Rural Electric Grant Program │Alberta Federation of REAs (AFREA)

none

Value

The maximum grant per service is $5,250.

Description

The Rural Electric Grant Program (REGP) assists farmers financially to access a basic, essential service at a reasonable cost and aids in the diversification of our rural economy. It also provides partial equity with other Albertans living in urban areas as well as those living in other western provinces that benefit from lower hook-up costs and power rates sponsored by their provincial governments through Crown corporations.

Eligible Applicants

All Alberta producers who are actively farming where the service is being used in conjunction with their farming operation are eligible to apply for grant assistance under the Rural Electric Grant Program.

Eligible Expenses

The following general criteria will be used to determine eligible costs:

  • Grants will be based on the most practical and economical route, to install up to and including a standard 25 kVA transformer for an overhead service and up to and including a 50 kVA transformer on an underground service,
  •  Irrigation, grain dryer and three phase services may include the additional transformer capacity in calculating the grant,
  •  In situations where a service must be constructed in a more expensive manner as a result of federal, provincial or municipal regulation or law, the additional cost may be eligible for a grant (up to the maximum grant amount),
  • One transformer equals one service equals one grant.

There is no limit on the amount or number of grants that an eligible producer may receive. The maximum grant per service is $5,250.

Deadline Date

Open and closes. The Rural Electric Grant Program runs from April 1 to March 31 each year.
