Every year, the CRTC hires one or more articling students to work in our Legal Sector.

It’s an exciting opportunity to work with over 30 lawyers who provide legal services to the CRTC on a broad range of telecom and broadcasting issues. They’re a busy group that deals with everything from interpreting and implementing legislation, to advising CRTC staff and members about policy decisions, to questioning participants at CRTC public hearings.

Eligible Applicants

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Is keenly interested in administrative and communications law
  • Has superior communications skills, and excels at legal research and writing
  • Will work well as part of our legal team in a highly collaborative environment
  • Intends to be licensed with the Law Society of Ontario or Barreau du Québec

Eligible Expenses

Your year at the CRTC will give you:

  • Invaluable hands-on experience in administrative and communications law.
  • The chance to work with lawyers, CRTC members, and other staff dedicated to ensuring that Canadians enjoy a world class communication system.
  • An in-depth understanding of the inner workings of a Canadian regulatory organization.
  • Exposure to the major issues and stakeholders in the Canadian communications industry.

You’ll participate in a wide range of activities, including:

  • Researching and preparing legal opinions
  • Helping prepare for, participate in, and follow up on CRTC public hearings
  • Preparing legal documents, including regulations, orders, and CRTC decisions and public notices
  • Oral and written advocacy on legal issues

You’ll also have a chance to participate in the CRTC’s many in-house tutorials and other training opportunities.

The application period for the 2026-2027 articling students is open until 27 May 2025, 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time.
