Below are a number of grant deadlines, grant events, and business awards.

Welcome to the Advanced Grant Writing Course!

The desired outcome of this course is to learn how to write your high-quality grant application, faster. You will be taught the skills to successfully find grants, meet grant agencies, and write compelling government grant applications that WIN grants.

1. Agriculture

Alberta is now accepting applications for the new Agri-processing Investment Tax Credit program.

On- Farm Value Added Program: access up to $250,000 funding. Deadline: May 15, 2023.

FCC AgriSpirit Fund: Applications are open until May 15, 2023.

2023 On-Farm Climate Action Fund (OFCAF) Access up to maximum grant payment of $75,000.

CFIN’s FoodTech Next program provides funding up to 50% of total eligible project costs, or $250,000. Expression of Interest Opens: August 1, 2023 until September 6, 2023.

The African Swine Fever Industry Preparedness Program (ASFIPP) will provide up to $23.4 million over 2 years. Application is now open until November 30, 2023.

Farm Technology Program provides financial incentives on new technologies that are commercially available and already demonstrated under Alberta conditions.

Agricultural Clean Technology Program: Program funding for the Research and Innovation Stream is $50 million. Program ends March 31, 2028.

Supply Management Processing Investment Fund contributes up to $5 million in non-repayable contribution to an organization over the life of the program until March 31, 2028.

Canadian Agricultural Strategic Priorities Program is a $10 million per year program of non-repayable contribution funding. Intake period is open.

Protein Industries Canada will be investing $30 million into these artificial intelligence projects, benefiting the plant-based and agrifood sector. Send your EOI today.

AgriCommunication Program: up to $8 million federal initiative available. Apply now before funding has been fully committed.

Resilient Agricultural Landscape Program (RALP) funding is offered on a per-acre payment basis for a term of 3 years. Learn more.

2. Arts and Culture

Sector Innovation and Development component of Supporting Artistic Practice: access up to up to $50 000 per year. Next deadline: May 3, 2023.

Project Grant Program – Individuals and Collectives: Total funding available for this program is $2 million. Deadline: May 10, 2023.

Magazine Publishers Operating Grant provides funding to help over operating and specific business development related expenses. The intake period is open until June 1 annually.

Digital Museums Canada: up to $250,000 grant available. Next Call for Proposals: June 15, 2023.

Operating Grant New Client Intake Program: Total funding available for this program is $800,000. Deadline: June 21, 2023.

Canada History Fund. September 15, 2023 for projects that start during fiscal year April 1, 2024-March 31, 2025.

Marketing and Promotion for Non-FACTOR-Funded Sound Recordings: up to maximum of $20,000, plus up to $5,000 in additional funding through the Radio Marketing component.

Invent & Adapt 2022 support a wide range of work that is centered on reimagining and retooling an organization’s future with up to $30,000 funding. Apply now!

Local Journalism Initiative: Funding provides support for you to hire journalists or pay freelance journalists to produce civic journalism for underserved communities.

The Commemorate Canada program provides funding to initiatives that commemorate and celebrate historical figures, places, events and accomplishments of national significance.

The Athlete Assistance Program (AAP) is a sport funding program that contributes to the pursuit of excellence. Apply here.

3. COVID

Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program: COVID-19 Resilience stream: The maximum size of projects under the stream is set at $10M total eligible costs.

Venture Capital Catalyst Initiative (VCCI) is making available up to $450 million through three new streams. Learn more.

The Jobs and Growth Fund provides funding to businesses and organizations to help create jobs and position local economies for long-term growth. Learn more.

The Tourism Relief Fund (TRF) is a $500-million national program to support the tourism sector in Canada.

The Digital Economy Program helps small businesses take their businesses online.

The Aerospace Regional Recovery Initiative (ARRI) is a national program that will provide $250 million over three years to help the Canadian aerospace sector.

The Major Festivals and Events Support Initiative (MFESI) is a two-year, $200-million national fund to help major Canadian festivals survive and adapt to the pandemic.

Short-Term Compensation Fund for Canadian Audiovisual Productions (STCF): extended until March 31, 2023 and is budgeted at up to $150 million dollars.

Indigenous Community Support Fund: request funding for needs-based support covering the period until March 31, 2023.

Recovery support for Canadian arts, culture and heritage organizations through Canada Arts and Culture Recovery Program.

4. Employment | Varies

Strive 4 Work is an employment-focused program for individuals with disabilities followed by 12 weeks of work experience. Program starts: May 8, 2023.

