Summer and Grants

A number of grant deadlines, grant events, and business awards are below.

1. Agriculture

Local Food Infrastructure Fund (LFIF) fourth intake: up to $500,000 in grant funding available. Deadline: July 15, 2022.

Food innovation challenge: up to 50% eligible project costs will be provided. Letter of intent due on July 7, 2022. Full proposals deadline: September 16, 2022.

Genome Canada is launching a new Climate Action Genomics Initiative with approximately $30 million available funding. Deadlines: LOI- Sept. 2022; Application – Jan. 2023.

AgriCommunication Program: Applicants may apply for funding up to 70% of total eligible costs. Application is ongoing until ongoing basis until September 30, 2023.

Price Pooling Program: designed to assist and encourage cooperative marketing of eligible agricultural products, including processed products.

Efficient Grain Handling Program: receive up to $100,000 over the program term. Application is ongoing.

The 2022 Canadian Agri-Food Automation and Intelligence Network (CAAIN) Competition for the Smart Farms Program: up to $5 Million funding available. Application is a continuous intake.

2. Arts and Culture

The Artist Development program (AD) offers a $2,000 subsidy toward a year of artist development activities. Deadline: July 14, 2022.

Alberta Made Production Grant: covers 25% of eligible Alberta production costs to a maximum of $125,000. Deadline: July 16, 2022.

Dance Individual Project Funding: This opportunity awards up to $15,000 for a specific dance project. Deadline: September 1, 2022.

Canada History Fund supports the production of learning materials, the organization of learning activities and the creation or maintenance of networks. Deadline: September 15, 2022.

Media Arts Equipment Acquisition Fund: valued up to $30, 000 grant. Deadline: November 16, 2022.

Invent & Adapt 2022: Edmonton Arts Council Invent & Adapt: request up to $30,000 grant. Learn more.

3. COVID

U.S. Mission to Canada Funding Opportunities: Combatting COVID-19 Grant Program with up to $100,00 grant available. Deadline: July 6, 2022

Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program: COVID-19 Resilience stream: The maximum size of projects under the stream is set at $10M total eligible costs.

The Tourism Relief Fund (TRF) is a $500-million national program to support the tourism sector in Canada.

The Major Festivals and Events Support Initiative (MFESI) is a two-year, $200-million national fund to help major Canadian festivals survive and adapt to the pandemic.

Work-Sharing Program: special measures for employers affected by the downturn in business related to COVID-19 effective March 15, 2020 to September 24, 2022.

Indigenous Community Business Fund: access funding to support their community-owned businesses whose revenues have been affected by COVID-19.

The Digital Economy Program helps small businesses take their businesses online.

Arts Presentation Fund for COVID Recovery: In response to the impacts of COVID-19 gathering restrictions, the City of Edmonton allocated funds for artists to present and perform their work. Application is still ongoing.

4. Employment | Varies

You can receive up to $1.5 million through Workforce Strategies grants. Expression of Interest Deadline: July 22, 2022.

TECTERRA Hire is now open: qualify for a non-repayable grant equivalent up to $50,000.

Alberta Construction Associations: Wage subsidies available up to maximum of $5,000. Learn more.

TECHNATION’s Career Ready Program: up to $7000 is awarded to employers hiring students from under-represented groups. Apply now for Fall 2022 program.

Industrial Research Assistance Program Youth Employment Program: Hire young tech talent to help breathe new life into your business.

Young Canada Works – Parks Canada: hires youth to work in all of the National Parks, National Historic Sites and National Marine Conservation Areas across Canada.

Computers for Schools Internship Program: Apply here to provide young Canadians with paid, practical, on-the-job information and communications technologies experience.

5. Environment/CleanTech

Natural Gas Cleantech Competition: NGIF is offering up to $500,000 (CAD) per project, representing as much as 33% of a project’s eligible expenses. Deadline: July 8, 2022.

Bi-Directional Electric Vehicle Charging Solution. Deadline: July 20, 2022.

Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP): Application is open until August 11, 2022.

Application for Zero Emission Vehicle Awareness Initiative is now open. Deadline: August 18, 2022.

ERA is seeking innovative CCUS technologies: Total funds available is $19 million. Deadline: September 12, 2022.

Financial support for technology innovation through NRC IRAP: expand its support to include an increased funding threshold of up to $10 million. Learn more.

The Alberta Methane Emissions Program is a three-year $17.6 million initiative to support methane emissions reductions, funded by the Government of Alberta through TIER fund.

Water Innovation: supports to to create a cleantech industry in water treatment.

6. Export

Do you want to expand your extended reality business? Join the Canadian Technology Accelerator in Japan! Deadline: July 13, 2022.

Canada – Spain 2022 collaborative industrial research and development call for proposals: receive up to $500,000 CAD reimbursement. Canadian registration deadline: August 17, 2022.

CanExport SMEs: access up to $50,000 in funding to assist with international market development activities.

Canadian Technology Accelerator (CTA): Learn CTA programs and be explore opportunities to grow your business worldwide.

Mitacs Entrepreneur International assist with travel costs up to $5,000 to help you explore new business opportunities abroad.

Export Readiness – Micro Vouchers: with up to $20,000 funding to build and develop a strategic approach for expansion globally. Set to end on May 1, 2023 or when all funds are disbursed.

