“How you think when you lose determines how long it will be until you win.”
Dear Grant Gazette Readers,
I’m beginning to think that winning grants has more to do with your guts than your brains.
Take some inspiration from these stories from last week.
The first comes from Melanie.
Like you, she reads this newsletter.
She came across the Zayed Sustainability Prize in the Gazette for $100,000 USD and said, “why not?”
Melanie says “yes” even though the obstacles were obvious:
Pro Members were treated to this gem of an interview live on the Winning the Public Purse Podcast, where they could ask questions following the show.
Do yourself a huge favour and listen to the character of this wife-and-husband duo, and I think your life will be much richer for it!
One more quick story about guts.
I’ll call this small business owner “Jim.”
Jim has a seasonal business and enrolled two students into the Advanced Grant Writing Course (he had received two 100% training grants).
They quickly moved on to other jobs.
Frustrated, I’m sure. He could have given up on grants.
But not ol’ Jimbo.
Next, he brought on a young lady with a lot of drive and guts.
She is a true “hunter.”
Last week, she told me they had already won $25,000 and are waiting to hear on $55,000 more (since taking the courseonly 6 months ago).
Everyone who reads the Grant Gazette is smart.
But what about guts?
Where are you and I on that measure?
Let’s show some guts and get after it this week.
Sincerely,
David Kincade
P.s. Fun fact regarding brains. With the training grant these people only pay $2,500 for the course and look at the results. Learn more.
Sincerely,
David Kincade

Pro Tip: The best grant applications don’t just explain your business needs. They help the agency tell its story. Ottawa’s story right now is tariff resilience and export growth, so frame your application around those priorities, not just your own.