Aviation Skills Grant: funds up to $30,000 per trainee for the duration of the program. Deadline: May 26, 2023.

Student Work Placement Program (SWPP) 2023-2024 funding is now available and accepting applications.

Skilled Newcomer Internships for the Bio-Economy: $20,000 wage subsidy to make the bio-economy more diverse and inclusive.

TECHNATION’s Career Ready Program: provides subsidy up to $7000. Application is now open for Summer 2023.

Science Horizons Youth Internship Program: wage subsidies up to $25,000.

ICTC’s Youth Dividend program: receive support in the form of 100% wage subsidy up to a maximum of $22,540.

The Skilled Newcomer Internships for the Bio-economy is now accepting applicants. Access up to $20,000 wage subsidy.

ECO Canada’s Sectoral Workforce Solutions Program (SWSP): eligible employers receive 50% wage coverage up to $15,000.

CareerLauncher’s Apprenticeships Program: receive up to $10,000 to hire a first-year apprentice in a Red Seal construction or manufacturing trade.

2023-2024 applications for Science and Technology (S&T) Internship Program – Green Jobs will open in Spring 2023.

Canada-Alberta Job Grant: Eligible employers can get government funding to help employees and unemployed Albertans access training opportunities.

5. Environment/CleanTech

Carbon Fibre Grand Challenge launches Phase III; up to $20 million available through Alberta Innovates. Deadline: June 15, 2023.

ERA announced up to $50 million in new funding through the Reshaping Energy Systems funding competition. Deadline: June 15, 2023.

Alberta Land Trust Grant Program helps establish and administer new conservation easements. Applications for funding in 2024 will open spring/summer 2023.

Alberta Ecotrust Foundation – The 2023 Springboard Grant application intake will open mid July, 2023.

ERA’s Small Producers Energy Efficiency Deployment (SPEED): access up to $1 million for cost-effective energy and cost-saving technologies. Deadline: September 30, 2023.

Green Freight Program: Stream 1 of the Program is providing grant funding up to a maximum of $250,000 per applicant. Learn more.

The Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP) is now accepting applications under a continuous intake process for Initial Recipient projects.

NGIF Industry Grants offers a non-dilutive grant to startups that delivers solutions to challenges facing the natural gas sector. Learn more.

Energy Savings for Business: access up to $55 million in funding for Alberta business to improve efficiency and reduce emissions.

Low Carbon Economy Challenge: details on who can apply and when the next intake will be launched will be available later in 2023. Stay tuned!

6. Export

The Eureka SMART Cluster for advanced manufacturing has launched its 6th call for proposals. Deadline to submit the full project proposal: May 3, 2023.

Mineral-Canadian Critical Minerals Technology partnering delegation to the UK. Deadline: May 12, 2023.

Silicon valley autotech – Canadian technology accelerator. Deadline: May 24, 2023.

United States climatetech – Canadian Technology Accelerator. Deadline: May 24, 2023.

Digital health Germany – Canadian technology accelerator. Deadline: May 31, 2023.

2023 Startup Global Pitch Competition help you grow your business for the world. Deadline: May 31, 2023.

Blue economy Germany – Canadian technology accelerator. Deadline: June 30, 2023.

CanExport Innovation is accepting new applications for projects starting in fiscal year 2023-2024. Access up to $75,000 in funding.

CanExport SMEs is now accepting applications for fiscal year 2023-24 for projects starting April 1, 2023. Access up to $50,000 in funding.

Eurostars is the largest international funding program for SMEs seeking to collaborate on R&D projects projects that create innovative products, processes or services for commercialization.

Alberta Export Expansion Program: provides reimbursement up to 75% on eligible costs.

Alberta Innovates is still accepting new applications for the Export Readiness – Micro Voucher.

Are you ready to go global or explore new markets? The Trade Accelerator Program is your ticket to take your business to the next level.

7. Indigenous

Aboriginal Business Investment Fund (ABIF) application is now open. Funding up to   $750,000.

The Indigenous Reconciliation Initiative provides funding up to $100,000 for cultural or economic projects through two streams.

Inuit Cultural Education Centres Grant Program is now open. Deadline: May 5, 2023.

Public Safety Canada has just launched a Call for Applications for the Indigenous Community Corrections Initiative (ICCI). Deadline: June 12, 2023.

Cultural Heritage Initiatives Grant: provides up to $25,000 to eligible organization. Application opens June 2023. Stay tuned.

