Description

The “Cybersecure NB” program aims to enhance the understanding and importance of cybersecurity and artificial intelligence (AI) through dedicated training and informational sessions. This provisional initiative is designed to fully reimburse small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) for their expenses, up to a limit of $3,000, to bolster their cybersecurity and AI capabilities within their business operations, utilizing local expertise and services.

Eligible Applicants

  • Only (one) 1 grant per registered business
  • Business must be registered and headquartered in New Brunswick
  • Is a for-profit business
  • Must commit to maintaining strategy/adoption for a least six months after participating in the program
  • Must consent to participating in follow-up surveys, sharing information with the Government of Canada, and having the name of the business published as a recipient of funding
  • Must have had at least $30,000 in annual revenue in the most recent tax year
  • The following types of small businesses are ineligible:
    • Corporate chains, franchises, licenced brands, or registered charities
    • Representatives of multi-level marketing companies
    • A brokerage firm and their agents (real estate, investment, insurance, etc.)
    • Businesses that engage in online reselling or drop-shipping businesses reliant on third-party suppliers

Eligible Expenses

  • Cybersecurity
    • Password Management: The implementation of a robust password management system. This includes integrating a reliable password manager, enforcing strong password policies, and providing education on creating secure passwords.
    • Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA): Integrating MFA wherever feasible. By adding an extra layer of authentication beyond passwords, MFA significantly enhances security.
    • Security Headers: These headers offer additional protection against common web vulnerabilities, safeguarding sensitive data.
    • Secure Wireless Connection: For businesses utilizing Wi-Fi, review, and configuration of network to adhere to the latest encryption standards. Regular reviews of connected devices ensure ongoing security.
    • Patch Management: Ensuring that software and operating systems are up to date and configured to the latest security standards, including the application of security patches to address known vulnerabilities.
    • Endpoint Security: Installing and maintaining antivirus software across all devices, while scheduling regular malware scans to protect against threats.
    • Access Control: Limiting access to sensitive data through file management policies, granting permissions only as necessary for each client/employee’s role within the project.
    • Incident Response Plan: Development of an incident response plan. Clear steps are outlined to handle security breaches or data compromises effectively.
  • Integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Cybersecurity:
    • Threat Detection and Response: AI-powered tools can analyze vast amounts of data in real time, enabling early detection of potential threats. Automated responses enhance the ability to counteract cyberattacks promptly.
    • Anomaly Detection: AI algorithms excel at identifying abnormal patterns and behaviours, aiding in the early detection of suspicious activities that may go unnoticed by traditional cybersecurity measures.
    • Streamlined Operations: AI integration streamlines security processes, reducing the burden on small business owners and IT personnel. This allows for more efficient resource allocation and focus on core business activities.
    • Predictive Analysis: AI’s predictive capabilities help anticipate potential cyber threats, allowing businesses to proactively address vulnerabilities before they can be exploited.
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) Integration:
    • Chatbots for Customer Support: Deploy chatbots on your website or messaging platforms to handle routine customer queries
    • Automated Email Marketing: Utilize AI tools for personalized email marketing campaigns, as well as analyze customer behaviour to send targeted and relevant content, improving conversion rates.
    • Data Analytics for Decision Making: Leverage AI-driven analytics tools to make sense of business data. (Gain insights into customer preferences, market trends, and operational efficiency to inform strategic decisions.)
    • Social Media Management: Use AI tools to schedule posts, analyze engagement patterns, and identify optimal posting times. Enhance social media presence and effectiveness without manual monitoring.
    • Predictive Analytics for Inventory Management: Implement AI algorithms to predict demand and optimize inventory levels. Reduce excess inventory costs and minimize stockouts, improving overall supply chain efficiency.
    • Automated Bookkeeping and Accounting: Adopt AI-powered accounting software to automate bookkeeping tasks. Streamline financial processes, reduce errors, and save time on manual data entry.
    • HR and Recruitment Assistance: Use AI in recruitment processes to screen resumes and identify suitable candidates. Streamline hiring processes and improve the efficiency of HR functions.
    • Personalized Customer Recommendations: Implement AI algorithms to analyze customer preferences and behaviour. Provide personalized product or service recommendations, increasing customer satisfaction and sales.
