Description

The Canada Games component of the Hosting Program provides funding to organizations that are duly incorporated for the staging of the Games (known as Host Societies or Organizing Committees).

The country’s largest domestic multisport event, the Canada Games are held at two-year intervals, alternating between winter and summer. We collaborate with the host municipal or regional and provincial/territorial governments to financially support each edition of the Games.

Eligible Applicants

Eligible recipients are organizations that are incorporated as non-profit corporations under federal or provincial/territorial law and created specifically to organize the Canada Games.

Eligibility for funding is based on a federal-provincial/territorial hosting rotation and a bid process, typically run by the Canada Games Council or the host provincial/territorial government. The level of federal funding is based on a federal-provincial/territorial framework.

In addition, through an agreement with provincial/territorial governments, we provide funding for the travel costs of participants in the Canada Games, except those of the host province/territory. This funding from the Hosting Program is provided to the Canada Games Council, which manages Canada Games participant travel.

Eligible Expenses

We provide funding for project-related expenses, including the operating and capital expenses of delivering a hosting project, as well as those expenses identified in the legacy plan, as follows:

  • Operating expenses
These are the expenses related to the staging of the Canada Games. Examples include: office rental; salaries; ceremonies; volunteer uniforms; pageantry, insurance; translation; equipment purchase; officials honoraria; doping control; medical services; training of volunteers; and the engagement of official language minority communities for the planning and delivery of the Canada Games.
  • Capital expenses
These are expenses related to the construction or improvement of permanent structures, for the purpose of hosting Canada Games sport events. Examples include: building or upgrades to an existing venue structure to ensure that sport requirements are met; ensure accessibility and sustainability requirements are met; increase in spectator capacity; and enhanced lighting or air quality control.

Deadline Date

Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.