CanExport Innovation is now accepting applications for projects starting next fiscal year (2022-23). Up to $75,000 in funding available.

7. Indigenous

Residential schools memorial: Up to $1 million fund to honour residential school students who never came home. Deadline:  July 29, 2022.

The Aboriginal Business Investment Fund (ABIF): Application is now open until September 30, 2022.

Community Policing Grant: offers up to $30,000 to assist in preparing a business case outlining local needs, capital requirements and transition considerations.

Clean Fuel Funds: funding for Indigenous-led clean production capacity projects. Applications will be accepted until funding is no longer available. Apply now!

Professional and Institutional Development Program:  funds projects that develop the capacity of communities to perform 10 core functions of governance. Deadline: Varies.

Community Opportunity Readiness: addresses the financial needs of Indigenous communities when they are in pursuit of an economic opportunity. Learn more.

Aboriginal Head Start on Reserve program helps enhance child development and school readiness for children living in First Nations communities on reserve.

Aboriginal Futures offers a Wage Subsidy program intended to assist First Nations and Inuit people who live in Calgary and the surrounding area secure employment.

Rupertsland Institute (RLI) provides post-secondary financial aid to Métis students to reduce the overall cost of education and the financial burden it can have.

8. Municipalities

Electric Vehicle Charging Program: provides $3.4 million in rebates for the installation of EV charging infrastructure in Alberta municipalities.

Sustainable Affordable Housing is a $300 million initiative offers support to local affordable housing providers. Check out.

Recreation Energy Conservation Program: Municipalities and community-related organizations are able to access up to $750,000 for all projects. Deadline: first-come, first-served.

The $2.75 billion Zero Emission Transit Fund offers support to public transit and school bus operators across Canada who are electrifying their fleets. Check here.

SouthGrow Regional Initiative: your community could receive up to $75,000 to install a Fast Charger. Learn more.

Climate Resilience Capacity Building Program: up to $80,000 funding per project available. Deadline: March 31, 2023.

Canada Community Revitalization Fund provides support to build and improve community infrastructure projects with up to $750,000 funding. Deadline: March 31, 2023.

9. Non-Profit

Alberta Security Infrastructure Program: a grant for security improvements for groups at risk of hate or bias-motivated crimes or incidents. Available funding: $5-million grant program for 2022-2023, open all year.

The 2023 competition of the Innovation Fund is extended July 15, 2022. Up to $400 million in research infrastructure funding available.

Alberta Health Services: submit a request for expressions of interest and qualifications (RFEOIQ): Budget 2022 includes $750 million for home care. Deadline: July 28, 2022.

Alberta’s government is investing $4 million to help get more Alberta kids and youth active. Deadline: August 7 or  until funds are distributed.

Donation Fund Program: Up to $350,000 in matching funds are being made available to support sport, physical activity and recreation in the province. Open for donations made between April 1 and August 30, 2022.

Access to Justice in Both Official Languages Support Fund: support to increase  capacity of the justice system and awareness in the legal community  in both official languages.

10. Post Secondary | Varies

Technology Access Centre grants: provide capabilities that serve their community organizations’ applied research and innovation needs. Letter of intent deadline: July 12, 2022.

SSHRC Research Data Management Capacity Building Initiative: supports the effective and responsible conduct of research, and increases the ability to store, find and reuse research data. Application Deadline:  July 18, 2022.

Collaborative Research and Training Experience (CREATE) program: program supports the training and mentoring of teams of highly qualified students and postdoctoral fellows for a maximum of $1.65M over six years. Deadline: September 22, 2022.

Alliance Consortia Quantum grants: NSERC will provide support for 100% of the eligible costs of research through this program. Deadline: October 21, 2022.

Call for proposals – Strengthening Canada’s quantum research and innovation capacity: Grant support ranges from $50,000 to $300,000 per year, for a duration of up to five years.

11. Technology | Varies

Zayed Sustainability Prize: apply to the US$3 million Prize with each winner in the Health, Food, Energy, and Water categories eligible to receive USD 600,000. Deadline: July 6, 2022.

UPDATE! Deadline of the following funding opportunities has been extended until July 13, 2022: Quantum sensingQuantum communications and Quantum computing.

Robot round-up – Advanced robotics platforms and control solutions: The IDEaS program will be investing $1.6 billion in innovations for defence and security over the next 20 years. Deadline: August 2, 2022.

NSERC Alliance – Alberta Innovates Advance Program: Individual proposals can request up to $150,000 per year and can be for up to two years in duration.

The Carbon Capture and Utilization program supports Alberta SMEs with technologies that convert carbon dioxide into useful products with significant commercial value. Learn more.

The Boost Your Business Technology grant offers support to Canadian-owned small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) who want to adopt new digital technologies.

NGEn’s Cluster Building: provides up to $150K funding. Learn more.

Startup Edmonton: provides programming designed for you to help you explore new product idea or take your business to the next level. Learn more.

12. Grant Events

Grow your business with BNI – a structured business referral network. Date: July 7, 2022.

BC Bioenergy Network (BCBN) invites you to attend the July West Coast Bioenergy Guild. Date: July 12, 2022.

Climate Action Genomics Initiative virtual information session. Registration Deadlines: Early July 2022.

Protein Industries Canada – Annual General Meeting: Join us in accelerating the future. September 13-14, 2022.
