opportunities and create jobs in Alberta. Stream A – Application window will close when funds are fully utilized and may reopen if new funds become available.

FCC’s Sustainability Incentive Program: receive one payment per year at a maximum of $2,000. Most of the programs are now open!

Canada Brand is open to export-ready, registered Canadian business entities that have a role in producing, promoting or supporting Canadian agriculture, food or seafood products.

Agri-Processing Investment Tax Credit (APITC) provides a 12% non-refundable tax credit when corporations invest $10 million or more in a project to build or expand a value-added agri-processing facility in Alberta.

Emerging Opportunities Program provides maximum grant funding to a project up to $2,000,000 funding.

Resilient Agricultural Landscape Program (RALP): program funding up to $300,000. Applications will be accepted and reviewed on a continuous basis within each intake cycle year.

The Water Program supports agricultural water management by helping primary producers adopt agriculture water better management practices and priority actions.

African Swine Fever Industry Preparedness Program: Prevention and Preparedness Stream: access up to $1M funding. Deadline: November 30, 2024.

African Swine Fever Industry Preparedness Program: Welfare Slaughter and Disposal Stream: access up to $1M funding. Deadline: November 30, 2024.

Food Innovation Challenge – Cultivating a resilient food future: Developing the end-to-end Cellular Food capacity for Canadian global leadership. May open in 2025.

AgriAssurance Program – National Industry Association Component: AAFC will contribute up to $1 million grant per year. Application is ongoing until September 30, 2027; however, the application period may close sooner if funding has been fully committed.

AgriAssurance Program – Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Component: AAFC contribution toward a project up to $50,000. Application is ongoing until September 30, 2027; however, the application period may close sooner if funding has been fully committed.

AgriInnovate Program: funding up to $5,000,000. Applications is ongoing until the end of the program on March 31, 2028, or until funding has been fully committed.

Agricultural Clean Technology Program: Program funding for the Research and Innovation Stream is $50 million. Program ends March 31, 2028.

Supply Management Processing Investment Fund contributes up to $5 million in non-repayable contribution to an organization over the life of the program until March 31, 2028.

Market Development Program for Turkey and Chicken: The program will provide over $44 million to the sector over the next 10 years.

Poultry and Egg On-Farm Investment Program (PEFIP): provides non-repayable contributions of almost $759 million over 10 years. Applications will be accepted until March 31, 2030.

NEW! Visual Arts and New Media Individual Project Funding: provides up to $18,000 to support development of individual Alberta artists, arts administrators, or an ensemble of artists. Deadline: September 3, 2024, March 3, 2025. 

NEW! CMF’s Sector Development Support: project-based funding up to $100,000 to support industry initiatives that demonstrate the potential to positively impact Canada’s screen sector ecosystem. Deadline: October 18, 2024. 

Collective Initiatives – Canada Periodical Fund: annual amount for a project is $500,000, or 75% of total eligible project-related costs. Deadline: August 30, 2024.

Springboard Grant: total funding envelope of $100,000 is available. Deadline: September 3, 2024.

ISCP Residency in New York Funding: up to $15,000 for one three-month residency. Deadline: September 3, 3024.

Dance Individual Project Funding: provides up to $18,000 funding. Deadlines: September 3, 2024; March 3, 2025.

Literary Individual Project Funding provides up to $18,000 to support the development of individual Alberta artists, arts administrators, or an ensemble of artists. Deadline: September 3, 2024; March 3, 2025.

Indigenous Arts Individual Project Funding: provides up to $18,000. Deadlines: September 3, 2024, March 3, 2025. 

Community-Run Public Art Microgrant Program – apply for up to $15,000 in funding. Funding is available for up to 30 projects. Deadline is September 4, 2024.

Innovation & Experimentation Program: Projects funded are Canadian interactive digital media content and software applications, up to $1.5million funding. Deadline: September 10, 2024.

Commercial Projects Program is to fund projects that have a greater probability of commercial success.  Access up to $1.5million funding. Second opening date is September 10 – 17, 2024.