Funding for Indigenous-led awareness and education projects for cleaner transportation and clean fuels: continuous intake open until March 31, 2024.

Aboriginal Entrepreneurship Program: Access to Business Opportunities: Eligible activities will be reimbursed for 100% of costs, to a maximum of $500,000.

Professional and Institutional Development Program funds projects that develop the capacity of First Nations and Inuit communities to perform core functions of government.

Health Facilities Program provide funding for infrastructure that supports the delivery of health-related programs and services.

First Nations On-Reserve Housing Program helps provide more and better quality housing in First Nations communities in most of Canada.

Indigenous Forestry Initiative (IFI): available funding per year is $1 million.

In partnership with Community Futures Treaty Seven (CFT7), Aboriginal Futures offers a Wage Subsidy program. Learn more.

Indigenous Habitat Participation Program gives Indigenous communities opportunities to participate in the conservation and protection of fish and fish habitat. Learn more.

Call for Applications for the Indigenous Community Corrections Initiative (ICCI). A total of $56,010,000 in funding over 5 Fiscal Years.

8. Municipalities

Local Food Infrastructure Fund (LFIF): The next application intake period is expected to open in May 2023.

Disaster Mitigation and Adaptation Fund. Deadline: July 19, 2023.

A continuous intake of the Rural Transit Solutions Fund of the Capital Projects stream is open. Learn more.

Public Transit Infrastructure: Eligible municipalities can apply for funding to improve and expand existing public transit systems.

Zero Emission Transit Fund is now accepting applications for both the planning and capital funding streams. Apply now.

Smart Cities Challenge is a pan-Canadian competition aims to improve the lives of their residents through innovation, data and connected technology. Apply here.

Study: Stormwater quality, municipal project: Grant: Up to 50% of eligible costs to a maximum of $175,000.

Alberta Municipal Water/Wastewater Partnership: Eligible projects can receive up to 75% of project costs.

Community building recommissioning grant: Grant for a maximum of $55,000 to cover up to 60% of eligible costs.

Community Economic Development and Diversification (CEDD) program supports economic development initiatives in the Prairie provinces.

The Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) program promotes and enhances the well-being of Albertans, families and communities.

9. Non-Profit

Community Facility Enhancement Program: access up to $1 million funding. Small Funding Stream: May 15, 2023; Large Funding Stream: June 15, 2023.

FCC AgriSpirit Fund: application is until May 15, 2023.

Cultural Heritage Initiatives Grant: provides up to $25,000 to eligible organization. Application opens June 2023. Stay tuned.

Alberta Ecotrust Foundation – The 2023 Springboard Grant application intake will open mid July, 2023.

The Alberta government has committed $310 million over 3 years in Budget 2023 for the Continuing Care Capital Program. Learn more.

Regional Innovation Ecosystems (RIE) program provides investments in not-for-profit organizations that support businesses in priority sectors to innovate, grow and compete globally.

Community Economic Development and Diversification (CEDD) program generally provides non-repayable contributions by reimbursing costs that successful applicants have paid.

Enhanced Capacity Advancement Program: The next multi-year funding cycle intake is anticipated for fall 2025. Learn more to help you prepare.

The Legal Aid Program provides contribution funding to the provinces and territories for the delivery of legal aid services for economically disadvantaged persons.

Child care – Space Creation Grant will help enable 42,500 total new non-profit licensed spaces to be created over the next 5 years.

10. Post Secondary | Varies

NSERC-SSHRC Sustainable agriculture research initiative: access up to $2,000,000 funding per year. Deadline: May 8, 2023 (Preparatory); November 8, 2023 (Full).

Reconciliation Network in Response to Call to Action 65: Value – $7,000 to $1 million. Deadline: May 15, 2023.

Continuing Education Indigenous Entrance Awards: supports equitable and inclusive participation in lifelong learning opportunities for Indigenous Peoples. Up to $1,000 toward tuition fees. Deadline: August 1, 2023.

NSERC is now accepting applications for Alliance Consortia Quantum grants: up to $1 million funding per year available. Deadline: October 16, 2023.

NSERC-National Science Foundation – Collaboration on quantum science and artificial intelligence is now open.

Mitacs – Accelerate: Put your talent to work with a paid internship at an organization that needs your expertise. Funding starts at $15,000.

Mitacs Entrepreneur International offers travel grants  — up to $5,000 — to Canadian start-ups housed in an incubator linked to an academic institution. Application is ongoing.

