Description

Financial Support for Aspiring Farmers was designed to help young producers establish themselves on an existing farm or start a new business.

Eligible Applicants

You can qualify your operation for our Financial Support Program for Aspiring Farmers if you meet the following criteria:

  • Are domiciled in Quebec and are Canadian citizens or permanent residents under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (S.C. 2001, c. 27);
  • Are between 18 and 40 years of age;
  • Have some recognized training;
  • Own at least 20% shares in the operations;
  • Have at least one year’s relevant experience in farming;
  • Develop a project with permanent, productive structures that offer prospects for the future;
  • Demonstrate that the farming business can generate gross annual income of at least $30,000 (part-time) or at least $50,000 (full-time) within 60 months of the grant confirmation date.

Eligible Expenses

The Full-time Grant seeks to:

  • Facilitate your full-time establishment;
  • Encourage you to acquire agricultural, administration, or management training;
  • Grant you financial support of between $20,000 and $50,000.

 

The Part-time Grant seeks to:

  • Facilitate your part-time start-up;
  • Encourage you to acquire agricultural, administration, or management training;
  • Grant you financial support of between $10,000 and $25,000.

 

Both grants can be used for productive investments at your operation, such as:

  • Land improvement;
  • Equipment purchase;
  • Etc.

Deadline Date

Applications for the Financial Support for Aspiring Farmers program are accepted on a continuous basis. There is no fixed deadline, and submissions are reviewed on a rolling schedule.
