1. Agriculture

CAP programs are changing in Alberta and these changes will be in effect for the remainder of CAP which expires on March 31, 2023. Check out the programs availability.

AgriStability: Deadline for producers to enroll in the 2021 program year is extended to June 30, 2021.

The Deep Space Food Challenge seeks to create novel food production technologies or systems for long-duration space missions, and which have the potential to benefit people on Earth. Deadline: July 30, 2021.

Mandatory Isolation Support for Temporary Foreign Workers Program: 3-Day Hotel Quarantine Stream. Deadline:  August 31, 2021.

Step 2 of Agricultural Climate Solutions Program (ACS) is anticipated to launch in August 2021 and end in December 2021.

Canada’s Agricultural Clean Technology Program: Adoption Stream will contribute 50% up to $2 in non-repayable (grant) funding towards investments in commercially available clean technologies and processes. Learn more:

The Poultry and Egg On-Farm Investment Program (PEFIP) aims to help supply-managed poultry and egg producers adapt to market changes. PEFIP will provide non-repayable contributions of almost $647 million over 10 years.

2. Arts and Culture

The Canada Arts Training Fund (CATF) provides financial support for the ongoing operations of Canadian arts organizations that specialize in training artists for professional national or international artistic careers. Deadline: June 30, 2021.

Applicants may apply for up to $25,000 to support one-time projects which contribute to the vibrancy and vitality of Calgary’s arts sector through the Project Grant Program – Organizations. Deadline: July 12, 2021.

Summer School Project Funding supports organizations in delivering residence-based art summer schools. Deadline: July 15, 2021.

Alberta Made Production Grant covers 25% of eligible Alberta production costs to a maximum of $125,000. Application intake windows: July 2 to 16, 2021.

The Adapt and Innovate Stream support projects that enable nonprofit organizations to reimagine their organization’s business model in order to resume in-person, live experience opportunities. The maximum funding request is $75,000. Deadline: July 29, 2021.

The Stabilize Live Music Grant program is an unprecedented contribution to the live music sector that provides up to $25,000 fund. Deadline: August 31, 2021.

The Circulation and Touring component of Arts Across Canada funds generally up to 50% of eligible costs, to a maximum of $200 000.

Change Capital Project Grants provide funding to heritage organizations – up to $20,000, with no matching requirement. Applications now open through rolling intake for remainder of 2021.

3. Employment | Varies

Foresight’s Launch program helps you learn what it takes to compete and win in emerging markets – from developing a minimum viable product (MVP) to validating the business model to learning how to effectively communicate with investors and funding partners. Deadline: August 10th, 2021.

The Alberta Jobs Now program will provide up to $370 million to help private and non-profit businesses with job supports to get thousands of Albertans back to work. Deadline: First Intake – August 31, 2021; Second Intake- December 31, 2021.

Whether you have a pre-existing early stage startup that you want to take to the next level, or you have an idea that you want to turn into a reality, Next 36 can help. Earn up to $50,000 in seed capital for your venture. Applications for the next cohort open: August 2021.

Eco Canada’s Youth Employment in Natural Resources is now open. The program covers up to 80% of the salary for a young professional.

City of Calgary Reopening Grant, with $15.9 million in a growing list of municipal supports for Calgary’s business community, will start accepting applications for the grant program on July 2, 2021 until August 10, 2021 on a first come, first served basis.

Startup Lloydminster works to support entrepreneurs by offering business coaching, networking opportunities and professional learning events. Learn more:

4. Environment/CleanTech

Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEPIV) Request for Proposals (RFP) focusing on public places, on-street, multi-unit residential buildings, workplaces and light-duty vehicle fleets is still open until June 22, 2021.

Infrastructure Canada is currently accepting applications for retrofits and new building projects for community buildings through Green and Inclusive Community Buildings. Applications are being accepted on an ongoing basis for projects under $3 million and until July 6, 2021 for projects from $3 million to $25 million.

Round 7 – NGIF Innovation Challenge is a $5.5 million (CAD) call to accelerate clean technology solutions across the natural gas value chain. Deadline: July 8, 2021.

