1. Agriculture

The Food Waste Reduction Challenge is currently accepting applications for Streams A and B. Deadline: January 18, 2020. link

2. Arts and Culture

Provincial Arts Service Organizations Operating Fund provides funding in three-year cycles to eligible member-based arts organizations that provide educational, resource-based, promotional and advocacy services. Deadline: February 1, 2021. link

Access Support Fund responds to the financial disadvantages that many Deaf or disabled artists routinely experience in creating, producing and disseminating art. Deadline: Ongoing. link

Flag this one for next year. Arts Presenting Project Funding supports the public presentation of professional artists by reimbursing a portion of professional artists’ fees for the preceding year. Deadline: December 2, 2020. link

3. Employment | Varies

Innovation Employment Grant: When this program launches in January 2021, companies can receive a grant of up to 20% toward qualifying research and development expenditures. link

Alberta Innovates expands partnership with NSERC to benefit Alberta-based small businesses through the Campus Alberta Small Business Engagement (CASBE) program. Learn more: link

Business Improvement Area Grants provide a matching reimbursement to commercial buildings and businesses renovations and constructions. Learn more: link

4. Environment/CleanTech

$182 million to increase energy efficiency and address climate change through the Energy Efficient Buildings Program. Deadline: December 22, 2020. https://www.nrcan.gc.ca/netzerobuildings

5. Export

Canada and Israel have just launched a 2020 Call for Proposals through the Canadian International Innovation Program (CIIP). Deadline: January 21, 2021. link

CanExport Innovation is currently accepting new applications covering up to 75% of costs to pursue and sign collaborative R&D agreements with international partners and investors. Deadline: Ongoing. link

6. Indigenous

The First Nations Development Fund Grant Program supports First Nation’s band councils in their efforts to improve socio-economic conditions in their communities. Next application deadline: February 1, 2020. link

Aboriginal Business and Entrepreneurship Development (ABED) works with Aboriginal entrepreneurs, communities, and organizations to achieve their business goals by providing a range of services and support that promote the growth of a strong Aboriginal business sector. Deadline: Ongoing. link

7. Municipalities

Municipal Asset Management Program offers funding, training, and resources to help you strengthen your asset management practices. The second application period will begin on January 19, 2021. link

Fund your municipality’s bold environmental projects through the Pilot project: Signature initiative. Deadline: Ongoing. link

The Green Municipal Fund’s (GMF) Sustainable Affordable Housing fund supports measures to install physical infrastructure, to create new housing units that are designed to achieve net-zero-ready building energy performance. Deadline: Ongoing. link

8. Non-Profit

Project Accelerator grants are designed to support individuals and organizations undertaking small scale heritage projects that tell Edmonton stories in unique or innovative ways. Deadlines: February 5, 2021; June 4, 2021. link

The Catherine Donnelly Foundation has been established to provide a long-term way to serve specific community needs anywhere in Canada. Deadline: February 2021. link

9. Post Secondary | Varies

The RISE-Globalink Research Internship (RISE-GRI) offers undergraduate students at Canadian universities the opportunity to participate in a research project supervised by a doctoral student at a German university or institution. Deadline: December 15, 2020. link

The John R. Evans Leaders Fund enables a select number of an institution’s excellent researchers to undertake leading-edge research by providing them with the foundational research infrastructure required to be or become leaders in their field. Deadline: February 15, June 15, October 15. link

Mitacs Canadian Science Policy Fellowship is now open. The program places PhD holders in government host offices for a 12-month immersion into the policy-making process. Learn more: link

10. Technology | Varies

Apply now to test your technologies at one of the leading collaborative facilities for applied innovation in the ocean sector through the Corrosion detection in ships (CDIS) – Sandbox program. Deadline: December 15, 2020. link

The Research Infrastructure stream coordinates with the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) Innovation Fund to invest in transformative research infrastructure projects that will secure and strengthen Alberta’s competitive position in research and technology development. Deadline: January 27, 2020. link

Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada is seeking to develop new solutions to extend the range of wireless terrestrial backhaul links to reduce backbone infrastructure costs through the Ultra-Long-Range Wireless Backhaul. Deadline: December 16, 2020. link

In collaboration between NAIT, the University of Alberta, ATCO, Siemens Canada, and Alberta Economic Development, Trade and Tourism launched the Distributed Energy Management Initiative (DEMI) Project Seed Funding (PSF) program for SMEs grid innovation and energy management technology projects. Application is on an ongoing basis starting February 10, 2020. link

Business Scale-up and Productivity offers interest-free repayable funding to incorporated businesses. The next intake period will take place between January 15 and February 16, 2021. link
