2023 Grants

Happy New Year Everyone!

A number of grant deadlines, grant events, and business awards are below.

In 22 days, the Advanced Grant Writing Course will start. One student from last year already won over $500,000 in funding. 1. Agriculture

Innovation Booster provides up to 50% of total eligible project costs to advance your food innovation and research outcomes. Intake 1 closes on March 3, 2023.

Food Innovation Challenge – Cultivating a resilient food future: Developing the end-to-end Cellular Food capacity for Canadian global leadership. Expression of Interest closes on March 27, 2023.

AgriInnovate Program: funding up to 50% of total eligible costs, to a maximum of $10 million. Deadline: March 31, 2023.

Agricultural Clean Technology Program: Program funding for the Research and Innovation Stream is $50 million. Program ends March 31, 2028.

Supply Management Processing Investment Fund contributes up to $5 million in non-repayable contribution to an organization over the life of the program until March 31, 2028.

The African Swine Fever Industry Preparedness Program (ASFIPP) will provide up to $23.4 million over 2 years. Application is now open until November 30, 2023.

AgriCommunication Program: up to $8 million federal initiative available. Apply now before funding has been fully committed.

Emerging Opportunities program: maximum grant funding provided by this program is $500,000 per fiscal year.

2. Arts and Culture

Translation component of Arts Across Canada: Up to $25 000 for each translation, plus an Annual Supplement for targeted costs. Next Deadline: January 11, 2023.

Sport for Social Development in Indigenous Communities — Sport Support Program. Up to $5.3 million funding available. Stream Two deadline:  January 17, 2023.

The Artist-Driven Organizations component of Explore and Create supports the development of artistic activities. Grant amounts up to 60% of your total annual reveneus. Deadline: January 17, 2024.

Future Focus Granting Program: $400,000 funding available. Applications will be accepted until the funds are expended. Next deadline: February 6, 2023.

Art Acquisitions by Application: provides support for individual Alberta artists or an ensemble of artists through the purchase of their artwork. Deadline: June 1, 2023.

Representation and Promotion component of Arts Across Canada funds: funds up to $30, 000 to travel linked to promotion and development of new markets for Canadian artists.

Invent & Adapt 2022 support a wide range of work that is centered on reimagining and retooling an organization’s future with up to $30,000 funding. Apply now!

Local Journalism Initiative: Funding provides support for you to hire journalists or pay freelance journalists to produce civic journalism for underserved communities.

3. COVID

Venture Capital Catalyst Initiative (VCCI) is making available up to $450 million through three new streams. Learn more.

The Jobs and Growth Fund provides funding to businesses and organizations to help create jobs and position local economies for long-term growth. Learn more.

The Tourism Relief Fund (TRF) is a $500-million national program to support the tourism sector in Canada.

The Digital Economy Program helps small businesses take their businesses online.

The Aerospace Regional Recovery Initiative (ARRI) is a national program that will provide $250 million over three years to help the Canadian aerospace sector.

Arts Presentation Fund for COVID Recovery: the City of Edmonton allocated funds for artists to present and perform their work. Application is still ongoing.

The Major Festivals and Events Support Initiative (MFESI) is a two-year, $200-million national fund to help major Canadian festivals survive and adapt to the pandemic.

Short-Term Compensation Fund for Canadian Audiovisual Productions (STCF): extended until March 31, 2023 and is budgeted at up to $150 million dollars.

Indigenous Community Support Fund: request funding for needs-based support covering the period until March 31, 2023.

Recovery support for Canadian arts, culture and heritage organizations through Canada Arts and Culture Recovery Program.

4. Employment | Varies

Hire and mentor youth in the natural resources sector through Science and Technology (S&T) Internship Program – Green Jobs. Deadline to submit proposal for 2023-24 and 2024-25 is until January 11, 2023.

Canada Summer Jobs is now accepting applications. Deadline: January 12, 2023.

Young Canada Works at Building Careers in Heritage (YCWBCH): benefit from wage subsidies and access a pool of students and graduates with innovative ideas and competitive skills. Deadline: January 20, 2023.

York Development Entrepreneurship Institute (YEDI) Incubator: open to entrepreneurs across Canada. Applications are now live and due online by February 3, 2023.

Inventures Startup Pitch Event 2023. Win $10,000 in inventures startup pitch competition. Deadline: February 24, 2023.

EDC Investment Matching Program can match investments of up to $5 million in capital. Learn more.

Grants in support of Compensation for Employers of Reservists Program is still accepting applications. Apply here.

CAHRC’s AgriTalent program supports the development of connections between post-secondary students, employers in agriculture and post-secondary institutions.

Computers for Schools Intern (CFSI) program seeks to enhance the employability and marketability of youth through internships. Learn more.

5. Environment/CleanTech

Industrial Transformation Challenge: successful applicants are eligible for up to $10 million per project. Deadline: January 19, 2023.

ERA is introducing the Comprehensive Energy Savings (CES) funding stream. Application opens January 4 until March 31, 2023. Register here to participate in the Information webinar.

Applications open for Green Freight Program and Zero-Emission Vehicle Awareness Initiative. Applications for this call will be accepted until funding is no longer available.

Alberta Methane Emissions Program supports the development of methane emissions reduction technology to boost provincial emissions management efforts.

Clean Energy Improvement Program (CEIP): commercial property owners in Edmonton can finance up to 100% of their energy efficiency or renewable energy projects. Application is ongoing.

Energy Savings for Business: access up to $55 million in funding for Alberta business to improve efficiency and reduce emissions.

Decarbonization Incentive Program (DIP): you may request funding up to $10 million. Apply now before funding within the province has been allocated.

Critical Habitat Interdepartmental Program provides funding up to $80,000 per project. The call for proposals for the 2023-24 fiscal year is now open.