Up to $20 million available for new wood products, processes, technologies or applications through Canada’s Investments in Forest Industry Transformation (IFIT). Deadline: July 22, 2021.

Site Rehabilitation Program provides grants to oil field service contractors to perform well, pipeline, and oil and gas site closure and reclamation work. Fourth application period deadline: September 30, 2021.

Emissions Reduction Alberta’s new $150 million Shovel-Ready Challenge is now accepting applications. Deadline: December 22, 2021.

The Green Heat: Low Carbon Energy Generation for Heating Existing Buildings Test Drive will give innovators the opportunity to offer their developed solutions to address the challenge of retrofitting in Canadian Armed Forces facilities. Learn more:

Small and medium-size enterprises, as well as contractors, can now download the Program Guide for our Energy Savings for Business Program. With up to $55 million in funding available. Deadline: First-come, first-served basis.

5. Export

Canada – Brazil 2021-2022 collaborative industrial research and development Call for Proposals is extended. Check here:

Global Affairs Canada and the NRC-IRAP will be pleased to receive your application to participate in the “Virtual Greenhouse and Horticulture PDA Mission to China”. Deadline: August 15th, 2021.

Startup Global 2021 has officially launched! Apply to win from a prize pool of $75,000 cash and $100,000. Deadline: September 1, 2021.

Export Readiness – Micro Vouchers is now accepting new applications. You can apply for up to $20,000 to build and develop a strategic approach for expansion globally.

CanExport Community Investments program provides financial support to communities for their foreign direct investment (FDI) initiatives and activities. The application period for 2022 projects will take place in September-October 2021.

Creative Export Canada will accept new applications in the Fall 2021 for projects starting in 2022-2023.

6. Indigenous

Apply for a grant to help prevent youth gang involvement in your community through the Community Mobilization Grant. Time-limited grants of up to $50,000 are available for communities. Deadline: July 20, 2021.

Indigenous Agriculture and Food Systems Initiative aims to contribute to the Government of Canada’s commitment to reduce barriers for underrepresented groups and focus on building Indigenous Peoples’ capacity to succeed in agriculture. Deadline: July 31, 2021.

The Housing Supply Challenge: Round 2 – Getting Started is looking for proposals to reduce or remove barriers in the pre-development process. Initial Submission Deadline: August 25, 2021.

Eligible organizations can apply to Multiculturalism, Indigenous and Inclusion Grant (MIIG) Program for a maximum amount of $25,000. Deadline: September 1, 2021.

FIRE (Funding Indigenous Resurgence in Edmonton), an initiative of Edmonton Heritage Council, is designed to reignite First Nations, Métis, and Inuit traditional practices and protocols in connection to our lived heritage. Deadline: September 20, 2021.

Alberta Security Infrastructure Program will provide up to $10,000 to assist eligible applicants with training and security assessments, as well as up to $90,000 for security infrastructure. The initial call for grant applications will take place this fall.

7. Municipalities

Plan to hire your energy manager for next fiscal by securing funding now through the Municipal Energy Manager program. Simply sign the Funding Agreement by August 3, 2021, and hire your energy manager anytime before April 2022.

The Housing Supply Challenge: Round 2 – Getting Started is looking for proposals to reduce or remove barriers in the pre-development process. Initial Submission Deadline: August 25, 2021.

Get 50% of the pre-GST total cost to a maximum of $6,000 funding through the Electric Vehicles for Municipalities Program. Deadline: Ongoing.

Municipalities can access additional funding sources to receive rebates of up to $19,000 per passenger vehicle through the Incentives for Zero-Emission Vehicles (iZEV) Program. Learn more:

Sustainable Affordable Housing program offers $300 million initiative offers support to local affordable housing providers.

Accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles in your community with the Electric Vehicle Charging Program. Mark your calendar as this new program is expected to launch in Summer 2021.

The Smart Renewables and Electrification Pathways Program (SREPs) provides up to $964 million over four years for smart renewable energy and grid modernization projects.

