Description

The Indigenous Habitat Participation Program provides grant funding to Indigenous Nations, Indigenous communities and Indigenous organizations who need financial support to participate in consultation activities.

Eligible Applicants

You may be eligible for the Indigenous Habitat Participation Program grant funding if you:

  • are an Indigenous group with potential or established Aboriginal or treaty rights, including:
    • Indigenous governments
    • Indigenous communities, bands and settlements
    • district councils, chiefs’ councils and tribal councils
    • bodies or entities established by rights-holding communities to represent them
  • might be adversely affected by a Fisheries Act or Species at Risk Act regulatory review decision
  • have received a notification for consultation from Fisheries and Oceans Canada

Eligible Expenses

The general categories of eligible expenses under the Indigenous Habitat Participation Program – Grant Program include:

  • salaries and wages, including employer mandatory benefits
  • professional technical and specialized services
  • software and computer equipment
  • printing
  • telecommunications, communications/network, data communications, or image/video communications services
  • postage, parcel post, or courier services
  • conferences, workshops and meetings
  • travel expenses (including travel kilometers/flights, meals, incidentals and accommodation)
  • rental of office space, room and/or facilities
  • honoraria for Elders and/or Indigenous Knowledge Holders;
  • costs for ceremonial offerings
  • administrative overhead up to 15% of eligible costs of total expenses
