1. Agriculture

The deadline to enrol for 2023 AgriStability is April 30, 2023.

On- Farm Value Added Program: access up to $250,000 funding. Deadline: May 15, 2023.

Emerging Opportunities: receive grant funding to a project up to maximum of $2,000,000.

Farm Technology Program: Eligible expenses will be cost-shared at 50% grant and 50% applicant. Application is ongoing.

The AgriAssurance Program is a $64.05-million program under the Sustainable CAP. The program ends March 31, 2028.

Supply Management Processing Investment Fund: may contribute up to $5 million in non-repayable contribution to an organization over the life of the program. Application now open.

Poultry and Egg On-Farm Investment Program: provides non-repayable contributions of almost $647 million over 10 years. Project activities must be completed by March 31, 2031.

Disaster Recovery Program: The program provides financial assistance for uninsurable loss and damage caused by emergencies and disasters.

Rural Gas Grant Program: eligible rural gas utilities can apply for grant funding to offset the cost of constructing new rural agricultural and domestic services. Learn more.

Water Well Restoration or Replacement Program: Alberta landowners who suspect their well was damaged by energy activities can apply for reimbursement of associated costs.

Agri-Food and Bioindustrial Innovation Program supports the development and advancement of technologies in the agri-food and forestry sectors.

2. Arts and Culture

Sector Innovation and Development component of Supporting Artistic Practice: access up to $50,000. Deadline: May 3, 2023.

Project Grant Program – Individuals and Collectives: Total funding available for this program is $2 million. Deadline: May 10, 2023.

CIP Project-Based grant: provides funding to new community-based programs, initiatives, events, and publications. Next intake deadline: May 15, 2023.

Local Festivals – Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage: access up to $200,000 grant. Next cut-off: April 30 for festivals starting between January 1 and June 30 of the next calendar year.

Canada Arts Training Fund provides financial support for the ongoing operations of Canadian arts organizations. Deadline: Every 30th of June.

Legacy Fund – Building Communities through Arts and Heritage: access up to a maximum of $500,000.

The Cooperative Investment Fund supports destination development and destination promotion initiatives as well as revenue-based events and festivals. Intake 2: September 12 – October 14, 2023.

Digital Museums Canada: up to $250,000 grant available. Next Call for Proposals: Spring 2023.

The Events component of the Community Support, Multiculturalism, and Anti-Racism Initiatives Program provides funding to community-based events.

Culture and Status of Women grants: learn about funding opportunities for projects in areas of arts, culture, community, heritage, recreation, sport, and diversity and inclusion.

The Commemorate Canada program provides funding to initiatives that commemorate and celebrate historical figures, places, events, and accomplishments of national significance.

Funding for National Service Organizations: Funding is up to 75% of eligible expenses for up to a maximum of $650,000 per fiscal year.

3. COVID

Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program: COVID-19 Resilience stream: The maximum size of projects under the stream is set at $10M total eligible costs.

Venture Capital Catalyst Initiative (VCCI) is making available up to $450 million through three new streams. Learn more.

The Jobs and Growth Fund provides funding to businesses and organizations to help create jobs and position local economies for long-term growth. Learn more.

The Tourism Relief Fund (TRF) is a $500-million national program to support the tourism sector in Canada.

The Digital Economy Program helps small businesses take their businesses online.

The Aerospace Regional Recovery Initiative (ARRI) is a national program that will provide $250 million over three years to help the Canadian aerospace sector.

The Major Festivals and Events Support Initiative (MFESI) is a two-year, $200-million national fund to help major Canadian festivals survive and adapt to the pandemic.

Short-Term Compensation Fund for Canadian Audiovisual Productions (STCF): extended until March 31, 2023 and is budgeted at up to $150 million dollars.

Indigenous Community Support Fund: request funding for needs-based support covering the period until March 31, 2023.

Recovery support for Canadian arts, culture and heritage organizations through Canada Arts and Culture Recovery Program.

4. Employment | Varies

Strive 4 Work is an employment-focused program for individuals with disabilities followed by 12 weeks of work experience. Program starts: May 8, 2023.

Biotalent’s Career Starter Wage Subsidy Now Open. Get up to $15k to hire young talent.

Indigenous Employment Training Partnerships Program: Grants for eligible Indigenous organizations to assist the unemployed or under-employed with skills training and work experience.

