EDGE UP 2.0 is providing training for 320 professionals displaced from the structural change in the oil and gas sector for in demand jobs in Calgary’s digital economy. In 2021-2022, students were trained in data analytics, full stack software development, IT project management, product management with a specialization in digital marketing, cyber security, AWS cloud computing, and IT network management. Students for the Winter 2022-2023 intake will receive tech training in Data Analytics with Clean Technology Foundations. EDGE UP (Energy to Digital Growth Education and Upskilling Project) is a multi-stakeholder program launched in Calgary in 2019 to test new approaches to skills development for workers to re-engage with technology jobs being created in all sectors of Calgary’s economy.

Eligible Applicants

EDGE UP partners ensure students have the training and skills to jump in and perform while you, the employer, are supported in the process so that EDGE UP projects and work-terms benefit both your team and the student.

Eligible Expenses

  • Level UP Capstone Projects by Riipen – Employers can propose short-term projects for one or more EDGE UP participants to utilize their tech skills through relevant work experiences. Each student may receive up to $1,400 after they complete your project of under 80 hours of work funded through Level UP, an innovative work-integrated learning  program powered by Riipen and sponsored by the Government of Canada.
  • WIL Digital Subsidy for Employers by Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC) – ICTC’s WIL Digital program helps companies grow and expand their impact by providing employers with the EDGE UP 2.0 program, wage subsidy, onboarding support, and a meaningful WIL experience for both employers and students. The wage subsidy is at 50% of the participant’s salary up to $5,000, or 70% up to $7,000 for underrepresented students, for a three-month work term. ICTC provides one-on-one support to make the application process as simplified as possible for employers providing work integrated learning for local talent.
  • Speaking, Networking and Workshops – We welcome employer participation as subject matter experts in the tech and innovation ecosystem in Calgary through:
    • participation in the EDGE UP Tech Talks speaker series,
    • in mock interview scenarios,
    • sharing expertise focusing on working in the world of tech,
    • program design consultations, and/or
    • hiring our graduates
