A number of grant deadlines, grant events, and business awards are below.

1. Agriculture

Rural Communities Foundation: committed to giving $500,000 over five years to improve the sustainability of farmers and ranchers in Alberta. Deadline: August 31, 2023.

CFIN’s FoodTech Next program provides funding up to 50% of total eligible project costs, or $250,000. EoI Deadline: September 6, 2023.

Resilient Agricultural Landscape Program: supports producers to conserve and enhance the environmental resiliency of your agricultural landscapes. Next intake deadline: November 30, 2023.

Farm Technology Program supports the adoption of innovative technology that minimizes agricultural waste and optimizes farm efficiency.

Agricultural Clean Technology Program: Research and Innovation Stream: program funding is $50 million over 7 years, with this stream ending March 31, 2028.

Farm fuel and rural utility programs: Funding and programs to assist rural Albertans with essential services at a reasonable cost.

Canadian Agricultural Strategic Priorities Program: maximum funding $1 million per year for up to 5 years.

AgriAssurance Program – National Industry Association Component: AAFC contribution up to $1 million per year.

Agri-Food and Bioindustrial Innovation Program: provides up to $500,000 per project and up to 75% of total project costs. Application is ongoing.

Matching Investment Fund (MIF) provides non-repayable contributions for product development projects on a matching investment basis.

Water Well Restoration or Replacement Program: Alberta landowners with damaged well can apply for reimbursement of associated costs.

2. Arts and Culture

Project Grant Program – Organizations: apply for up to $25,000. Total funding available for this program is $600,000. Deadline: August 30, 2023.

Medium to Large-Scale Festivals Program: Deadline: July 24, 2023 for festivals with start dates between April 1, 2024, and September 30, 2024.

Arts & Culture Festival Funding: provides up to a maximum of $14,000.00 per grant. Next Deadline: August 1, 2023.

Cultural Heritage Initiatives Grant: provides up to $25,000 to eligible organization. First Intake will be September 15, 2023.

Canada History Fund: application is until September 15, 2023 for projects that start during fiscal year April 1, 2024-March 31, 2025.

Documentary Heritage Communities Program: Organizations can apply for funding during the annual call for proposals in the fall.

CIP Major Cultural and Sport Events grant: maximum funding available is $250,000. Deadline: October 1, 2023.

Edmonton Arts Council’s (EAC) Individuals & Collectives: approximately $2.7 million is budgeted for this program in 2023. Next Deadline: October 3, 2023.

Community Performing Arts Organizations Operating Funding. Deadline: October 2, 2023.

FACTOR’s Live Performance program subsidizes the cost of domestic and international performances including showcases and tours. Application is ongoing.

Operating Investments help arts and festival organizations fulfill their arts and festival mandates. Deadline: December 1, 2023.

Programming Grants are flexible and support non-profit arts and festival organizations to undertake specific work in Edmonton. Deadline: December 1, 2023.

The Major Festivals and Events Support Initiative (MFESI) is a two-year, $200-million national fund to help major Canadian festivals survive and adapt to the pandemic.

Recovery support for Canadian arts, culture and heritage organizations through Canada Arts and Culture Recovery Program.

3. Employment | Varies

FIRST Jobs: Fall Cohort is now open. Grants start at $4,000.

FREE government funded Self Employment Training at Microbusiness is an excellent self-employment program. Next online training starts August 28, 2023.

The Government of Canada launched the Recognized Employer Pilot (REP) under the Temporary Foreign Worker (TFW) Program. The 3-year pilot project will begin in September 2023.

Wildfire special measures for the Work-Sharing Program are now in effect. Apply until November 4, 2023.

The Jobs and Growth Fund (JGF) is a $700-million federal program to support regional job creation and position local economies for long-term growth.

Supportive Care Assistant Program: get up to a $5,000 wage subsidy, and receive 280 to 560 hours of support!

Canada-Alberta Job Grant: individual employers will have a cap of $300,000 for the amount of grant funding they can receive per fiscal year.