Alberta Student Grants: provides assistance to students with a permanent disability or persistent or prolonged disability. Learn more.

11. Technology | Varies

Innovative Solutions Canada launched 2 new challenges. Deadlines: May 30, 2023.

The Digital Commerce Calgary Fintech Award will award $300,000+ in non-dilutive cash to help fintech startups currently based in or looking to expand into Calgary. Deadline: June 5, 2023.

Carbon Fibre Grand Challenge launches Phase III; up to $20 million available through Alberta Innovates. Applications will open on May 1, 2023 until June 15, 2023.

The ACT Open Call is a funding scheme that can support innovative and international CCUS projects. Application is open throughout 2023 until December 31, 2023.

Product Demonstration Program: Qualified SMEs may be eligible for up to $150,000 in funding over a maximum one-year term.

Mitacs Supports the AI Ecosystem with base funding up to $15,000 per four-month project.

NRC IRAP provide provides funding to support research and development projects at various stages of the innovation cycle.

Scale AI’s Acceleration program: provides up to $50,000 to startup or SME focused on building applied AI products and services for supply chains. Learn more.

Digital Research Infrastructure Strategy to fund up to $375 million to ensure that Canadian researchers have the digital tools they need to support scientific excellence.

Strategic Innovation Fund supports large projects and national innovation ecosystems. Total investment leveraged – $67B.

13. Business Award Deadlines

Zayed Sustainability Prize has officially opened for submissions for its next cycle which will run until 2nd May 2023. Each winner will receive US$3 million Prize.

Nominations open for Cultural Leaders Legacy Arts Awards. All other awards deadline: May 12, 2023.

Nominations are now open for the 2023 Grower of the Year award. Deadline: May 12, 2023.

Nominations are now open for Greenhouse Canada’s Top 4 Under 40 awards. Nominations close May 12, 2023.

SSHRC Impact Awards: receive up to $100,000 award. Deadline: May 15, 2023.

Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement: 2024 Nomination cycle opens May 15 until August 11, 2023.

Submissions for the Zayed Sustainability Prize Awards are now open. The Prize will reward the winner of the Climate Action category US $600,000. Deadline: May 23, 2023.

The Elizabeth Sterling Haynes Awards. Nominations until May 31, 2023.

Application for HR Awards 2023 will open on April 10 until June 2, 2023.

Prix Siminovitch Prize: online nomination form opens until July 2023.

The John Hirsch Prizes recognize the artistic merit and potential of emerging theatre directors. Prize amount: $6,000. Deadline: October 1, 2023.

30 Under 30 Innovators: Submit a nomination now for 2023.

Alberta recognizes the best of the best of Alberta’s apprentices and employers. Learn more about available awards and nomination process.

14. Government Update

Budget 2023 increases funding to the Aboriginal Business Investment Fund (ABIF) by 50 per cent.

Alberta’s government is supporting at-risk seniors with $7.4 million over three years.

Alberta’s government is providing $6 million over two years for Indigenous and Municipal Police Transition Study Grants.

Alberta’s government is providing $179.5 million in grants to support 122 road, bridge, community airport and water projects.

Funding of $2.1 million will freshen up housing and shelter spaces.

Alberta’s government is providing an additional $240 million over three years for Albertans with developmental disabilities.

Advanced Education is investing more than $3 million to support rehabilitation and therapy for veterans.

Alberta’s government is investing $5 million in 2023-2024 to train the skilled employees the province’s thriving aerospace industry requires.

More than $32 million in funding for twenty new training initiatives.

New partnership to fund research collaborations focused on sustainable agriculture.

Alberta’s government is investing $8 million to help make sport, physical activity and recreation more accessible.

Alberta’s government is investing $3.5 million in Healthy Aging Alberta.

Budget 2023 adds $12 million to provide better access to pediatric hospital care.

Alberta’s government is supporting Indigenous self-administered policing with a partnership with Siksika Nation, including $75,000.

Alberta’s government is investing an additional $150,000 in the John Ware Youth Empowerment Program.

Alberta’s government is investing almost $1.9 million to expand the Northern Alberta Development Council (NADC) Bursary program.

Alberta’s government is investing more funding into domestic violence prevention and supporting food security in women’s shelters across the province.

Budget 2023 ensures continuing care residents live in modern buildings and in their own private spaces.

Alberta’s government is helping Indigenous and ethnocultural communities preserve and share their history by launching a $1-million grant.
