The British Columbia Indigenous Clean Energy Initiative (BCICEI) provides support and capacity-building funds to Indigenous communities working on the development of clean energy projects.

BCICEI funding will enable the implementation of cost-effective clean energy and energy efficiency projects through support for:

  • Community Energy Planning
  • Feasibility and site selection activities
  • Environmental review and permitting
  • Project design and engineering
  • Clean Energy (Self-Generation)
  • Demand side management
  • Pre-construction/ Pre-Commercial Operation Date

Eligible Applicants

  • B.C. First Nations
  • Tribal Councils
  • Indigenous for profit and not-for-profit corporations, partnerships, associations, co-operatives, institutions, and other legal entities which are majority owned and controlled by First Nation communities (for example, economic development corporations).

The proposed project must be located in B.C.

Eligible Expenses

Eligible costs are goods, services, professional, and technical costs required to plan and conduct project activities. Costs must be directly incurred and incremental, including, but not limited to:

  • Professional and technical services (e.g. engineering)
  • Contract labour and equipment for project construction, including site preparation
  • Training costs directly related to the construction and/or the operations and maintenance of the project
  • Overhead costs (e.g. administrative costs, office supplies, printing) below 10% of the funding awarded
  • Project Management costs below 10% of the funding awarded
  • Travel costs proportionate to the scale of the project and location
  • Any other costs deemed reasonable and required to complete the project

Applications will be accepted until Monday, March 17th, 2025, 4:00pm PST