Science Horizon Youth Internship Program covers 80% of wages up to $25K & training.

Environmental Jobs Growth Program: Eligible employers receive up to $18,750 in wage funding.

Colleges & Institutes Canada (CICan) is providing financial incentives up to $10,000 to SMEs in construction and manufacturing to help hire apprentices.

The CNIB Foundation’s Come to Work program connects job seekers who are blind or partially sighted with employers.

Young Canada Works at Building Careers in Heritage (YCWBCH): benefit from wage subsidies and access a pool of college and university graduates with innovative ideas and competitive skills.

International Youth Internship Program (IYIP) offers Canadian youth to gain professional experience abroad in the field of international development.

Indigenous Employment Training Partnerships provides grant funding to assist Indigenous individuals to gain the necessary skills training and work experience.

Apprenticeship Incentive Grant (AIG) helps you pay for expenses while you train as an apprentice in a designated Red Seal trade. Apply here.

4. Environment/CleanTech

Greener Neighbourhoods Pilot Program Demonstration Projects Call for Proposals: request up to $10,000,000. Deadline: September 14, 2023.

Alberta Land Trust Grant Program: application is now open until September 15, 2023.

Climate Change Adaptation Program: Up to $15 million in funding may be awarded through this Call for Proposals. Deadline: September 22, 2023.

Alberta Innovates’ Hydrogen Centre of Excellence Competition 2: $20-25 million funding available. Deadline: September 26, 2023.

ERA is launching the $25 million Accelerating Hydrogen Challenge to accelerate hydrogen technologies in Alberta. Deadline: September 26, 2023.

Zero-Emission Vehicle Awareness Initiative – Education and awareness project funding – clean transportation and clean fuels is now open until September 26, 2023.

NGIF Industry Grants $10MM GlobalCleantechChallenge is accepting applications for its second deadline. Application is until November 1, 2023.

Clean Energy Transition Partnership Joint Call 2023 set to launch on September 13, 2023. EOI submission deadline: November 22, 2023.

Singapore & Hong Kong Fintech. Deadline: August 23, 2023.

Hong Kong sustainability tech. Deadline: August 23, 2023.

Startup Global “Pop-up” Pitch Competition: an in-person opportunity to win a cash prize of $3,000 at Calgary on September 28, 2023. Deadline: September 14, 2023.

Women Exporters Program: application is now open until October 13, 2023. Webinars will be hostted from September 19, 2023 and February 27, 2023.

Team Canada Trade Missions in India and Japan: Submit to your application today.

Canada-Caribbean Microgrid Accelerator: subsidies available for travel between Canada and the Caribbean.

Creative Export Canada provides up to $7M in funding per year to support export-ready projects. Export-Ready Stream’s next intake will be in the Fall of 2023.

Canada Brand is open to export-ready, registered Canadian business entities that have a role in producing, promoting or supporting Canadian agriculture, food or seafood products.

Eurostars is the largest international funding program for SMEs seeking to collaborate on R&D projects that create innovative products, processes or services for commercialization.

Alberta Export Expansion Program: provides reimbursement up to 75% on eligible costs.

Alberta Innovates is still accepting new applications for the Export Readiness – Micro Voucher.

Canada Brand is open to export-ready, registered Canadian business entities that have a role in producing, promoting or supporting Canadian agriculture, food or seafood products.

6. Indigenous

First Nation Infrastructure Fund (FNIF) helps improve and increase public infrastructure in First Nations. Deadline: Fall of each year.

Aerospace Regional Recovery Initiative (ARRI): receive up to 100% funding of eligible program costs.

Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program funding – Indigenous organizations: NRCan’s contribution is up to a maximum of $2M per project.

Aboriginal Business Investment Fund: funds up to $750,000 to support an Indigenous community-owned economic development project.

Indigenous Reconciliation Initiative – Economic Stream: receive a maximum of $100,000 to support an Indigenous owned economic development project.

