Description

Programming grants support specific, relevant activity by non-profit organizations that may not need, want, or qualify for an operating investment relationship with the Edmonton Arts Council. Programming grants are assessed based on the impact of the activity and work on artists, artforms, audiences and communities. The amount of activity and work is a key measurement which influences granting. Programming grants may also seed new connections between an organization and the Edmonton Arts Council.

Eligible Applicants

To be eligible to request and receive an Annual Programming Grant, an applicant must:

  • Be a registered non-profit organization.
  • Undertake specific art-based activity such as: Artistic creation, production, presentation, the support of sectors or artistic disciplines in the Edmonton arts community, or the promotion of active participation in art making.
  • Have significant activities in one of the following five areas. Where ​City of Edmonton” is listed in these guidelines, it is defined as:
  • City of Edmonton
  • Alexander First Nation
  • Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation
  • Enoch Cree Nation
  • Paul First Nation
  • Conduct those arts activities on a regular, recurring basis.
  • Maintain their organizational profile in the Edmonton Arts Council online portal (eac​.smart​sim​ple​.ca).

Eligible Expenses

In accordance with the EAC’s 2025 – 2027 funding priorities, an organization seeking an increase from previous funding levels must demonstrate alignment and activities with one or more of the following priorities:

  • Demonstrated commitment to the fair and professional payment of Edmonton artists and arts workers.
  • Effective pursuit of their primary mandate(s) to support, engage, produce, or present work by and for Indigenous communities and/​or equity-seeking groups.
  • Provision of accessible or low-cost public programming to a wide range of Edmontonians, for example by presenting a free festival event or activities.
  • Effective operational management of Edmonton arts facilities, that are accessible and available for the use of multiple artists, audiences, and communities.