Sectoral Workforce Solutions Program: receive up to $18,750 of a candidate’s salary for placement in a new or vacant full or part-time 6 to 12-month position.

Youth in Natural Resources: receive 80% of the candidate’s wages covered up to a maximum of $18,000 for placements of up to 12 months.

CAREERS offers you an opportunity to showcase your industry and attract potential future employees by connecting you to motivated high school interns. Receive up to$7500 in funding.

Digital Skills for Youth program: Internship opportunities are now available through the DS4Y delivery organizations. Learn here.

FIRST Jobs WIL is a fully-funded 200-hour program that offers meaningful work experience for a current student or recent graduate of an Alberta post-secondary institution while supporting the growth of Alberta’s SME Tech Sector.

Microbusiness Training Centre Inc. provides FREE government funded Self Employment Training online.

The Skilled Newcomer Internships for the Bio-economy is now accepting applicants. Access up to $20,000 wage subsidy.

2023-2024 applications for Science and Technology (S&T) Internship Program – Green Jobs will open in Spring 2023.

5. Environment/CleanTech

Energy Innovation Program – Carbon capture, utilization and storage RD&D Call: Deadline to submit your Expression of Interest (EOI): April 17, 2023.

Climate Innovation Grant Program: Get up to $100,000 in funding. Deadline: April 21, 2023.

NGIF Industry Grants launched a $10MM Global Cleantech Challenge. Deadline 1: April 25, 2023; Deadline 2: November 1, 2023.

Deep Retrofit Accelerator Initiative: Over $185 million is available. Applications must be received by April 28, 2023.

Expanded Technologies Pilot program: up to $1 million funding available. Expression of Interest will be accepted until May 1, 2023.

ERA announced up to $50 million in new funding through the Reshaping Energy Systems funding competition. Deadline: June 15, 2023.

Alberta Land Trust Grant Program helps establish and administer new conservation easements. Applications for funding in 2024 will open spring 2023.

Alberta Methane Emissions Program: Alt-FEMP program has a total of $10M funding available. Apply now.

AMEP technology development trials funding is to expedite the commerciality of new technologies. grant is up to 100% of the cost.

Climate Resilience Capacity Building Program: funding up to $80,000 per project. Application is a first-come, first-served basis. Apply now!

Alberta Petrochemicals Incentive Program provides grants to companies to attract investment in new or expanded market-driven petrochemical facilities.

Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program – For delivery organizations: total project costs up to a maximum of $5M. Deadline: December 31, 2024.

Clean Energy for Rural and Remote Communities Program. An additional $300 million is available until 2027.

Nature Smart Climate Solutions Fund: is a $1.4 billion, ten-year fund meant to reduce 2-4 megatons of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions annually. Learn more.

Greener Neighbourhoods Pilot Program – Demonstration projects call: planned to be launched later in 2023. Stay tuned!

6. Export

CIIP – Collaborative research and development projects: maximum of $600,000 funding for approved R&D Projects. Click here to learn open projects and deadlines.

CanExport Innovation is accepting new applications for projects starting in fiscal year 2023-2024. Access up to $75,000 in funding.

CanExport SMEs is now accepting applications for fiscal year 2023-24 for projects starting April 1, 2023. Access up to $50,000 in funding.

Go global with Mitacs Entrepreneur International: receive a travel grant of up to $5,000 to explore international opportunities.

Startup Global: Pitch applications open Spring 2023.

Alberta Export Expansion Program: provides reimbursement up to 75% on eligible costs. Application is ongoing.

CIIP Collaborative research and development projects: Up to 50% of eligible costs to a maximum of $600,000 for approved R&D Projects. Learn more.

Application is still open for the Export Readiness – Micro Voucher. Up to $20,000 grant available.

Join a Canadian Technology Accelerator (CTA) to explore opportunities to grow your business in 12 global tech hubs worldwide. Learn more.

Interested to pursue international research and development collaboration with a foreign partner? Apply to Canadian International Innovation Program (CIIP).

Eurostars is the largest international funding program for SMEs seeking to collaborate on R&D projects that create innovative products, processes, or services for commercialization.

7. Indigenous

Inuit Cultural Education Centres Grant Program is now open. Deadline: May 5, 2023.

The Call for Proposals for the Indigenous Community Corrections Initiative 2023 is now open. A total of $56,010,000 in funding available over 5 Fiscal Years for this initiative.