Clean Energy Initiatives in Indigenous, rural and remote communities: an additional $300 million is available until 2027 for your clean energy projects.

Aboriginal Entrepreneurship Program – Access to Capital: individual Indigenous entrepreneurs may receive up to $99,999 in funding assistance.

Strategic Partnerships Initiative (SPI): $14.45 million is budgeted for SPI funding per year.

Emergency Management Non-Structural Mitigation and Preparedness program: provides funding to build resiliency and prepare for natural hazards.

Professional and Institutional Development Program: funds projects that develop the capacity of First Nations and Inuit communities to perform core functions of government.

Community Opportunity Readiness program provides funding up to $3 million for community economic infrastructure proposals.

Health Facilities Program: provide funding for infrastructure that supports the delivery of health-related programs and services.

7. Municipalities

Watershed Resiliency and Restoration Program: applications are open for 2023-24. Deadline: September 15, 2023.

The Housing Accelerator Fund – launching in summer 2023 – provides incentive funding to local governments to boost housing supply across Canada.

Rural Development & Promotion Fund supports tourism organizations in destination development and promotion initiatives with up to $100,000. Opens September 12 until October 13, 2023.

Resource Road Program provides funding to municipalities for roads used by new and existing industries. Deadline: November 30, 2023 for funding in the following year.

Community building recommissioning grant: Grant for a maximum of $55,000 to cover up to 60% of eligible costs.

Community Economic Development and Diversification (CEDD) program supports economic development initiatives in the Prairie provinces.

The Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) program promotes and enhances the well-being of Albertans, families, and communities.

Municipal Asset Management Program: offer funding, training, and resources to help you strengthen your asset management practices.

The Federal Lands Initiative is a $200-million fund that supports the transfer of surplus federal lands and buildings to eligible proponents.

Alberta Community Partnership aims to improve the viability and long-term sustainability of municipalities. The 2023-24 ACP budget is $15.4 million.

Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) program is an 80/20 funding partnership between the Government of Alberta and participating municipalities or Métis Settlements.

Public Transit Infrastructure: apply for funding to improve and expand existing public transit systems.

Pilot project: Local home-energy upgrade financing program: Grants of up to $500,000 to cover up to 50% of eligible costs.

Pilot project: Signature initiative: Grant: Up to $500,000 to cover up to 50% of eligible costs.

8. Non-Profit

Continuing Care Capital Program: Capital grant funding program to increase continuing care spaces in Alberta. Deadline: August 25, 2023.

Gay Lea Foundation funds Canadian charities working toward the relief of poverty, advancement of education, and purposes beneficial to communities. Next annual deadline: September 10, 2023.

Cultural Heritage Initiatives Grant: provides up to $25,000 to eligible organizations. First Intake will be September 15, 2023.

Outreach Initiative grants and contributions program provides grant funding to support a variety of science- or innovation-based initiatives or projects. Next intake: between September 1 and October 10, 2023.

Community Economic Development and Diversification (CEDD) program generally provides non-repayable contributions by reimbursing costs that successful applicants have paid.

Canada Life – Stronger Communities Together: Supporting charitable organizations and initiatives across the country is one of the ways Canada Life gives back to Canadians.

Child care – Space Creation Grant will help enable 42,500 total new non-profit licensed spaces to be created over the next 5 years.

The Legal Aid Program provides contribution funding to the provinces and territories for the delivery of legal aid services for economically disadvantaged persons.

9. Post Secondary | Varies

Innovation Catalyst Grant: successful fellows will be awarded up to $250,000 over 2 years in fellowship and seed funding. September 15, 2023.

Insight Grants support research excellence in the social sciences and humanities. Access up to $400,000 funding. Deadline: October 1, 2023.

John R. Evans Leaders Fund: funds up to $800,000, depending on your share of tri-agency funding. Next deadline: October 15, 2023.

NSERC is now accepting applications for Alliance Consortia Quantum grants: up to $1 million funding per year available. Deadline: October 16, 2023.

