Description

The New Brunswick Athlete Assistance Program (NBAAP) is a sport funding program that provides direct financial assistance to New Brunswick high-performance athletes who have achieved significant results at the national and/or international level, or have demonstrated a strong potential to earn a spot on a junior or senior national team.

Eligible Applicants

To be eligible to be considered for support through the NBAAP, an athlete must:

  • be a member in good standing with a Provincial Sport Organization (PSO);
  • be actively competing in national and/or international competitions;
  • be participating in a year-round competitive and training program;
  • be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada;
  • be a New Brunswick athlete.

Eligible Expenses

The NBAAP Tier Guide will be used to identify eligible athletes for financial support. To remain eligible for support, athletes may be required to provide a report of their activities and successes when submitting subsequent funding requests.

  • Tier 1 ($6,000)
    • Carded athletes who have been selected to compete for Canada at the Olympic/Paralympic Games or Senior World Championship in a recognized Olympic/Paralympic discipline.
  • Tier 2 ($4,000)
    • Carded athletes (SR, C1, D) who currently do not meet Tier 1 qualifications.
    • Non-carded athletes who have been selected to compete for Canada at a Senior or Junior World Championship in sport disciplines that are eligible for Sport Canada carding.
    • Non-carded athletes who have been selected to compete for Canada at Pan American/Parapan-American or Commonwealth Games.
  • Tier 3 ($3,000)
    • Non-carded athletes who have been selected to compete for Canada internationally as part of a recognized senior national team program in sport disciplines that are eligible for Sport Canada carding.
    • Athletes training to become re-carded in a recognized national team program (up to 1-year).
    • Athletes who have attended a Junior World Championship the previous year and are part of the NextGen or Senior National team training pool of athletes.
  • Tier 4 ($1,500)
    • Athletes, in sports NOT eligible for Sport Canada carding, who have been selected to compete at a Senior or Junior World Championship as part of a recognized national team program.
    • Athletes who have achieved significant results at the national level and have demonstrated a strong potential to earn a position on the senior national team within 2-3 years in sports that are eligible for Sport Canada carding.
    • Non-carded athletes who have been selected to compete for Canada internationally as part of a recognized junior national team program in sport disciplines that are eligible for Sport Canada carding.
  • Tier 5 ($750)
    • Athletes who have achieved significant results at the national level and have demonstrated a strong potential to earn a position on the junior national team within 2 years in sport disciplines that are eligible for Sport Canada carding.
    • Athletes who have been selected by their NSO as NextGen athletes or part of the Senior National team pool of athletes.

Deadline Date

Athletes may apply at any time, but only once per fiscal year (between April 1 and March 31).