Original Peoples Investment Program is now available. Application is now open until September 18, 2024.

Translation component of Arts Across Canada: funds up to $25,000 for each translation, plus an Annual Supplement for targeted costs. Next deadline: September 25, 2024.

Canada Media Fund – Digital Creators Pilot Program: awards up to $20,000 in funding to each successful applicant. Deadline: September 26, 2024.

Digital Creators Pilot Program is designed to support the growth trajectory of mid-career Canadian digital content creators. Deadline: September 26, 2024.

Community Performing Arts Organizations Operating Funding: provides annual funding to eligible not-for-profit community organizations that self-create and self-produce performing art productions. Deadline: October 1, 2024.

Podium Alberta: Provides funding to Alberta’s high-performance athletes to help cover costs related to training, equipment and living expenses. Deadline: October 7, 2024.

Major Sport Event Grant Program: Up to $250,000 funding available. Intake 2 Deadline: October 15, 2024.

Sector Innovation and Development component of Supporting Artistic Practice: access up to $50 000. Project grants Deadline: October 16, 2024.

CMF – Broadcaster Envelope Program: English and French. Deadline: October 17, 2024. 

Circulation and Touring component of Arts Across Canada: funds up to 50% of eligible costs, to a maximum of $200 000. Deadline: October 30, 2024.

Alberta Music Travel Grant provides travel assistance to Alberta-based music companies, artists and individuals. Deadline: October 31, 2024.

Future Focus Program: There is a total of $400,000 available through the program in 2024. Deadlines:  November 1, 2024.

Artist – Driven Organizations component of the Explore and Create program: The Canada Council for the Arts has extended the deadline from January 2024 to the spring of 2025.

Community Support Organizations Operating Funding – supports arts programs and services to communities. Deadline: March 3, 2025.

Canada Cultural Spaces Fund supports the improvement of physical conditions for arts, heritage culture and creative innovation. Application is ongoing.

Sport Support Program supports the development of the Canadian sport system. Funding is provided to eligible organizations for programming that is aligned with the goals of the Canadian Sport Policy.

Hosting Program assists sport organizations to host the Canada Games and international sport events in Canada. 

Research and Creation component of Explore and Create: provides up to $25,000. Submit your application anytime before the start of your project.

Limited Support to Endangered Arts Organizations – Canada Cultural Investment Fund: access up to $250,000 funding. Application is ongoing.

Film and Television Tax Credit offers a refundable Alberta tax credit on eligible production costs. Applicants may apply for either a 22% or 30% tax credit rate.

Movable Cultural Property Grants help designated organizations acquire cultural property of outstanding significance and national importance to Canada. Application is ongoing.

The Events component of the Community Support, Multiculturalism, and Anti-Racism Initiatives Program provides funding to community-based events.

Arts, culture and sports grants search: Find funding opportunities for projects in the areas of arts, culture, community, heritage, recreation, sport, and diversity and inclusion.

Legacy Fund – Building Communities through Arts and Heritage: access up to a maximum of $500,000.

Video program: A maximum of $40,000 in video funding is available per qualifying release per fiscal year, across all programs. Apply multiple times throughout the year.

Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit (CPTC) provides eligible productions with a fully refundable tax credit, available at a rate of 25 per cent of the qualified labour expenditure. applications on an ongoing basis.

3. Employment

BioTalent Canada’s for SWPP 2024-2025: now accepting Fall 2024 term placements. Deadline: December 6, 2024; Next term: Winter 2025 term placements – February 28, 2025.

YMCA Summer Work Student Exchange (SWSE): Applications are open for the 2025 summer exchange program!  

Young Canada Works (YCW) offers a variety of short-term job and internship programs to job seekers and employers. Learn more. 

Electricity Human Resources Canada’s (EHRC) Discovering Potential Program: provide subsidies of up to $24,000 to employers. Application is ongoing. End Date: March 31, 2025.

