Equipment Modifications to Improve Manure Application | OSCIA

Description

Equipment Modifications to Improve Manure Application provides support to producers who spread manure and require upgrades to do so efficiently and responsibly.

Eligible Applicants

Farm businesses that file farm business taxes in Ontario as demonstrated by:

  • A valid farm business registration number (FBRN) OR
  • A Religious Exemption Letter provided by the OMAFRA Appeal Tribunal (provide with application submission) OR
  • A Cultural Exemption Letter provided by the Indian Agricultural Program of Ontario to First Nations farmers, verifying the farm business operates in a First Nations community (provide with application submission) OR
  • An income exemption from the Farm Property Class Tax Rate Program (i.e., Start-up farm businesses, Business structure change, Not a normal production year, Age/Illness/Death of a spouse) (provided with application submission)

Applicants must:

  • Have a verified, 4th Edition Environmental Farm Plan, identifying the project as an action and effectively moving a “1” or “2” rating to a “3” or “4” rating; and,
  • Be in compliance with all requirements of the law and must remain in compliance for the duration of the project.

Eligible Expenses

  • New/used manure application equipment or modifications to current manure application equipment with specialized components required to convert to direct injection, below canopy, pre-tillage equipment mounted directly on manure application equipment (e.g., one pass injection unit)
  • Hitched attachments, splash plate, injectors, injector opener (e.g., coulters)
  • Air pumps to facilitate proper emptying of manure pipe systems
  • Rate monitors, sensors, and flow meters on liquid manure equipment
  • Spreader tank agitator to keep the solids in suspension
  • Remote shut-off devices for direct flow manure application systems
  • Modifications to support variable rate nitrogen with manure application to achieve rate that meets crop phosphorus needs
  • Modifications to make existing manure spreading units operate at lower rates as specified in the applicant’s Nutrient Management Plan (e.g., vertical beater systems, poultry litter spinners)
  • Scales mounted directly on manure application equipment, used to weigh manure going to field
  • Companion tanks for nitrogen on a manure application system
  • Slurry or splash guards on box spreaders to prevent spillage
  • Surface inlet control valves, sentinel tiles, tile outlet markers, monitoring equipment to detect and prevent manure from moving into tile drains
