The ASAQ program covers a portion of the cost of veterinary services for the benefit of agricultural producers.

Description

The ASAQ program covers a portion of the cost of veterinary services for the benefit of agricultural producers. It also offers measures to promote the recruitment and retention of veterinarians, particularly in slower density regions. It provides financial assistance to veterinarians who work in designated veterinary establishments.

This program aims to:

  • to promote animal health;
  • improve animal health;
  • facilitate access to curative care and preventive veterinary services as well as veterinary drugs;
  • improve knowledge of the health status of livestock by collecting data on epidemiological surveillance;
  • ensure the availability of veterinary services in the regions;
  • Provide financial assistance to new veterinarians who wish to practice in the regions.

Eligible Applicants

Agricultural producers.

Eligible Expenses

The Government of Quebec assumes, for the benefit of agricultural producers, a portion of the cost of the services performed by veterinarians registered under the ASAQ Agreement. In addition, it also covers part of the costs related to the use of specialized services provided by the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Université de Montréal.

Various assistance measures have been put in place for veterinarians who wish to provide services to agricultural producers in remote areas:

  • distance allowance paid to the veterinarian;
  • replacement of a veterinarian for leave;
  • a distancing allowance paid to a veterinary assistance establishment;
  • bonus for the next generation;
  • relaxation of certain rules concerning the calculation of distances travelled by the veterinarian;
  • Relief measure for the maintenance of continuous services in the designated region.
