Regional Artificial Intelligence Initiative in British Columbia

Interest-free non-repayable contributions of $500,000 to $5 million per project.

Description

The Regional Artificial Intelligence Initiative funds:

  • businesses that are commercializing or adopting artificial intelligence (AI) solutions in B.C.
  • not-for-profit organizations that are supporting AI commercialization or adoption and ecosystem development in B.C.

 

Intake will focus on the following:

  • businesses with projects to support AI commercialization
  • not-for-profit organizations with projects that help develop the AI ecosystem in B.C., particularly those that bring AI commercialization activities together with AI adoption activities

Eligible Applicants

Incorporated businesses can apply for repayable funding from the Regional Artificial Intelligence Initiative if they:

  • have operated as an incorporated business in B.C. for at least 1 year
  • operate staffed facilities in B.C.
  • employ between 3 and 500 full time equivalent employees

 

The following legally incorporated organizations can apply for non-repayable funding:

  • not-for-profits including industry associations and post-secondary institutions
  • Indigenous organizations including Indigenous-led not-for-profit organizations, Indigenous governments, Indigenous Development Corporations and Indigenous-controlled businesses proposing projects that will benefit their communities
  • B.C. municipalities, municipal-type organizations, provincial organizations or Crown corporations as long as funding is not used for capital or ongoing organizational requirements

Eligible Expenses

Funding can cover essential project costs including:

  • wages and benefits
  • equipment and machinery
  • marketing
  • technology development and commercial demonstration costs (Technology Readiness Level 7-9)
  • intellectual property costs
  • professional, advisory and technical services

Deadline Date

Not-for-profit organizations should submit expressions of interest by February 14, 2025 to be considered.