Alberta is Calling! Moving Bonus Program will give  $5,000 refundable tax credit to eligible skilled tradespersons who move to Alberta between May 1, 2024 and December 31, 2024. Eligible applicants can start applying on May 1, 2025.

Wage Earner Protection Program (WEPP): provides timely payment of eligible wages owing to workers whose employer has gone bankrupt or become subject to receivership.

Industry Commercialization Associates – Receive up to $120,000 to help cover the salary for employees to promote the commercialization of your business. Application is open.

Science & Technology Internship Program (STIP) – Green Jobs: Up to 75% in wage subsidies are available for employers. Apply through delivery organization.

Eco Canada – Digital Skills for Youth Program (DS4Y):  eligible Employers Receive 80% Wage Coverage Up To $18,000.

Women’s Employment Skills Training (WEST): a 9 week program, specially tailored to empower women and provide them with a comprehensive introduction to essential careers within the aviation industry.

Science Horizons Youth Internship Program: wage subsidies up to $25,000. Applications for 2024-2025 intake are open!

Clean Tech Internships: Up to $30,000 is available to cover 80% of an intern’s salary, training and wrap-around service costs. Applications are now open!

Alberta Advantage Immigration Program: New Law Enforcement Pathway in the Alberta Express Entry Stream.

University of Calgary- Schulich School of Engineering is pleased to introduce a paid internship program for Master of Engineering (MEng) students.

GRIT (Get Ready in Trades) is a trades-focused career exploration and development program created for youth with disabilities and barriers to success. Application is ongoing.

Autism Calgary – Spectrum Advantage: a 4 month program that assists all participants with soft skill development and also includes financial assistance to participants.

DiversityWorks: employers are eligible to receive financial support to train and hire new employees.

Lifemark is currently accepting applications for our Empower – Edmonton, Empower – Calgary, WORKforce, CARES, and ReadySetWORK programs. Learn more.

Career and Employment Services – Strive 2 is a customized program to help individuals address and resolve their identified barriers, develop skills and secure/maintain employment.

Strive 4 Work: Fall intake will resume September 9, 2024. Apply and receive a living allowance of $15/hour while participating skills training.

FIRST (First Industrial Research, Science, or Technology) Jobs placement program: waitlist is currently open. Register now!

Work-Sharing Program helps employers and employees avoid layoffs, when there is a temporary decrease in the normal level of business activity that is beyond the control of the employer.

Compensation for Employers of Reservists Program: applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.

Computers for Schools Intern (CFSI) program seeks to enhance the employability and marketability of youth through internships. Application is ongoing.

TECHNATION’s Career Ready Program: An increased subsidy of 70% (to a maximum of $7000.00) is awarded to employers hiring students from under-represented groups

Canadian Benefit for Parents of Young Victims of Crime: eligible parents with payments of $500 per week, paid every 2 weeks, for a maximum of 35 weeks over a period of 3 years.

Career Starter wage subsidy open for a limited time. Get up to $15k to hire young talent.

Canada-Alberta Job Grant: up to 100% of training costs could be covered, up to $15,000 per trainee.

The Student Work Placement Program gives post-secondary students across Canada paid work experience related to their field of study. Apply for wage subsidies through one of the following funding recipients find here.

Environmental Jobs Growth Program: eligible employers receive up to $18,750 in wage funding. Application is open.

The Apprenticeship Incentive Grant (AIG) helps you pay for expenses while you train as an apprentice in a designated Red Seal trade. Learn more.

Cybersecurity Training and Work Integrated Learning Program: employers can access a wage subsidy up to $7,000.

The Canadian Conservation Institute (CCI) offers paid postgraduate internships for one-year appointments. Learn more.

International Youth Internship Program (IYIP) offers Canadian youth to gain professional experience abroad in the field of international development. More internship opportunities are coming in 2024.

Industrial Facility track – Green Industrial Facilities and Manufacturing Program: receive up to a maximum of $10 million per proposal. Deadline: August 30, 2024.

