For homeowners in need of major repairs, disabled accessible modifications or adaptations to facilitate seniors’ independent living. Assistance is in the form of a loan, a portion of which may not have to be repaid.
The overall maximum grant / forgivable loan per household for all homeowner programs is $15,000, which increases to $20,000 if the applicant is receiving homeowner repairs for persons with disabilities. The amount of forgivable loan is based upon a sliding income scale and the amount of required repairs. Any repayable loan amount is at the provincial borrowing interest rate and can be repaid over a period of up to 15 years.
The Homeowner Repair Program accepts applications on a continuous basis. There is no fixed deadline. Interested applicants should contact the regional office of the Department of Social Development at 1-833-733-7835 for more information and to apply.
