Get Growing Program │Government of Nova Scotia

Applicants are eligible for 50% funding assistance on total eligible project costs to a maximum of $5,000 per program year.

Description

The Get Growing Program supports small farms in adopting specialized infrastructure and equipment. The program helps with the expansion of local agricultural production for local markets.

Eligible Applicants

To be eligible, you must be a farm or Mi’kmaq conducting farming activities in a Mi’kmaw community.

For farms, you need to:

  • be currently and properly registered in the correct income category under the Farm Registration Act
  • have generated an annual eligible gross commodity income of $30,000 or less
  • be at least 19 years old and actively farming in the program year
  • have a Premise ID, if you’re a livestock producer

Eligible Expenses

Examples of previously funded projects:

  • Field and Farm Equipment
  • Pest Control/ Mitigation Equipment
  • Processing Equipment
  • Climate Control Equipment
  • Growing Structures
  • Farm Building Improvement(s)
  • Land Improvements
  • Food Safety
  • Marketing Activities
  • Consultant Services

Note: In-kind labour can be used towards specific program activities including but not limited to pest control, site preparation for growing structures, field activities and farm building improvements. A rate of $25/hour (based on the average Living Wage) will be used. A maximum of 15% of the total project cost is eligible up to $750 per year.