Receive funding to install solar PV on municipal facilities or land to save on energy costs and reduce your environmental impact. Deadline: Ongoing.

8. Non-Profit

The Healthy Communities Initiative is a $31 million investment from the Government of Canada to transform public spaces in response to COVID-19. Round 2. Deadline: June 25, 2021.

U.S. Embassy in Canada’s Building Back Better program will provide fund ranges from USD$500 to $25,000 to support Canadian women entrepreneurs during the pandemic. Deadline: June 28, 2021.

Apply for a grant to help prevent youth gang involvement in your community through the Community Mobilization Grant. Time-limited grants of up to $50,000 are available for communities. Deadline: July 20, 2021.

The NRC’s Outreach Initiative provides grant funding to support non-profit organizations or charities for a variety of science- or innovation-based initiatives or projects. Applications are accepted on a semi-annual basis. Learn more:

Enhanced Capacity Advancement Program provides funding for up to 3 years to Alberta-based capacity building non-profit organizations. The next multi-year funding cycle intake is anticipated for the fall of 2022. Prepare your proposal as the early as now.

9. Post Secondary | Varies

The Young Investigator grant offers up to $50,000 in direct costs per year for three years, demonstrating a commitment to a research career in pediatric cancer. Deadline: July 12, 2021.

SSHRC invites letters of interest from researchers wanting to participate in a virtual, interactive and interdisciplinary research design workshop taking place over two weeks at the end of October 2021. Deadline: July 16, 2021.

Connection Grants support events and outreach activities geared toward short-term, targeted knowledge mobilization initiatives. Deadline: August 1, 2021.

The Discovery Grants program supports ongoing programs of research with long-term goals rather than a single short-term project or collection of projects. Deadline notification of intent to apply: August 1, 2021.

The maximum amount that can be requested from NSERC Alliance grants in an Option 2 proposal has increased to $300,000 per year. Learn more:

The Ventures for Canada (VFC ) Externship helps leading startups enrich Alberta’s innovation ecosystem by exposing teams of interdisciplinary student volunteers from local colleges and universities to real-world business challenges.

10. Technology | Varies

Alberta Innovates will contribute up to $600,000 CAD to support approved projects under Accelerating Innovations into CarE (AICE) – Concepts. Application Registration Deadline: June 30, 2021.

Think you can solve our new hyper-spectral sensing challenge? The National Research Council (NRC) is seeking a solution to deliver femtosecond laser pulses. Deadline: July 23, 2021.

Accelerating Innovations into CarE (AICE) – Validate Program is now open.  Applications are competitively reviewed in batches throughout the year. Cut off dates for 2021: August 13, October 15.

Eligible applicants can apply for funding up to $100,000 to help cover the costs of up to three service providers for the purpose of business and technology development through Voucher. Deadline: Ongoing.

Deep Space Healthcare Challenge: CSA s looking for ideas and solutions that will help address healthcare challenges in remote Canadian communities, and eventually in deep space. Coming soon!

The Canadian SME Business Awards: Nominations for 2021 awards will start from July 1.

Debuting this year, the Greenhouse Technology awards will be given annually to recognize technology demonstrating a high level of innovation in advancing the greenhouse and controlled environment agriculture sectors. Deadline: July 2, 2021.

AUMA Awards recognizes leaders in municipalities across Alberta. Deadline: July 9, 2021.

13. Government Update

Alberta’s CAP funding will focus on investment in agriculture and food processing. Funding for the five-year $406-million partnership remains unchanged.

The new Alberta Security Infrastructure Program will help protect targets of hate-motivated crime with funding for security upgrades.

The government is providing $750,000 to the Alberta Elder Abuse Awareness Council to support elder abuse prevention and intervention initiatives.

Alberta communities can now apply for grants to prevent youth involvement in gangs.

The City of Calgary approves more supports for Calgary’s business community.

More than $400,000 in funding is supporting 24 projects for the first intake of the Multiculturalism, Indigenous and Inclusion Grant (MIIG) Program.

Three lucky Albertans aged 18 and older who get vaccinated will each win a $1-million lottery jackpot this summer.
