Description

The Aviation Skills Grant grows and diversifies the province’s aviation and aerospace industry by creating more opportunities for Albertans to access training and strengthen the industry’s workforce. The program supports training and re-skilling to help:

  • workers gain new skills to meet the needs of employers
  • employers in Alberta’s aviation and aerospace industry gain the skills and talent to grow their businesses and Alberta’s economy

Eligible Applicants

Eligible employers:

  • Be incorporated (for businesses and some non-profit organizations), have a registered Trade Name (for sole proprietors and partnerships) or be registered under an act of the legislature of a province or the Parliament of Canada.
  • Operating in Alberta.
  • Provide safe working conditions, be in good standing and comply with the Employment Standards Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workers’ Compensation Act and all other applicable legislation and regulations.
  • Provide Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB-Alberta) worker coverage documentation when requested by the Aviation Skills Grant.

Eligible trainees:

  • New hires or existing employees who have been in their role for 12 months or less; or
  • Existing employees that will be transferring to a new position once training is complete;
  • Canadian citizens, permanent residents or protected persons under the Canadian Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, who are legally entitled to work in Canada; and
  • Living or intending to live in Alberta after completing training.

Eligible Expenses

Eligible training costs include:

  • Third-party instructor fees and course costs
  • Proprietary in-house training costs (e.g., replacement wages for trainer time delivering in-house training, curriculum development for in-house training)
  • Textbooks, software and other material costs directly related to the training
  • Other costs associated with the training at the discretion of the Government of Alberta
  • Funding can only be used for direct training costs. The training costs (tuition and other costs) entered on an application form
    should reflect the total costs for all trainees listed on the application.