Public Safety Canada has just launched a Call for Applications for the Indigenous Community Corrections Initiative (ICCI). Deadline: June 12, 2023.

Indigenous Reconciliation Initiative: Advances reconciliation by funding Indigenous-led cultural and economic projects. Applications will open in spring 2023.

The call for 2023-24 Community Support Fund will open for applications in summer 2023.

First Nations Enhanced Education Infrastructure Fund: To be eligible to receive funding, First Nations communities must submit their Infrastructure Investment Plan every year to their ISC regional office by September 30.

Tribal Council Funding: provides core operational funding to tribal councils to deliver programs and services to their member First Nations and to support their capacity development.

Reserve Lands and Environment Management Program provides funding to First Nations to develop capacity to manage reserve land, resources, and environment.

Indigenous Forestry Initiative (IFI): available funding per year is $1 million.

Indigenous Habitat Participation Program is a funding program that gives Indigenous communities opportunities to participate in the conservation and protection of fish and fish habitat. Learn more.

8. Municipalities

Affordable Housing Partnership Program: Details for the next intake period will be available in spring 2023. Stay tuned!

The $2.75 billion Zero Emission Transit Fund is open to applications for both the planning and capital funding streams.

Economic recovery grant funding: funding amount approximately $200 million on grants for specific municipal projects. Learn more.

Pilot project: Local home-energy upgrade financing program: Pilot project: Grants of up to $500,000 to cover up to 50% of eligible costs.

Capital project: GHG reduction pathway retrofit: Combined loan and grant for up to 80% of eligible project costs. Application is ongoing.

Canada Community-Building Fund: municipalities can receive a minimum allocation of $50,000 per year for projects to build and revitalize public infrastructure.

Alberta Community Partnership: the 2023-24 ACP budget is $15.4 million. Check your eligibility.

Recreation Energy Conservation Program: available funding up to $750,000 funding. Application is first-come, first-serve basis.

Community building recommissioning grant provides up to $55,000 to cover up to 60% of eligible costs. Apply now before all funding is allocated.

Public Transit Infrastructure: Eligible municipalities can apply for funding to improve and expand existing public transit systems.

Municipal Sustainability Initiative: Helps support local infrastructure priorities and build strong, safe and resilient communities.

9. Non-Profit

Community Facility Enhancement Program: access up to $1 million funding. Small Funding Stream: May 15, 2023; Large Funding Stream: June 15, 2023.

First responders’ mental health grants: up to $1.5 million available. Deadline: May 28, 2023.

Gay Lea Foundation funds Canadian charities working toward the relief of poverty, advancement of education and purposes beneficial to communities. Next annual deadline: September 10, 2023.

Enhanced Capacity Advancement Program  provides funding for up to 3 years to Alberta-based capacity building non-profit organizations. Access up to $150,000 annually.

Regional Innovation Ecosystems (RIE) in the Prairie provinces: supports non-for-profit organizations in need of resources to implement innovations that would accelerate sector growth.

Exhibition Circulation Fund component of the Museums Assistance Program (MAP): funds costs related activities to the hosting of travelling exhibitions. Application is ongoing.

National Cost-Sharing Program for Heritage Places: open to owners and eligible lessees of national historic sites, heritage lighthouses and railway stations. Next call to be announced later this year.

Regional Quantum Initiative (RQI) in the Prairie Provinces: funds to advance and commercialize quantum products and solutions for domestic and global markets.

Other Initiatives Program (OIP) provides financial assistance for community-based projects that fall outside the scope of all other Community Grants funding streams. Apply now.

Child care – Space Creation Grant application is ongoing.

Community Economic Development and Diversification (CEDD): Funding for projects that support business development and community economic growth.

Victims Fund – Provincial Territorial Program Funding: open for application.

Honda Canada Foundation supports registered non-profit charities that focus on the four pillars: Family, Environment, Engineering and Education. Application is ongoing.

10. Post Secondary | Varies

Collaborative Research and Training Experience program provides up to $150,000 in the first year and up to $300,000 for up to five subsequent years. Send your LoI until May 1, 2023.

Continuing Education Endowment Award provides assistance to adult learners who have chosen to pursue educational goals, often while maintaining a full-time career and family life commitments. Deadline: May 1, 2023.

