Methane Reduction Deployment Program │ Emissions Reduction Alberta (ERA)

Description

Emissions Reduction Alberta’s (ERA) Methane Reduction Deployment Program is designed to help Alberta’s oil and gas industry cut methane emissions faster and more cost-effectively. Funded through Alberta’s Technology Innovation and Emissions Reduction (TIER) system, the program supports the deployment of commercial-ready technologies that detect, measure, and reduce methane. The program will continue until March 31, 2029, or until funding is fully allocated.

A free, hour-long informational webinar will take place on Thursday, November 27, 10-11 a.m. MST, during which details will be shared about the program, the application process, and applicants will have an opportunity to ask questions. A recording will be uploaded to our YouTube channel within 24 hours of the webinar.

Eligible Applicants

The program is open to:

  • Oil and gas facility owners and operators (upstream and midstream) located in Alberta.
  • Organizations ready to deploy proven, commercial-ready technologies that deliver measurable methane reductions.
  • Applicants seeking support for projects that:
    • Reduce, detect, and eliminate methane emissions
    • Strengthen regulatory readiness
    • Improve economic performance and efficiency

Eligible Expenses

ERA’s Methane Reduction Deployment Program offers continuous intake funding to accelerate the adoption of widely deployable, high-impact technologies that cut methane emissions. Eligible projects include:

  • Engine optimization, retrofits, or replacements to reduce methane slip,
  • Surface Casing Vent Flow (SCVF) capture solutions,
  • Tank and compression routine venting mitigation solutions,
  • Pneumatics, electrification, capture, or conversion to no-bleed systems,
  • Casing gas conservation and destruction,
  • Digital solutions, and
  • Other innovative methane reduction technologies.

Deadline Date

The program will continue until March 31, 2029, or until funding is fully allocated.