Solar panel recycling challenge: This challenge will be seeking recycling solutions for solar panels at any time during their entire lifecycle. Deadline: September 3, 2024.

Zero emissions technologies for industrial process heating challenge. Aplication is now open until September 5, 2024.

2 Billion Trees Program ongoing call for proposals – Apply by September 19, 2024, for a decision by March 2025.

Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program funding for owners and operators of charging and refuelling infrastructure:  maximum of 5 million dollars ($5,000,000) per project. Deadline: September 19, 2024.

Energy Innovation Program – Renewable Energy Demonstrations Call. Application is now open! Funding request up to $4,000,000. Deadline: Stream 2 – September 26, 2024.

Aboriginal Fund for Species at Risk supports the development of Indigenous capacity to participate actively in the implementation of the Species at Risk Act (SARA). Application for 2025-2026 will open in the fall of 2024.

Calling all energy innovators: showcase your groundbreaking ideas, technologies, and sustainable energy projects at DEF2024 Whistler Pitcher Competition. Deadline: October 3, 2024. 

FCM’s Tree Planting – Funding for ambitious and equitable tree planting projects. Access up to a maximum of $10 million in project funding. Deadline: October 15, 2024.

City of Edmonton’s Change Homes for Climate Solar Rebate Program: Get a maximum of $100,000 total rebate per property owner per calendar year. Application is first-come, first-serve basis. Eligible systems must be installed with documentation submitted by December 16, 2024.

Alberta Land Trust Grant Program helps establish and administer new conservation easements. Check back for updates in late 2024.

Emissions Reduction Advancement Program: An industry-funded program established under the Clean Fuel Regulations that will support projects that reduce short term GHG emissions in Canada. More details will be available later in 2024.

Green Freight Program: Stream 1 (Assess and Retrofit): is providing grant funding up to a maximum of $250,000. Continuous intake basis until March 31, 2027.

Ecosystem Development Partnership Program: Building Alberta’s entrepreneurial ecosystem and creating competitive advantage through collaboration.

Clean economy investment tax credits (ITCs): your business may be eligible for tax credits for investments in Canada that support the transition to net zero emissions.

Bioenergy and Circular Economy: supports projects focused on renewable fuels, waste conversion and building a circular economy in plastics. Application is ongoing.

Critical Minerals and Emerging Tech: Supports development of next-generation materials, critical minerals, and end products for a better minerals and materials industry. Application is ongoing.

Renewable and Alternative Energy Program: This program invests in projects to develop and deploy clean technologies to benefit Albertans and contribute to the province’s low-carbon economy.

Methane Emissions Reduction Program supports technologies that detect, monitor, and mitigate methane emissions reductions from Alberta’s oil and gas industry. Application is ongoing.

Recovery Technologies program advances technologies that improve hydrocarbon recovery while reducing associated emissions.

Remote Area Heating Allowance (RAHA) program: currently scheduled to expire March 31, 2026. Rebates to Albertans of up to 25% of the cost of fuel.

Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) and Hydrogen Program invests in projects to adapt, develop, and deploy innovative clean technologies.

AMEP technology development trials funding is to expedite the commerciality of new technologies. grant is up to 100% of the cost.

Alberta Petrochemicals Incentive Program provides grants to companies to attract investment in new or expanded market-driven petrochemical facilities.

Clean Energy for Rural and Remote Communities Program: still accepting applications under these streams: Biomass heating, district heating, and combined heat and power systems and Research, Development, and Demonstration projects.

Low Carbon Economy Leadership Fund provides funding directly to provinces and territories to help them reduce carbon pollution, meet Canada’s 2030 climate target, and support our goal of net-zero emissions by 2050.

2024 Transformation Competition: access up to $4,000,000 per year (including indirect costs). Full application deadline: September 5, 2024.

Europe – Eurostars call for proposals application deadline: September 12, 2024.

Canadian critical minerals research and development partnering delegation to France. Deadline: September 17, 2024.

The Trade Accelerator Program (TAP) is an innovative initiative, designed to accelerate the strategic development of your business and to better prepare you for expansion into international markets.