6. Export

CanExport Associations: access up to $250,000 in annual funding. Deadline: January 10, 2023.

Taipei Sustainable Development Technology –  Canadian Technology Accelerator. Deadline: February 15, 2023.

Alberta Export Expansion Program: provides reimbursement up to 75% on eligible costs.

Alberta Innovates is still accepting new applications for the Export Readiness – Micro Voucher.

Join a Canadian Technology Accelerator (CTA) to explore opportunities to grow your business in 12 global tech hubs worldwide. Learn more.

Interested to pursue international research and development collaboration with a foreign partner? Apply to Canadian International Innovation Program (CIIP).

7. Indigenous

Aboriginal Fund for Species at Risk: Project funding ranges from $10,000 to $50,000. Application for projects commencing in 2023-2024 is now open.

The Alberta government has committed up to $204 million in Budget 2022 for the Continuing Care Capital Program. The application deadline is Friday, January 6, 2023.

Professional and Institutional Development Program funds projects that develop the capacity of First Nations and Inuit communities to perform core functions of government.

First Nations On-Reserve Housing Program helps provide more and better quality housing in First Nations communities in most of Canada.

Indigenous Forestry Initiative (IFI): available funding per year is $1 million.

Indigenous Student Recruitment Initiative aims to increase awareness, recruitment, engagement, and retention of Indigenous students within all of AAFC. Application is ongoing.

Pembina partners with local provincial/state, non-profit and charitable organizations that support Indigenous and Tribal communities. Learn more.

$44.8 million funding initiative to create 12 new shelters for Indigenous women and children escaping family violence. Learn more about this opportunity.

8. Municipalities

Northern and Regional Economic Development Program. Deadline: January 22, 2023.

Application to Type 2 Diabetes Prevention Challenge is now open! Receive up to CAD $1.25M grand prize. Deadline: March 1, 2023.

Electric Vehicles for Municipalities rebate deadline is extended until March 31, 2023. Apply now before the program ends.

Zero Emission Transit Fund is now accepting applications for both the planning and capital funding streams. Apply now.

The Clean Energy Improvement Program is an innovative community emissions reduction solution available for all municipalities in Alberta.

Climate Resilience Capacity Building Program: receive up to $80,000 per project to invest in climate resilience capacity building. Application is first-come, first-served basis.

Green Municipal Fund’s (GMF) Community Buildings Retrofit (CBR) initiative supports all stages of project development to significantly reduce GHG emissions. Learn more.

The Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) program promotes and enhances the well-being of Albertans, families and communities.

Community Economic Development and Diversification (CEDD) program supports economic development initiatives in the Prairie provinces.

9. Non-Profit

Neighbour Grants offers up to $7,500 to help people build their sense of inclusive belonging in their own communities. Next deadline: January 10, 2023.

Stabilize Program (Phase 2) – Adapt and Innovate Stream: This funding will help protect and promote Alberta sport and cultural identity, support tourism, and restore community vibrancy. Deadline: January 31, 2023.

Application to Type 2 Diabetes Prevention Challenge is now open! Receive up to CAD $1.25M grand prize. Deadline: March 1, 2023.

Enhanced Capacity Advancement Program: The next multi-year funding cycle intake is anticipated for fall 2025. Learn more to help you prepare.

The Legal Aid Program provides contribution funding to the provinces and territories for the delivery of legal aid services for economically disadvantaged persons.

Child care – Space Creation Grant will help enable 42,500 total new non-profit licensed spaces to be created over the next 5 years. Apply here.

10. Post Secondary | Varies

Idea to Innovation (I2I) grants is to accelerate the pre-competitive development of promising technology originating from the university and college sector. Next deadline: January 6, 2023.

Application to Type 2 Diabetes Prevention Challenge is now open! Receive up to CAD $1.25M grand prize. Deadline: March 1, 2023.

College and Community Innovation program: College and Community Social Innovation Fund grants: Receive up to $120,000 per year. Deadline: March 1.

New Beginnings Bursary: Up to 1,000 bursaries of $5,000 each are awarded annually. Learn more.

Mitacs Canadian Science Policy Fellowship places PhD holders in government host offices: Receive an annual salary of $70,000-$80,000. Application is now open!

Receive up to $3,000CDN through the Upper Bound Talent Bursary PRogram. Application is a first-come, first-allocated basis. Apply now!

College and Community Innovation program: Applied Research and Development grant is providing up to $150,000 per year for maximum of 3 years.

Alliance grants encourage university researchers to collaborate with partner organizations with up to $1 million per year funding. Application is ongoing.

Funding opportunities support the National Quantum Strategy by advancing Canada’s research, innovation and talent development in quantum science and technology. Learn more.

The Alberta Broadband Fund is now accepting application until March 20, 2023.

Cyber Security Innovation Network: The value of the contribution agreement will be up to $80 million over four years.

Minister’s Awards for Transportation Innovation: Submit your nomination by January 13, 2023.

Global Energy Show Award Call for Submissions now open! Deadline: February 3, 2023.

The American Business Awards: Entry deadline is on February 8, 2022.

Nominate a remarkable Albertan from your community for consideration to receive the Alberta Order of Excellence. Annual deadline is February 15.

Nominations for the 32nd Annual Emerald Awards is now open until mid- February 2023.

Nomination for RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Awards will open on January 23, 2023. Deadline: March 31, 2023.

Nominate someone who has made a lasting impact in the skilled trades or apprenticeship education to the Alberta Trades Hall of Fame. Annual deadline: March 31.

EY Entrepreneur Of The Year program will launch on January 17. Deadline: April 15, 2023.

The John Hirsch Prizes recognize the artistic merit and potential of emerging theatre directors. Prize amount: $6,000. Deadline: October 1, 2023.