NSERC-SSHRC Sustainable agriculture research initiative: access up to $2,000,000 funding per year. Deadline: May 8, 2023 (Preparatory); November 8, 2023 (Full).

National Science Foundation Global Centres: access up to $750,000/ year funding. Deadline: May 10, 2023.

Advancing Futures – Prospective students. Application is now accepted. Deadline to apply for fall 2023/24 funding is June 1, 2023.

Advanced Education is investing $2 million annually over the next five years to support the Queen Elizabeth Scholars program.

Alberta Student Grants: provides assistance to students with a permanent disability or persistent or prolonged disability. Learn more.

Continuing Education Indigenous Entrance Awards: supports equitable and inclusive participation in lifelong learning opportunities for Indigenous Peoples. Up to $1,000 toward tuition fees.

Application is open to NSERC-National Science Foundation – Collaboration on quantum science and artificial intelligence. Click for more information.

Exceptional Opportunities Fund is designed to assist institutions and their partners in seizing such unique opportunities.

National Housing Strategy Longitudinal Outcomes Research Grant: a total of $4.8 million available in this program.

Imperial Research Grant: is made to full-time faculty members to support research work carried out by students under their direction. Learn more.

11. Technology | Varies

Testing Stream: The Canadian North and Arctic is now open! receive up to $2.3M. Deadline: April 18, 2023.

Testing Stream: Digitization and cybersecurity: up to $2,300,000 available. Deadline: April 18, 2023.

Testing Stream: Military and Space: access up to $2.3M. Deadline: April 18, 2023.

Protein Industry is now accepting EoI for Technology Program with newly allotted funding of $150 million. Deadline: April 19, 2023.

National Impact Challenge 2023 – Bold Innovations for Living: The winner in each category will receive $25,000 in cash plus in-kind prizes. Deadline: May 8, 2023.

Carbon Fibre Grand Challenge launches Phase III; up to $20 million available through Alberta Innovates. Applications will open on May 1, 2023 until June 15, 2023.

The Ideation Fund enables NRC researchers to explore transformative research ideas in collaboration with external partners. Learn more.

Protein Industries Canada is advancing agrifood through artificial intelligence program. Here is the program guide to learn more.

Financial support for technology innovation through NRC IRAP: access an increased funding threshold of up to $10 million for larger research and development projects.

The Canada Digital Adoption Program (CDAP) is offering SMEs a grant of up to $15,000 to upgrade or adopt digital technologies. Application is still ongoing.

High-throughput and Secure Networks Challenge program: funding for projects is up to 2 years in duration with maximum funding of $100,000 CAD per year.

Alberta Digital Traction is a funding program of up to $50,000 to cover SMEs software development.

Connect to Innovate program committed $585 million to improve connectivity in over 975 rural and remote communities by 2023. Application is still ongoing.

Accelerate Fund: $23 million angel matching fund available for Alberta startups. Application is ongoing.

Accelerating innovations to commercialization: Qualified SMEs may be eligible for up to $150,000 in funding over a maximum one-year term.

The $50 million Reshaping Energy Systems funding competition informational webinar. Date: April 24, 2023.

The William and Meredith Saunderson Prizes for Emerging Artists: Call for nominations is now open until April 24, 2023.

Nominations open for Cultural Leaders Legacy Arts Awards. Categories deadline: Calgary Immigration Society New Canadian Artist Award – April 28, 2023; All other awards – May 12, 2023.

Walter Carsen Prize for Excellence in the Performing Arts: Prize amount – $50,000 by nomination. Deadline: April 30, 2023.

Budget 2023 invests $9 million into a new reconciliation grant program for Indigenous communities and $15 million into building a safer province for Indigenous women.

Budget 2023 invests more than $21 million over three years for funding to support student leaders and Alberta post-secondary research initiatives.

Budget 2023 invests $9 million over three years to support and expand the University of Calgary’s School of Public Policy.

Through Budget 2023, Alberta’s government is investing $54 million over three years to renovate and upgrade 33 pharmacies.

Budget 2023 includes $8 million for the twinning of Highway 19.

Alberta Court of Justice receives $20M boost.

The Alberta government has recognized 11 organizations and individuals with Alberta Community Justice Awards.

Alberta’s government is taking action to grow the tourism industry to a $20-billion opportunity over the next 10 years.