6. Indigenous 

NEW! Advanced Manufacturing Homebuilding Challenge – NGen is targeting a co-investment with industry of up to 200 M$ in projects. Deadline: Project Screening – September 13, 2024.

NEW! Our Built Together program helps Albertans build spaces for active living in their community. Grant awards up to $50,000. Deadline: September 17, 2024. 

NEW! The Green and Inclusive Community Buildings program is accepting applications. Total eligible costs up to $25million. Deadline: October 16, 2024. 

NEW! The First Nation Infrastructure Fund (FNIF) supports the delivery of on-reserve infrastructure that falls under the Other Community Infrastructure program. Deadline: Fall of each year. 

NEW! Northern and Regional Economic Development Program: up to to support eligible project costs. Application opens September 16 until December 6, 2024. 

Indigenous Arts Individual Project Funding: provides up to $18,000. Deadlines: September 3, 2024, March 3, 2025.

Sustainable Jobs Stream – Canadian Apprenticeship Strategy – Union Training and Innovation Program: Up to $10,000,000 per project. Deadline: September 5, 2024.

New Horizons for Seniors Program – Community-based projects (up to $25,000). Deadline: September 12, 2024. 

Baseline Funding stream – Canada Public Transit Fund: aims to improve public transit accessibility and reliability, encouraging cleaner transportation options. EOI Deadline: September 16, 2024.

First Nations Environmental Contaminants Program: funding to help First Nations communities improve their health. Deadline to submit your proposal is September 27, 2024.

National Housing Strategy Research and Planning Fund: access up to $250,000 for up to 24 months to plan, undertake and share research related to affordable housing in Canada. Deadline: September 27, 2024. 

FCM’s Tree Planting – Funding for ambitious and equitable tree planting projects. Access up to a maximum of $10 million in project funding. Deadline: October 15, 2024.

Watershed Resiliency and Restoration Program is now open for 2024-25. Deadline: September 15, 2024.

Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program funding for owners and operators of charging and refuelling infrastructure:  maximum of 5 million dollars ($5,000,000) per project. Deadline: September 19, 2024.

Alberta Community Partnership: with 2024-25 ACP budget is $15.4 million. Deadlines: Intermunicipal collaboration and Municipal internship: October 1, 2024; Municipal restructuring: January 15, 2025; Mediation and cooperative processes: February 3, 2025;

Enabling Accessibility Fund – Youth Innovation Component – funding program. Deadline: October 4, 2024.

The Indigenous Reconciliation Initiative provides funding up to $100,000. Application is now ongoing through 2 intake periods: 2nd Intake Deadline: October 31, 2024.

Tree Canada – Edible Trees program: Eligible projects receive up to $10,000 in funding. Grant applications are accepted from October to early December the year before project implementation. 

Critical Minerals Infrastructure Fund – Indigenous Grants Program. Deadline: December 31, 2024.

Codes Acceleration Fund (for Indigenous applications only): A total of $100 million available to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption to fight climate change. Application until March 31, 2027 or until funds are exhausted.

The Bitumen Partial Upgrading program supports technologies that enhance the value of a processed barrel of bitumen while reducing associated emissions.

Alberta Digital Literacy Program: free, self-guided program available to anyone looking to build or improve their existing digital literacy skills.

Genomic Applications Partnership Program (GAPP): Total Funding Available: $6,000,000. Expression of Interest/Project Pitch Video Submission: Spring, 2025.

Ideation Fund enables NRC researchers to explore transformative research ideas in collaboration with external partners such as academic institutions and small and medium-sized enterprises. Calls for NRC proposals open annually in May.

13. Government Update

Governments of Canada and Alberta announce the renewal of the Canada Community-Building Fund for the next ten years. 

Wildfire Recovery Actions: Residents affected by mandatory evacuation orders that exceed a minimum of seven days are eligible for one-time emergency evacuation payments of $1,250 for each adult and $500 for each child under the age of 18