NSERC Alliance – Alberta Innovates Advance Program 2023 – 2024 is now open. request up to $150,000 per year and can be for up to two years in duration.

Mitacs Elevate includes a research management training program and a postdoctoral fellowship. Your partner organization’s financial contribution starts at $30,000 per year.

Partnership Engage Grants: provide short-term and timely support for partnered research activities with up to  $25,000 funding.

NSERC Alliance Grants support research projects with up to $1 million per year for 5 years. Application is ongoing.

Summer Research Studentships: The award is meant to encourage students to consider pursuing formal training and a career in health research.

Applied Research and Development grants: funds up to $150,000 per year up to 3 years.

10. Technology | Varies

NATO DIANA pilot challenges now open to Canadian innovators. Approximately 30 innovators will receive grant funding of $150,000 CAD/ € 100,000 EUR starting in late 2023. Deadline: August 25, 2023.

Supply Chain Verifiable Digital Credentials Challenge. Deadline: September 21, 2023.

Supply chain verifiable digital credentials challenge aims to achieve full end-to-end transparency of goods and help prevent supply chain fraud. Deadline: September 26, 2023.

High-Altitude Platform System (HAPS) for Ultra-Long-Range (ULR) wireless backhaul Challenge. Deadline: September 28, 2023.

Collaboration innovation hub challenge will address missing operational capabilities for Shared Services Canada (SSC) and other departments and organizations. Deadline: September 28, 2023.

Venture Capital Catalyst Initiative (VCCI): investing up to $50 million. Deadline for the second intake of the inclusive growth stream has been extended to September 20, 2023.

SXSW Pitch 2024: Application is now open until November 12, 2023.

The ACT Open Call is a funding scheme that can support innovative and international CCUS projects. Application is open throughout 2023 until December 31, 2023.

The Digital Economy Program helps small businesses take their businesses online.

Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF): minimum amount is $10 million for a project with at least $20 million in total eligible supported costs.

As part of the Alberta Broadband Strategy, the Government of Alberta have committed $36 million to the Alberta Broadband Fund (ABF). Stay tuned for Intake 2 launching in 2023.

The Artificial Intelligence for Design (AI for Design) Challenge program develops and provides AI technologies and capabilities to accelerate discovery, R&D, and innovation processes.

International Technology Partnership Program: provides up to  $250,000 in funding over a maximum eighteen month term.

Alberta Digital Traction is a funding program of up to $50,000 for small-and medium-sized Alberta enterprises (SMEs). Application is ongoing.

Strategic Networking and Development Grants: accept applications for support of up to $25,000 per project.

Get up to $15,000 to boost your business technology through Canada Digital Adoption Program – Boost Your Business Technology Grant.

Digital Research Infrastructure Strategy to fund up to $375 million to ensure that Canadian researchers have the digital tools they need to support scientific excellence.

#StartupChats | Government Relations for Entrepreneurs. Date: August 28, 2023.

Carbon Capture Canada 2023. Date: September 12 – 14, 2023.

Energy Works Career Expo: Participate in Canada’s National Energy Career Convention. Date: September 19 – 20, 2023.

Alberta Power Symposium: learn about plans for transitioning to low emissions resources. Date: September 27-28, 2023.

Startup Canada Launches Cross-Canada Event Series for Early Stage Entrepreneurs. Calgary – September 28, 2023.

Atlantic Canada’s Best Places to Work. Deadline: September 1, 2023.

Best of Atlantic Canada: Votes submitted after September 1 will be held for the following year.

The John Hirsch Prizes recognize the artistic merit and potential of emerging theatre directors. Prize amount: $6,000. Deadline: October 1, 2023.

Canada’s Healthy Workplace Month – Canada’s Healthy Workplace Month. Deadline: October 31, 2023.

Nominate a Powerful Woman. Nominations submitted after November 1 will be held for the following year.

2024 Innovation Awards Application: Deadline: November 12, 2023.
